Trae tries rolling dice on MSG again and the coaches will be rushing the court.

I’ve been ready to shitcan Leon for nearly a year.

Randle grudge runs strong within you young Skywalker!

Kemba/EF. Strike one.
iHart. Foul ball.
Mikal. Strike two.
Randle. Strike three.
Thibs. Strike four.

Four strikes, you're out!

Let see if karma bites Leon in his disloyal ass next year. He's got nowhere left to hide.

martin @ 6/4/2025 7:31 AM
Near end of this interview, Ian thinks it will NOT by Johnnie Bryant. Ian usually is spot on.

martin @ 6/4/2025 7:35 AM
Somehow appropriate

Wow, I mean if you going to go full bonkers at least get the best of the best and one that does have some head coach experience and won more than just one chip. Also a statue in front of the arena!

"Mar-Bu-Rei"

Then give Meta the assistant role!

Love that you are still upset about the Randle trade, I had survivors guilt all season.

I can't tell if that's real or not. Funny joke either way.

I hear you but then I'm also thinking about him being WAY more excited than the rest of the OAKAAK crowd at MSG this postseason.

Interesting that he was so direct on that. Might imply something happened when he left that has closed the door for him on here?

Hmmmm

This account said they had intel Thibs was gonna be fired and he got fired the next day. Apparently knows someone in the Dolan family. I thought he was talking nonsense but he nailed it.

The socials and podcasters are very close to getting more intel across the board than the beat writers who haven’t broke anything substantial in years.

martin @ 6/4/2025 8:09 AM
Yeah, I don't care for the stuff that comes out of this account but they obviously know someone.

And I kinda look at it differently regarding the intel. Knicks seem to give early info to Ian, who communicates it very very carefully.

Leon is a closed loop and the beat guys have to respect him in that, the others really don't, for better or worse.

Can't be mad at Leon for iHart because he was TOO successful and outplayed what we could pay him.
He as a journeyman center when he got here and really in season two did he really thrive when Mitch went down.
He was perfect in the Thibian way.
Jury is still out on Mikal as his play was part of season long issues.
DDV might have had that one season here. His prior career and with Minny are not the same as the he did here.

All this and we made good to ECF's. Not saying I disagree with Thibs removal as we are learning more in the aftermath. A lot changed this past season. Went from over achieving to under.

Pundits seem to imply Wright is happy not coaching. I don't see how knicks can do a through search if Suns are set to hire Bryant this week. He can't turn down the gig without a promise.

Mike Brown? Taylor Jenkins? Billy Donovan? Names not often mentioned im just throwing out. Good experienced coaches.
Sam Cassell due? Darren Erman the famous snitch from his GSW gig has been working ever since and a good rep.
Associate head coach Rick Brunson? Never a head coach but neither has Johnny Bryant. I guess Greg Popovich and Hubie Brown are not in the mix?. Udoka and Kidd actually want to leave?
Guys with Chips know what it takes but the players not the same. Malone can't bring Jokic nor make Kat into him. Fans like the new fresh assistant dudes as untapped intrigue but that really has to click. Johnny Bryant did not coach Mikal or KAT.
I have more questions then answers.

Media has to come up with names cuz we want to know!

EwingsGlass @ 6/4/2025 8:26 AM
I think anyone saying not Hurley should watch this. It’s an X’s and Os. But tell me 1) You don’t see what the Pacers used to rip us. 2) That Brunson and KAT wouldn’t look better than these guys. It’s essentially perfect for us AND continues to evolve over time. I think Hurley would b lent risk of losing guys like KAT due to temperament, but you’d be bringing in an efficient Xs and Os scholar.

Every player would get involved. It’s not just spreading concepts, it’s putting each player in the best position to be their best.

gradyandrew @ 6/4/2025 8:38 AM
Here's the thing with Leon, his guys always get paid. Even the guys who fell off a cliff, like Kemba, Fournier, and Noel, still got paid a season or two more n essentially dead money relative to their contract value.

Thibs is too hands on for a front office position. A new coach could never deal with Thibs constant advice. So Leon did the next best thing, got the guy a golden parachute. I hope Thibs ends up in a college program (Let's go Orange?) where he can do what he does best- get guys to play defense and play hard.

Don’t think it’s Rose alone.
JB is the voice of the team right now.
Has been for a couple of years. With his father as a key ally on the staff.
You get Randle out because he takes too many shots and takes up JB’s middle.
You replace him with someone that clears up where JB likes to operate.
You get rid of the coach that for two years could not figure out how to counter Indiana’s pressure/double teaming of JB. Then benches him for KAT led offense.
They get Wright and it will be basically Rick and Jalen coaching.

What else can it be?!
Stats?
Randle had stats close to KAT made less. Both bonehead meter equal.
Thibs had the best stat in 25 years?!
Im sticking to my conspiracy!
Never watch another Knick game.

Unless they get Van Gundy or trade Brunson or KAT/Bridges for the Greek or re-sign Randle!m

Nalod @ 6/4/2025 8:44 AM
Curious what the Brunson family is thinking after the Thibian deletion? Did Rick shank Thibs? Was Jalen part of the mutiny? Im guessing on a professional level its a basketball decision first and foremost. If Jalen sensed Mikal was not going to be happy and not extend which enacts a trade, and Kat continues to not get easy buckets and get frustrated the dream would not work. Thibs has his contract. Leon took care of him.
I'd also guess from what we have read this is not a snap decision based on the last few weeks. Its based on season long fundamentals and seen that its not about players executing the coaches vision nor confident going forward it can come together.

Jalen good with what went down? I'd have to think so.

martin @ 6/4/2025 8:58 AM
Yeah, no public reaction from Jalen yet? Should be interesting

Berman really is a little weasel -- just picture him and his huge head in kindergarten ratting out his classmates for cutting in lunch line.

That they don’t have a guy locked up worries me tremendously that Dolan drove this decision

Whatever you think of Thibs, it’s crazy to think you fire him without someone essentially agreed to, under our circumstances where you have the talent and want finals next year (ie not a rebuild)

I'm worried that they fired Thibs at all, but not that they haven't announced a replacement less than 24 hours later. Would be dirty if they had already, like taking your girlfriend to a restaurant to break up with her and walking out with the waitress.

The talking heads out there suggesting Knicks have a short list of 2-3 guys with mutual interest, but will still go through the motions of a full search. The draft is 6/25. Expect it'll be announced before then.

Unless the exit interviews with the players were just a complete disaster. Seems like his stubborn nature got the best of him when it comes to the bench and the starting lineup. When approached by the FO mid playoffs, he rebuked them, and I'm sure he wasn't nice about it. Then out of desperation he finally heeds their advice when it's too late. Then the exit interviews .... sounds like it all just reached a boiling point between coach and FO and they were no longer simpatico.

I feel extremely confident this was not a Dolan override. I think Dolan would have preferred to pay him 30M to actually coach the team. He's completely stayed out of Leon's way with great results, doubt he decided to start butting in when we are on the precipice of a legit title team.
