Got an UFA in Brunson and turned him into a 1A closer while also extending him well under market value. Traded for OG, despite lawsuits and poor trade history with Toronto. Swung an impossible deal with Brooklyn to get Mikal. Still had enough to trade for KAT.

And now the likes of Durant and Giannis are fluidly being thrown into chatter as Knicks trade candidates.

Their open coaching position is probably THE most desirable get if you are a candidate.

Knicks were 3 minutes of FUBAR away from pushing the ECF to 7 games.

And Dadiet will probably show signs of Durant lite this coming season. OK maybe not but I'm just seeing if everyone reads this far down in a post.

Wild stuff.

Great points.

Pacome Da-rant-diet

Homerism. I don't see it. Kid looks soft/low motor.

He does look all those - I agree but he can shoot, cut and he has size. I was joking about Durant Lite myself - Martin also dreaming.

Gues Mazzipla is next. Got out coached by Thibs.
Then Atkinson. Got out coached by Carlisle.
Adelman, Finch as well?

These media talking points make me laugh.

WE GOT OUTPLAYED!

We going to ignore how injured the Cavs were vs the Pacers? Remember if you say yes then we can't use that same excuse for last years playoffs.

Imagine taking Brunson, the Trainer and now Kidd...can we just chalk this up as a penalty for tanking that pick we should have gotten from them?

Hell yeah forgot about the tanking thing, they owe us

Derrick F***ing Lively would look so nice here

remember we hardly ever throw lobs so we have to account for that with his offensive production being lower with us.

True. But that was exactly my point. Saying a coach got out coached because he lost a series is ignoring other pertinent facts. I mentioned how bad our guys shot the three and had over 15 TOs a game. How each position got outplayed.

As for Cavs excuses, I am sure in the NY media that would not matter. I Remember a certain Julius Randle having a cracked ankle and getting buried for bad playoffs. But of course that did not matter in NY?

Point was. Some are saying he got out coached. Many coaches were in the playoffs. They still have a job.

If you trade coach before the draft on June 25 that other team needs a coach in place to. I don’t believe the Kidd rumors it just lies to me. I think it’s going be Johnny byrant .

One reason in favor is Bryant is that he was up for Phoenix and it went to Ott.

Next is that taking FROM Cleveland helps us in a way few other coach hirings can - it deprives Bryant.

Betting odds favor Bryant.

2026 is a year we still have our draft pick so a little growing pains wouldn’t be devastating.

The crush of emotional fans are far more inaccurate than media. many have indelible opinions that are simply unable to change no matter what the facts. Exibit PhilC who seems impervious to knowledge when presented with facts.

As for Kidd and "Rumors"? I'd label them more speculation than anything. Its what the machine cooks. Windhorst had his minions lay them out as one of them follows the Mavs. and he was very careful to say there was no basis or reports of interest and it was just about relationships. I respect that a lot. Many here are not careful and like to speak as if they "in the know" or read "reports".

Its been just two days and until Mavs say they won't grant permission I suppose that one stays alive. We have not read of any interviews or any lined up have we?

Windy and co. really. had some honest takes and thought few are better than x's and 0's than Thibs but also saw the chemistry issues for some time and understood. But they very respectful to Thibs and think Leon needs to nail this next hire. Hard to argue that.

Personally I liked Thibs, respected the job he did, was also frustrated by the team and as a fan rooted for him to fix it. Leon thought otherwise and he might have been treated fair as some media types are crying about, its the freaking job and its a cold process. That he was given 10mil a year and its guaranteed for three years is how he was respected with that extension last year. Absent of blame iHart leaving caused a need for Kat and Thibs is just not the coach for this roster as constructed. Kat put down 24 and 13 a night avg with All NBA cred. We went to Conf. finals. FO things Thibs not the guy to take them further. That remains to be seen but I get it.

Did someone really inquire the status of Mike Miller? he was with the Wizards as an assistant until last season! Would that be something!

The mavericks are different now. Miriam Adelson is the owner not Mark Cuban she does not have the sense of urgency to win that Cuban had.

Looks bad either way I rather have a coach before the draft and free agency. Dallas is going to draft cooper flagg you would like to have a coach for your number 1 draft pick and if you don’t have a coach looks really bad in that type of situation. Dallas can’t have any more stupid trades, stupid picks for quite a while they got a get out jail free card with cooper flagg. Nico Harrison is an idiot and having no coach before the draft looks more stupid on him. Imagine if Dallas doesn’t draft cooper flagg they will be riots on the streets and Nico Harrison will be witness protection program.

One more angle to consider for Kidd

Would you want to coach kyrie? Talented but kooky

Just can’t see the Knicks handing the keys to an untested entity like an assistant under present circumstances.

They need a coach who is respected enough that the team is willing to run through walls for him (thibs checked that box) and smart and innovative enough to know ways around the wall too (thibs had issues)

EwingsGlass @ 6/6/2025 7:46 AM
Is it possible that instead of Kidd the Knicks really want Sean Sweeney? Or to pair Bryant with Sweeney?
DLeethal @ 6/6/2025 8:08 AM
Every day that passes without any new coach mentioned or interview scheduled tells me they are solely focused on getting Kidd out of his contract with the Mavs.

Might serve your well to understand who Patrick Dumont is, his back ground, and that he is the Mav's "governor" representing the team in league matters and essentially running the team. Dr. Miriam Adelson is well educated in her own right a formidable intelligent women. Her and Sheldon were quite conservative politically and helped Trump a lot. Given the vast holdings of the empire and her role in many places I doubt she is super involved day to day with Mav's. I'd say Dumont is going to weigh in. Given the rate of change of the Mav's recently its entirely possible they are considering what the near and long view is with its roster, picks, salary, Kyrie projected return and their team option on him. Logically if Kyrie can return to form late next season and Flagg is as projected (even if his best years are still a few away) then Kidd might want to stay. Or mav's simply do't allow him to talk to knicks. He has a contract. If the move on from Kyrie and perhaps consider moving AD for pieces that might be a different story and they might think to move from Kidd as well.

Don't speak for Miriam. It looks silly to think you have intimate knowledge.
Perhaps if you included they are in a political dog fight to gain control of property near AT&T stadium to develop a new arena and other amenities like a casino then think of how they might accomplish that? Rebuild with Flagg or short term with Kyrie/AD and build excitement so fans will support that. Its one piece of a big project and ambition.

I mean he coached 2 uber talented offensive players who don't play D --- sounds familiar with our situation.

I've posted earlier --- whether with Kyrie/Luka or without Dallas style of play and roster make-up has been fun to watch under Kidd.

VDesai @ 6/6/2025 11:19 AM

This is a long one, but a really good watch from the 2 best X's and O's Knicks analysts out there around the coaching change. Block off some time on your commute and give it a listen!

Do we think that Kidd is an improvement over Thibs? I ask because I’m not sure…
SergioNYK @ 6/6/2025 12:12 PM
I think I'm coming around to Kidd. He checks a lot of boxes

1. Coached Brunson and has a great relationship with him which is the most important! If you're star player doesn't vibe with you, it won't work
2. Coached Dallas to the Finals
3. Hall of Famer and Champion comes with a respected voice which players will respect
4. Great personality which is key since Leon doesn't talk
5. Played here for a year so he knows the organization and also played for years in NJ so he knows the area and can handle the media, fans and expectations

He is the only candidate available who brings all these things.

Kind of funny that they are very similar in terms of philosophy. I heard the biggest complaints from Dallas fans was that Kidd doesn't use his bench, doesn't utilize the young players much and runs a heavy Iso offense.
