Do hope Yabusele is the answer. I see him backing up KAT at the 4.
Don’t know much about his defense?
Coffey has been rumored and can hit a three and seems to be a plus on the defensive side.
I hope so
Although I did enjoy watching Clarkson from afar, I don't feel he's the answer as the second ball handler on the team. I've always saw him as point-scorer more than a pass first PG/game manager. Part of me would have liked to have seen the Knicks make a harder run at Smart but I know money and promise of playing time was a road block.
I don't know crap about Yabusele but I notice the fan base is excited about it. To me, he's signing only makes sense if he's being considered to be the starting 4. I always felt this team would be at its max potential with OG at the 3 and Mikal at the 2 and Hart coming off the bench.

They probably think they can rehabilitate him plus he can play PF with Towns at C

I would be intrigued with Yabusele at the 4 in the starting lineup. We would have a true 5 out on offense with size at all position except PG. The defense would hurt a little but Gershon is not afraid of contact and is trying. Rebounding would be a strength again as well. No more bigs hiding on hart and the wing on KAT.
Bridges and OG on the wings will have a lot of work but this is their natural positions. Kat would have to buy in on the defensive end though. The offense could be a juggernaut.

Really good Ball handler, pick setter, defender. But unfortunately Injury prone, mental.
Barcelona option update. Welcome to a 2-way contract and Westchester

Would agree with you. Despite the obvious talent, how does one consider someone with past mental toughness issues when looking to compete for a chip. Which requires the highest level of mental strength.
Brunson has proven his meddle in the heat of big games. High School, College, and shows up as good as most these days.
One might say KAT has not demonstrated it consistantly but looked good vs. Denver before traded. They did not make the Finals as he was manhanded by Dallas.
Simmons on a make good type contract has an opportunity to turn his narrative around.
But lets be real, he will be a role player at best until he has shown proficiency. His back? Likely to not give us more than 50 games? Crunch time? He will be tested and left wide open. Every man has his moment to shine. Do we even put him in that position? Josh had knee issues this past offseasn and his outside shot inneffective. If Simmons can supplant Josh and keep him healthy it could prove valuable.
Simmons past does not exactly warrant confidence but lower the bar with his lower salary. The kid really has little to lose at this point. His reputation is shit. Hopefully his wealth is intact and he can play without the burdon of "making it" and with a good theropist or buddist teaching can let go of the ego and play for the moment. Easy to type than actually accomplish.
Or we bring back Shamet who was a good solidier for us and works his ass off! LOL
Westbrook is in the convo at some level.

For his very small role, it may not be that bad.
Shamet did what was asked and I am surprised the Knicks would prefer Simmons who has not shown the ability to stay healthy, perform under pressure and/or hit from outside in the past 3 years. Can't see how even if he is deemed healthy that would be putting him in the right/best situation under the NY lights and pressure. I sure hope Shamet doesn't get scooped up as he didn't complain and most importantly he can shoot and doesn't hold the ball. We need like 3-4 of those type players so they can play next to Brunson...

Simmons is more cover for the type of defense OG provides and he brings point guard ball handling and passing off the bench. For a veteran minimum he does a lot of things for a team provided he actually plays and wants to play. He is as much mental as physical, but I can see why buying low on a piece like him with a championship type roster is an attractive idea.

yup - imagine you need a stop, you can go with a lineup of McBride, Bridges, OG, Simmons, Mitch
I'd assume Knicks due dilligence would be fairly complete if Simmons is to be considered.
Nothing is perfect but if the kid needs a season to rehab a reputation it might be mutually beneficial.
Sometimes it works, sometimes a former allstar drifts into the abyss for good.
His medical file might tell a big story as to what happens next. We'll never know.

Why does Vin Baker come to mind?

We need him to be good. I don’t like our C depth.

You day drinking?
Vin captured Dolans soft spot as a fellow alcoholic and help his rehab. Do you suspect Simmons has substance abuse issues?
No doubt former allstars with issues come with risks but we talking low cost with Simmons.
I would not have an expectation Simmons returns to his former high level but at 6-10 and can run the PT for say 15 minutes a night and still has his defensive chops could make a contribution.

I don't particularly expect Simmons to have substance abuse issues. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Maybe he has other issues. But these "reclamation" projects rarely bear fruit.

For sure! My take is the kid was fragile and entitled, then he got caught in the "Kardashian succubus" and lost his soul. Remember Kris Humpphries? Lamar Odom, and Tristin Thompson? Only one to go basically unscathed was Booker who was with Kendal Jenner.
ON anogther note, most blog trade proposals (not rumor) are crap. This one is interesting at least:
https://empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-k...
Can't say its a complete strategy nor addresses Utah's needs or what they would do with Mitch given their aspirations and timeline. I put little probabilty on this but its August and I suspect time for FO's to go on vacations so little to chew on.
I think most of us agreed with Shumps assessment even last year but at the same time why Thibs would be resistant to the logic?
The notion of "Favoritism" to the Brunsons like some rec league dad playing his sun is not logical at this level.
That Mikal pushed back on Thibs for reasons not specific is also interesting.
Would Thibs been able to adapt? Had he rubbed Mikal the wrong way? Is Jalen on board with this also?
That Thibs who is "stubborn" but he also has changed some. But not enough?
I think Indy showed that defense first is not the only way to win and Thibs roster was not as it had been.
We all saw how hard the offense was last year. I called it a "knife fight" during the playoffs. So many lead swings it was crazy.
Perhaps our players who take discounts see a bigger picture where the money/ego can be shared and all succeed? Its a nice thought.
