Knicks · Did we address all issues? (page 1)
For me, main issues with last years squad were:
1. Having a true PF.
Feel this has yet to be addressed. Josh did a great job filling in and played extremely well all year. But as I feared, once we were up against top level teams, the lack of size and offense at the 4 hurt us. Also feel that Josh would have greatly helped our bench play.
So for me, it’s a no. Unless Brown does what I felt should have been automatic, which was put KAT at the 4 and Mitch in the starting lineup. Greatly improving our defense. Maybe Yabusele earns consideration?
2. Bench play.
Think if we add a true backup PG, we will have a much better bench. Adding a vet like Clarkson who can score at a high level was a plus. Yabusele was also a positive addition. Maybe one of the youngins steps up and earns some meaningful minutes? Would like Shamet back but like Insaid, a true PG would be ideal.
Some may also say that Thibs was an issue. Those who felt that way will have a chance to be proven right or wrong. I see much of the same but hoping for more ball movement and less minutes for our starters.
Can’t wait to the start of pre season and hoping that we can improve from last years performance . Which was real nice!

All things being the same one can surmise that OG is the PF for this team. As needed Kat can slide to the PF as needed with Mitch inserted. Yabu to me might be more of a PF than back up center but he can fill both roles when needed. If Huk can step up he can also be of great value.
Of course there is Mitch with his fragile state with an expriing contract. Im not lost that Deuce with Clarkson on the second unit cold be compelling to some degree.
The contract of Mikal could be an issue if not addressed sooner than later. Nothing but speculation but I can't fathom any traction about the "Waiting for Giannis" thing. His contract at 54mm next year is quite a load to take on unless Kat is the primary contract. Mikal at 28mm don't get you close. Add Mitch, you still at 41mm. But, you do OG/Mitch you do.
Thats good starphuchg fodder talk. Pairing Kat, Giannis and Jalen is quite compelling. Unlikley and Im not considering Bucks return as there is no allsgtar returning to them nor a trove of picks that can be added. No predicition nor am I saying we should do this. Just addressing a far out suggestion read a blog post. Just what it could look like.
Did we address all the issues? We address many as we are deeper, our yoots a bit more seasones so there could be internal growth as well either from Beachamp, Kolek, or Dadiet as well. Mike Brown will no doubt have influence and hope its positive!

Mitch should and will start but we need depth at C. Looks like precious is leaving. Hopefully Huk steps and stays healthy ditto for James Nnaji. Maybe give Bol Bol a shot

Bol Bol still available? Not sure how someone that talented is still without a job.

Yabu can start at PF.
If mitch is in the game, Kat can slide over.
Huk can play with Kat also effectively.
Not saying its perfect by any stretch.
Interesting Horford has not signed with anyone. Was assumed he'd go to GSW earlier this month.
While not a timeline window thing, maybe he returns to Boston? I can't speak to his family situaition so that might be a factor? One can see why not uprooting them is attractive if he can contribute for another year. I doubt its a money thing.
Love to have him and its rumored his dominical roots makes him tight with KAT. Just saying. Is he CAA? LOL
that said, I would really love a pass first backup PG. I think Kolek will be that but I don't think he's ready. I want to Deuce to be free to focus on cooking

You like Brogdon?
Bench has subtracted Mitch/Precious, Payne, & Shamet from the rotation, have added Clarkson, Hart, & Yabu.
C: Mitch, Towns, Yabu, Huk
PF: Towns, Yabu, OG, Diawara
SF: OG, Hart, Mikal, Dadiet
SG: Mikal, Hart, Deuce, Clarkson
PG: Brunson, Clarkson, Deuce, Kolek

As it stands now I agree with much of your view. The rotation will be interesting as you have Hart backing both OG and Mikal. Deuce falls a bit on the depth chart?
Im not sold on Mitch starting as I am concerned with him finishing for two reasons that were exploited in the playoffs. His foul shooting issues and teams going small using them on KAT to defend which seemed to be effective. What still baffles me is earlier in the season before KAT hurt that finger he was playing a lot of high post and feeding cutters. The ball movement was better. When his outside shooting worsened perhaps did the finger and then later when Mitch was getting minutes the spacing was stagnant. Did teams let Kat have that outside space and backed off making the cuts harder to feed? I do appreciate Mitch's elite offensive rebounding and defense but it comes at a price.
I don't think your far off but on paper it almost seems as if there could be a trade here. Mitch and Deuce perhaps expendable but I can't put my finger who comes back in return?

Kinda forgot about this. Very strange.
Horford had been rumored to GSW and I wonder if they need to do some salary cap magic and resolve Kuminga before they sign someone like Horford.

As it stands Clarkson will probably get all the backup PG mins, Hart will probably get all the backup SF mins. Outside of that Clarkson, Hart, Deuce will be battling for those remaining wing mins.
Looks like they plan on starting Mitch. They will probably adapt based on needs throughout the game after that. Not automatic he finishes unless the game script is calling for it. Either way their will be flaws in the lineup if he starts or not. As if Towns starts at C then rim protection takes a hit, and he is prone to get in foul trouble with the added defensive responsibility as the anchor.
Mitch surrounded by 4 37%-40% 3pt shooters is probably the most effective lineup to utilize with Mitch. And making Mitch an offensive threat as a 8th/9th option is very tough for an opponent to deal with. Given he can produce 4-5 offensive rebounds in under 30mins.
Having 2 7thers and 2 wings with 7ft wingspans is also something that can create needed identity.

You could say that OG is the PF on defense but that ignores how teams put the worst guy on Hart when Knicks are on offense. And that Hart replaced Randle in the starting lineup.
Easiest move is to start Mitch. As mentioned.
Agree that Bridges will be an issues. Question is when?
Hoping we add another big and/or vet PG. (Lyles, Westbrook?). Think the latter wants more guaranteed playing time.
nycericanguy wrote:Yabu definitely addresses the PF issue, and Clarkson the extra ballhandler/scorer/creator. but we could definitely use an emergency wing 3/4. surprised Amir Coffey has gone unsigned
Do hope Yabusele is the answer. I see him backing up KAT at the 4.
Don’t know much about his defense?
Coffey has been rumored and can hit a three and seems to be a plus on the defensive side.
