Knicks · Shams does not have the aura of a WOJ Bomb but anything Giannis to NY will do, exploritory of course until next summer (page 2)
martin wrote:LivingLegend wrote:Don’t understand the exploratory of course until next year?Seems very plausible to me Greek could makes things go south for Bucks quick if he wants out.
Fact this came out right now makes me believe this was Greeks camp leaking the news.
Bucks wouldn’t want it out and it only stands to potentially disrupt Knicks if guys start looking over their shoulder.
We’ve been waiting for years for a guy to say I only want NY and it seems the Greek just did that. Throw in his comments the other day where Bucks owner said he & Greek had met but Greek followed that up and said I don’t recall any meeting/conversation.
This feels real and given fact we’ve already been given an exclusive Knicks only chance to toss trade scenarios around things could go quickly if Greek forces a bit more. Apparently he;s already moved his family out of Milwaukee (back to Greece) — could be he knows things could get testy short term.
We shall see I guess but if I’m an athlete with limited years in my body I wouldn’t want to wait extra years risking injury if I had the ability to force my way out now.
Giannis does not have leverage this year, meaning Bucks management can just turn to OKC Houston where those teams would have the rest of the season, the offseason, and the following season to arrange direct flights to Athens for him via private jet. Done and done for Bucks.
I don't think it's plausible that someone like Ginannis would purposely make it difficult for the Bucks. What would you expect him to do? Tank? I just dont see that in his personality and competitiveness.
I'm just saying it already seems to be heading the wrong way for Bucks.
Entire NBA has been monitoring Greek situation, now his camp (IMO) leaks this news NOW (why?). Just the other day Greek contradicts his owner regarding a supposed discussion the 2 had. Moving the family out seems like another clear signal he's getting ready to butt heads with Bucks.
It all depends on where Greek is mentally -- has he already been pushing privately for Bucks to move him? Is NY the only place he wants?
Would it be out of the question for Greek to come down injury that starts keeping him out of games? I don't know. I know there is all kinds of talk about character but many on here would swear by Carmelo and he made things very difficult on Nuggets.
Wishful thinking on my part - probably

It also gets FO's around the league to figure things out so they get the best deal.
Kincks won't be the only destination. Giannis has enough money to fly his family privately as can any owner in a manner perhaps consistant with CBA. California is further away but maybe he moves the family there for a while?
Giannis can also be able to a main draw in the new EuroNBA and perhaps take an ownership stake when retired. Predetermined price and he plays for a discount to benefit from his exposure. Think big fellas. Think outside the box.
The consipracy of lakers is not on Silver, but its Lebrons salary that comes off the books when he retires. Or.....he takes a pay and does the Play last 20 games and thru playoffs thing? Lakers are preparing.
Bucks should try to make a market for him as it benefits any return package.
Knicks? Its plausible but Giannis is not stupid knowing a deal can gut the team where it cannot win a chip. He can afford to risk letting his contract run out or use that leverage on Europe, knicks, or Lakers.
Mitch/OG salarywise gets you there. No doubt you need to add more like Deuce and some picks. But thats three starters. No, bucks will never get the best player but its about remaining respectable while they rebuild.
A core of Giannis, Kat, Brunson and Mikal is compelling as any. OG is very desired around the league and Mitch is elite at what he does well.
Im not saying we do it, but If Im leon Im trying to keep KAT over OG. Different price point and KAT will need an extentension. Do I want to keep KAT long term? Not sure about that either. Giannis also might not age well so I have to consider that too. He and Kat are very different skill sets. Kat could be a BroPez/Horford type and age well. Less to the rim drives perhaps but Bone up on some defense. he rebounds and shoots at an elte level. Giannis loses his freakness he might not be that valuable. Hey, it happend to Wilt, it can happen to anyone. Wilt was still a beast of a man but his mobility declined.

By leaving.
George Karl got COY the year after he left. They won 57 games.
Yes we won 54. It was a good trade for both teams. Its the next 5 years that Nuggs built off of.
Both Melo and Karl are in the HOF.
Giannis as a knick? Depends on the price and when executed.

I'd want to wait for the moment you could grab Turner in the same trade. Like KAT, HART, MITCH and all our remaining picks and swaps for Giannis and Turner.
Brunson
Bridges
OG
Giannis
Turner
Yes, please.
Bucks are not a lost cause. After all they have Jericho Simms!
As I indicated previously, my sense is the end of Giannis will be a process and one that about everyone saw comming the last few years. The Freak is a good dude and guards his persona well. Its perfectly logical that as a business decision both sides ease into it for many reasons.
Nalod almost always can't wrap my head around player trade value. That or I miss on public sentiment on them. Take Doncic for example to the lakers. While some think conspiracy others don't look down the road or the immeadiate effect of what Dallas was doing. In my opinion, it was a win now move for Dallas and thinking Luka would not hold up to build around. Lakers want a star to shine in the eventual Lebron retirement. The Clippers are not the Sterling run shit show. Lakers have competition.
Bucks have a nice fan base in a blue collar city. Moving Giannis to NY or LA would be a slap in the face to the fan. Getting a star in return is always preferable but not likely. The Dame thing? Good idea actually, but it failed to execute. I admire the effort. Giannis is paid $54mil and is responsible to his role. It seems they are working it thru to an eventual divorce but laying the groundwork for a smooth transition.

Another big piece of leverage; Knicks only have Brunson, OG and Bridges fully guaranteed beyond 2027, when Giannis can become a free agent. Knicks can simply sign him in 2 summers if it were to ever come down to that. Obviously it won’t but it’s a factor for leverage for sure.

OG would most definitely be involved in the deal. He can go to a third team for picks to route to the bucks. Let’s use the kings for example:
Something like:
KAT, all of our Knicks picks, and 2 distinct, unprotected picks from the kings along with the expiring salary (in a year) of LaVine to the bucks
Giannis, Turner and Kuzma to the Knicks
OG and Deuce to the kings
A 4th team to use for addition salary dump from the Knicks (Dadiet, kolek etc)
Knicks would be left with:
C Turner/ Robinson
PF Giannis/ Yabusele
SF Hart/ Kuzma
SG Bridges/ Clarkson
PG Brunson/ Brogdon
As a rotation. Something along those lines for 2026/2027

This is why I am hoping Giannis can scare the bucks into working directly with the Knicks, and deter other teams from offering their best. It could always become a Kawhi to Toronto situation, but likely these things end with the player getting to the team he wants. With this leak, the fact the Knicks were the only team involved is a great sign. Why would Giannis give the Bucks a list of teams when there’s a path to sign with his top choice in less than 2 years ?
Lets see, New coach: Check
Wife is in Athens: Check
Delayed to camp because of Covid symptoms: Check
Said its Human to change his mind: Check
The leak: Check
Giannis is a nice guy. Bucks are proceeding with caution. Myles turner signing fills the need for respectability in the middle in a world where Giannis is not a Buck.
Im not a conspiracy kind of guy but there are signs.
Just need to tell some media to stop calling Giannis the greatest Buck in its history because they forget about what Kareem did in 6 seasons. ROY, THREE MVPS, and a chip.
Giannis career is at 12 seasons now at age 30. Perhaps factor in "Buck Career" then I can see it in that context.
Do I want 32 year old Giannis who has a player option for 62mil? I don't know. cuz he go that.
Would he waive that and sign a team friendly deal to assist in keeping a competitive roster?
Yes, I love the guy as he is today, but Im not looking at him in two years and keeping room.
With Two years left on his deal and that player option bucks can put him out for auction and get a very healthy return NOW.

Someone else suggested this: he wants Bucks to use all of the rest of their current resources to upgrade the current roster, for him and team. Plausible too.

They have already done that though right ? They already have lost control of all of their picks for the next 6-7 years. And their last big maneuver was the Lillard- Turner thing.

They have exactly 2 things beyond their roster, I think: 2031 pick to swap, 2032 pick to trade.
In between, they also got 2 years of first round exits cause Dame and Giannis got injured in alternating years.
Not a good return I think.
Oh, they also get the pleasure of taking a $22M cap hit over the next 4 years, so that’s like paying but not having a Josh Hart level guy on the roster

Yes - I think Giannis as well or maybe Knicks with Giannis back channel approval —- timing is very odd if we are talking about next summer.
What I find interesting is I’ve seen Sham’s on 2 different shows specifically reference the 20-25 game mark will be highly important. That earlier timeline vs say the trade deadline sounds like someone specifically gave that (20-25 games) # to Sham’s.
Let’s say a trade we’re going to go down —- for me I think Bridges might be the better fit next to Jalen/Giannis vs OG.
More versatile, less injury history vs OG and to a degree Giannis overlaps a bit defensively with OG. Feel like Bridges could be better 3rd wheel vs OG (no slight on OG). Also possible if say deal centered around Kat/OG that a Kuzma, Portis or Green kid from Milwaukee might be coming back as part of deal to fill some PF minutes if OG is sacrificed.
Hopefully this doesn’t derail Knicks mindset going into season - could see guys looking over their shoulders right now thinking about winters in Wisconsin.

We may also find it strangely coincidental that 25 games lines up exactly when trade restrictions come off (12/15) for most of the Bucks roster, including Miles Turner and Bobby Portis. Could just be good timing too.
