Knicks · What’s the deal with Yabusele? (page 1)

ramtour420 @ 11/11/2025 6:48 PM
I chose "other" I think he just needs more playing time ( hard to come by) to get his confidence in just letting it fly when open. And we haven't seen the best of him on D yet.

I recall some fans expressing doubts about Hartenstein’s game early on in his first season here too. I’m thinking Yabusele will follow a similar trajectory this season.

I thought of him. He had an undisclosed injury at the time. Which he admitted to later on. I don’t remember what it was.

Achilles. And he took until the next year to really shine in the role.

Yabu played 70 games for the first time in his life last year and went deep in the Euro's over the summer. He is prob just exhausted and still figuring out how to fit in.

I think he has been good, just not great.

They all can't bring OG magic instantly. Mikal took a whole year and a head coaching change to figure stuff out. The Heatles took 20 games before they started to look good and get activated.

Yeah I hope you’re right. I think the biggest issue is I’m not sure what position he is or his role. I thought he was a stretch center but I didn’t realize he was only 6’7 (I think he shrunk on his listed height from last year) and can’t get off the floor for rebounds or loose balls. He’s essentially just a big undersized body who can shoot in theory. He gives me Michael Sweetney vibes. He can’t be the only big on the floor or we will get badly out-rebounded. And he can’t really guard perimeter players. So he is a tweener to me and not in a good way.

He has to get boards. If his role is to play more minutes when Mitch is out it starts by getting boards and finishing stuff inside - put backs etc. He isn't doing that well, and missing his 3s so its looking bad. Need to bring the basics first, get the boards and the easy buckets if you're slotting in when Mitch is out. Do your best defensively. Then I think he can bring the 3 ball game which will add another dimension. But if you're just a corner shooter who's missing and you're big and not playing like it, then you kinda look useless.

He is definitely capable, we've seen it in a few different formats. Just has to get confident.

Yabu seems hesitant. Like he is pre-thinking everything and it shows.

Gotta make his shots too. And he has turned down some shots where I feel like he would have taken them last year? Or at least that's what the highlights suggest

@Martin, @Andrew
Are you aware that the initial post & poll portion of these poll threads does not show on the mobile site?

Other: He is French!

He looks like he has no lift. He took a shot last night from the left corner and looked awful. My guess is playing thru an injury.

Not a fan...bring back Precious
nycericanguy @ 11/13/2025 11:17 AM
IDK but he looks absolutely awful on both ends, somehow worse than Precious.

If he doesn't fix things he could be gone at the deadline, his salary + some of our younger players could bring back a 10-15m player. We have our pick, + the WSH pick to trade as well.

Precious was underrated by fans in his role here.

Underrated but also easily exploited by opposing teams.

Agreed, his contract being above minimum level makes him a decent trade candidate. The only problem is he’s almost guaranteed to pick up his option for next year so his contract is probably more negative than just salary filler for now. But we can put he and Dadiet together and it makes for at least decent outgoing salary when needed.

Cuban back in charge in Dallas. Supposedly big roster shake up is coming. Probably looking to rebuild around Flagg with younger talent.

How can we poach PJ Washington from them? Yabu(Dec 15th), Kolek, Dadiet, Huk, 2 2028 2nd round picks for PJ Washingon. Works on trade checker (shrug)

PJ kinda sucks. not sure what he would really add to this team? cant shoot or defend, no rim protection and inefficient on offense.

he was one of the worst contracts given out this summer , we wouldn't even have contracts to match. DAL probably would need to attach a 1st to him to move him.

outside of AD not sure there's anything on that roster I'd want. KAT for AD would be interesting.

The problem is the Knicks are hard capped at the second apron so you can’t trade all of those players for a single player because you have to get back to the 14 players.

VDesai @ 11/18/2025 3:01 PM
I thought Yabu played well in the 2nd half and was active on the boards/making good plays.

We paid him because he was good last year, and we need him to play a role in the rotation because we are short on 4s. I think the solution is let him play through his lumps a little, because he needs to get comfortable with a new team/system/get in shape etc.

Panos @ 11/23/2025 6:50 PM
Let's just say that early concerns about him opting out and Knicks not having his Bird Rights were premature.
