Actually excited to see Trae with Sarr in WSH. They messed up royally trading Deni though.its also why I think MIN unloaded KAT while they still could, and I hope we do the same, especially if it gets you Giannis, b/c if not we could be looking at a salary dump down the road.
We made the conf finals last year and KAT was All NBA. That was not Minny dumping. It was them managing their cap as Rudy and that contract was untradable and they have Edwards on the books. Randles deal was managable and DDV very servicable player. That was Minny rounding out their roster also. They also had a great season. That matters right? Were you not entertained last year?
As for ATL, Trae numbers have not fallen off. He is 27 but his impact on that roster has fallen as they are going in a different direction. Im sure your correct that they could have gotten better value earlier but also his deal was larger and the market not great? We don't know what was offered. What we do know is they are playing better WITHOUT HIM this year and now you have something tangable to build on.
ATL has fucked up by not drafting Docic but also a plethora of other things including the Murray trade, Front office/ownership dysfunction. It adds up. They made conf. finals few years ago with Trae. That mattered. We don't like him in MSG but he proved a worthy villian a the time!
All teams fuck up BTW. Some more than others and naturally its easy to point to the failures. Dallas made a brilliant move to get Doncic then blew it but they had him for 6 years and 50 games in the 7th. Dallas Also phucked up by letting Brunson walk not really understanding what they had and locked in a cap situaiton where they got too cute. In hindsight really easy to blame. Yet they signed Kyrie Irving and the next seaosn made the finals despite the screw up. That matters! They gambled on AD and lost big.
What ATL will likely do is pivot to AD and if healthy could factor into a deep playoff run this year. Do they care if he walks
I like what Wiz did here. They get a playmaking guard for their young core and my guess is resign him to longer deal at less per year. No doubt they have made some huge bone head moves to get into the hole they are in and perhaps Deni was also a mistake. All teams do it. Wiz have plenty of cap space and they also turned McCallum/Kispert into a very good player with a young roster. Trae young is only 27.
As for AD? He has two more years on a contract after this one. The last year is a player option at 62mil. He is soon to be 33 and should retire after that year. If he wants an extension on top of that I'd think he has to restore his health a bit and prove more durable. Is ATL wise to take this on? It won't cost them much to get him and perhaps gives them a decent two year window in the east. Decent is the key. KP is on a one year deal and McCallum deal expires. I'd think KP gets waived.
Dallas Has Kyrie coming back at some point. Him, McCallum and Flagg is a fun team to watch. Maybe they get to play in?
yes, Dallas Phucked up. Unless Luka blows out an ACL and can't return to form its a bad look for them. At the same time AD could not stay on the court and Kyrie blew his out. This a year after they made conf. finals. It was good idea that executed horribly.
As for KAT? Yes, some fans need a Jules or Kat to lay blame on. Kat has some flaws which is why he was traded. Its the Extent to which is debatable.
