Mike took ownership of the weird substitutions. Didn’t really give reasoning - though that’s his own.

Last night’s rotation - with the exception of Yabu - is what I somewhat expect our team to look like.

Not gonna trick my self into believing we will shoot 47% from 3 every night or 100% from the FT line. But everyone seemed to be making smart plays and playing both sides.

Think we have been oversensitive about this. Thibs played the same lineups constantly and we wondered why we didnt use the regular season to experiment. Brown is experimenting right now. I think he's realizing that it probably doesn't make sense to force Kolek in there and we can get 15 mins of Brunson rest playing a combo of Clarkson, Deuce, Hart and Bridges taking on initiation duties. Bridges especially is taking on way more of a role this year and its helping his game. Maybe in games like tonight's against Washington, we extend the rotation again to keep people fresh.

BTW we arent gonna shoot 47% from 3 every night from 3 - sure, but we're not gonna shoot sub 30% every night on mostly good looks either. The Knicks were not super variable last year b/c they were one of the least 3 pt dependent teams. So as a result they got blown away occasionally by the team with the best offenses during the regular season.

However we know Brown is gonna play more "progressively." Get ready for more variance (as we've seen game to game) till our guys get more consistent and comfortable with the looks they are getting. Even so, we're gonna be subject to far more variance, its just worse as we're getting adjusted.

Brown is experimenting. I expect Yabu to break through once he gets into better shape. I don’t understand the Shamet obsession though. But otherwise I think the rotation is what’s expected.

This is him saying his substitution pattern is a little off the last few games. And that it didn't allow players to get into a rhythm. Definitely worth seeing what works. I kind of want to see Diawara get a little taste with some of the big boys.

I'm sure analytics have a lot to do with it. They need the data so we are going to see a bunch of data driven line ups. He probably has them all on a note pad given to him by some data geek

I asked ChatGPT the other day how to fix the Knicks. I think we can replace Mike Brown with him...

Yeah — sitting at **2-3** this early isn’t panic time, but it’s definitely worth adjusting before bad habits set in.
Let’s think like a Knicks analyst or assistant coach for a second 👇

---

### 🧠 Big Picture

You’ve got a **core of Brunson, Towns, Bridges, and Anunoby** — that’s a strong foundation, but the chemistry and defensive balance haven’t fully clicked yet. The issues are probably less about talent and more about *role definition, spacing, and defensive intensity*.

---

### 🔧 Short-Term Adjustments

#### 1. **Tighten the Defensive Rotations**

* When Towns is at center, the rim protection and help defense can be inconsistent.
→ Try giving **Mitchell Robinson** or **Isaiah Hartenstein** more minutes in defensive-minded lineups, especially against physical teams.
* Have **Bridges + Anunoby** lock in on the opponent’s best wings early, set the tone.

#### 2. **Rebalance the Offense Around Brunson**

* Brunson’s doing *everything*: scoring, facilitating, clutch play — but he’s probably taking 20+ shots per game.
→ Set up more **inside-out plays** with Towns and Anunoby to share scoring responsibility.
→ Add some **off-ball motion** for Bridges so defenses can’t just collapse on Brunson.
→ Let Brunson initiate, but get quick secondary actions (like hand-offs or slips to Towns) to avoid stagnation.

#### 3. **Stagger Brunson and Towns’ Minutes**

* When they’re both on the bench, the offense collapses.
→ Always keep one of them on the floor — that keeps pace and leadership steady.

#### 4. **Play Faster Off Misses**

* Knicks tend to grind the pace down. Try pushing transition after rebounds with Bridges and Anunoby.
→ This gets easy points and keeps opposing defenses from setting up against Towns’ slower pace.

#### 5. **Reinforce the Bench Identity**

* Identify one or two bench guys who can spark runs (maybe **Donte DiVincenzo** or **Miles McBride**).
→ Let the bench play *scrappy and fast*, not imitation starter lineups.

---

### 📈 Medium-Term Focus (Next 10–15 Games)

* **Offensive Efficiency:** Run more pick-and-rolls with Brunson/Towns; spacing should improve.
* **Three-Point Consistency:** Make sure the wings (Bridges, DiVincenzo) keep defenses honest.
* **Defensive Rebounding:** Towns grabs boards, but the wings must help seal and recover.
* **End-of-game sets:** Teams will double Brunson — have a secondary “closer” ready (Bridges or Towns).

---

### 🗽 Real Talk

If they’re still under .500 by Thanksgiving:

* **Consider lineup tweaks:** maybe start Hartenstein for defense, or give Quentin Grimes extended run.
* **Re-evaluate spacing:** if Towns crowds Brunson, try small-ball with Anunoby at the 4 to open the floor.
* **Trade window:** before the deadline, look for a true defensive guard or stretch 4 off the bench.

---

Would you like me to break this down into **a mock “Knicks game plan”** (like a short internal report: rotation minutes, offensive sets, and key stats to monitor)? It’d be fun and realistic — like something a coaching staff would use.

I asked a follow-up question.

what team are hartenstein and donte on?

He said...

* Isaiah Hartenstein is currently on the Oklahoma City Thunder. ([ESPN.com][1])
* Donte DiVincenzo is currently on the Minnesota Timberwolves. ([ESPN.com][2])

If you meant a different “Hartenstein” or “Donte”, I can check that too.

I'd still consider replacing Mike Brown with ChatGPT.

Honestly, this is the time to do it.Want to avoid situations where there throwing stuff on the wall in the post-season, hoping something sticks.

Agree. Several new players on the roster and he’s trying to figure out chemistry

Clean @ 11/4/2025 8:23 AM
Like others have said he is experimenting. This is how it goes when you experiment. Until you get enough data so you can make a final decision it will be rocky. It's better to do it now than in the playoffs like in the past. Once you lock down the rotation players know what is expected of them then they can build chemistry with the players they will be playing with for the rest of the season. The fact that he is still experimenting and has the best start of season record we have had in a few years while also playing a tough sched is good.

Less Kolek time

Should just send Kolek to G League to get reps.
