Knicks · OMG! Thibs fired! (page 35)

https://www.theringer.com/2019/11/14/nba...Something else to take away from this article:
-Very strong relationship with DDV during his time as an assistant with the Bucks.
-This point about organizational alighnment and the coincidental usage of a quote from Gersson Rosas about Karl Anthony Towns struck a chord:The new buzzword around NBA front offices is “alignment,” meaning everyone in the organization, from ownership to the front office, medical department, analytical staff, and the head coach, is on the same page. When I asked new Wolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas about why he took the job in Minnesota, he mentioned the opportunity for organizational alignment in the same breath as the ability to chart the path for Karl-Anthony Towns. In other words, Rosas wanted a coach who would be willing to work with him in putting Towns in the type of offense that he envisioned.
“[Jenkins] has the overall knowledge of everything that it takes to be a head coach. It always starts with a high basketball acumen [...] but you also need an understanding of what’s happening in the [NBA] landscape,” Budenholzer said. “How are you building culture, how are you building your team, can you work with a front office, can you collaborate—things like that. [That’s the] next step of being a head coach. There’s just a lot more that comes with it.”
Good catch on that 1st paragraph and could see Gershon (as an example) having some frustrations if Thibs was refusing to try some things they may have wanted to see in terms of better roster/play cohesion and overall top to bottom alignment between players, staff, management.

I’m more surprised about our (fans) lack of patience and logic. Was it realistic and correct to expect us to have a coach already lined up and ready to be signed in a little more than a week after firing our very good previous coach who had just taken us to the ECF?
The Knicks, because of reasons that didn’t start this season but surely got to the point of no return, decided to fire Thibs. They decided things had to change. Aren’t they allowed to do that? Then they start a process of asking for INTERVIEWS! This isn’t NY deciding they want Kidd and being denied, then wanting Udoka and also being denied. This is a team doing their due diligence and getting as many possible interviews as they can. And we get mad at that and think there isn’t a plan?
I think the Knicks know what they want, but want to make sure they do their research on a coach that will have lots of pressure and expectations.I think they are doing things the right way. Why is everyone acting like this is the Turmoil Knicks?
SergioNYK wrote:Both Begley and Hahn have killed the Johnny Bryant idea due to his inexperience so I guess that leaves Brown, Bud, Malone, Jenkins, Woodson and Walton who have been rumored. Let me know if I've forgotten anyone but out of these coaches, how would you rank them? I have it like this ...1. Malone
2. Bud
3. Brown
4. Jenkins
5. Woodson
When all said and done I think it’s Malone. He already has ties to the Knicks. He will be willing to work with Rick Brunson and he has already won a championship and did it recently.

They are just listening to the Knicks haters on espn who couldn’t wait to bash the Knicks. Other teams on the verge of getting to the championship round have done something similar most famous being the Red Sox firing Grady Little and they won the world series the following season. The Knicks are pretty much the Boston Red Sox of basketball.

100%
The Knicks just got to the ECF's. They were legit. They are a legit top 5 teams in the league and all of their main guys are 30 and under. This next step of finding the new coach should be treated as very important and shouldn't be rushed. There was zero chance they would have started this process during the playoffs, the actual talking to outside candidates part.
Their plan is pretty straight forward and just the same as it should and would be for every other team in the league: do you due diligence and meet people. This is where Brock gains knowledge about the playing field. It should be drawn out.
This is exactly as it should be played out. Just like the draft. Even if you only have a top 10 pick, you still meet every other player in the draft and do your homework. Same thing here.
For those of you that think there is no plan, what are you exactly expecting the Knicks to do that you have in mind? And why are you thinking the Knicks need to telegraph it exactly to you?

I hope whoever they land on is content knowing they were probably Leon’s 4th, 5th, 10th, or maybe 15th choice.

What makes you think he is asking people for interviews in order of his favorites? lol
Clearly he's trying to create a list of candidates, and after creating that list will line up interviews. He's ruling guys out along the way, which makes logical sense to do so with the long shot candidates who are currently employed first.

ESPN and other outlets know how to press fans buttons. Its not hate, its how things are.
Hate the haters results in clicks. Same for all media regarding many subjects.
What is one to conclude? Media outlets feed on ignorance and lazy consumers of their product and need to draw them in and keep them engaged.
What to do then? Take it all in and draw ones own conclusions than parrot others.
Why fault the process when knicks have no current competition for any coach?
IM looking at Mike Browns complete resume as coach and assistant coach and he has sat on the bench of some impressive runs.
As head coach being fired 31 games into a season where no successor was able to do better with that roster and meddling owner.
Knicks gave respect to players perhaps by trying to interview coaches with other teams. How does Kat feel about Finch? Brunson about Kidd? How do players respect for Quinn? They tried. Maybe it showed they had their backs. Just a guess. Does it make them look stupid? Only if media says so?
Malone? He has ties to Knicks and CAA. He has a chip. No doubt a qualified coach. But does he fit into the current and forward thinking of were FO wants to go? Since I don’t know how the interview process goes how can a fan begin to quantify this fit other than he has a recent chip? Thats his and nuggs, not ours if we hire him. Nuggs had salary issues causing lack of depth and malone if I read right was not using his bench and playing yoot as FO wanted. MPjr has not grown into his contract as hoped. Murray injuries at his salary has been an issue. Its not all on Malone for his dismissal but not a good look they did it before playoffs and the team responded quite well.
Players are not going to publicy diss Thibs but compliment him for taking them to a higher level then they were before. Kat too had a great season but its not like behind closed doors they saved his job.
Bottom line is not what media click bait outlets thing in June but how it gets sorted by into next season.
One can hate the haters but are you not entertained?

Firing Thibs with zero backup plan is wild and a turning into a terrible look
Philc1 wrote:Ever wonder why Thibs and neither of the Van Gundy bros have never won a championship as a head coach? They are all very limited at calling offense. Thibs did a great job here but our offense had zero creativity literally Thibs idea of ball movement when he wasn’t calling ISO was players dribbling behind the 3 point line then someone running to the dribbling player to do an exchange not even a pass.
Overly simplistic take that does not factor so many variables.
JVG did not win finals because SAS were simply much better team.

Because they had an offense.

Ironically in the player exit interviews where numerous players apparently took shots at Thibs - I could see those comments being...
"I just can't believe Thibs kept playing Josh all those minutes all night long - all season long."

I said this after game 1 and saying it again....
Pacers absolutely look like they belong on the floor with OKC and while OKC ran roughshod over most teams this year the Pacers have stood toe-toe with them on both sides of the court. Really impressed with Pacers thus far and how much their younger guys like Nembhart, Nesmith, Mathurin and yes Hali have played.
Pacers ability to get up floor quickly, continue to move the ball and their own bodies has negated a great OKC strength where they can overload the floor against great iso players -- the movement, the quickness of the offense and Hali's ability to create passing angles have really made OKC look normal thus far.
Another huge edge for Indy has been that Turner (and Pascal to a degree) have seemed to totally negate I-Hart --- similar to how I-Hart shrunk as playoffs progressed with Knicks last year.

Maybe we trade Josh... then we wont have to suffer through all these national televised announcers talking about what a winning player he is.
