Knicks · GameThread: Knicks host Dallas for MLK Day game 5pm (page 4)

On the bright side, we shouldn’t have any losses for the next two nights.

I wonder how the delusional fans will feel after lose to the Nets.

My guess is he has already lost the locker room.

I didn't get to watch the game today, so ....

Same

Spent too many years loyally watching Shandon Anderson and alcoholic Steve Francis to waste more time on rubbish

Unless there is a miracle trade this season will end in tears

Our championship window closed the day Julius dislocated his shoulder.

Whatever this product is, I don’t enjoy it.

Ugh not wrong

Sticking with my premise that this is NOT about Mike Brown.

This is a Kat issue either around a lack of an extension and/or the trade rumors.

If Brown was the issue we wouldn't have seen the early progress and the solid/clutch play thru the in-season tourney.

No team survives it's highest paid player not giving proper effort or basically shitting on good basketball.

Concerning that nobody can get this in order but if Kat is in fact trying to tank his trade value he's done just that. It's easy to look like your giving effort but still dogging it - bad decisions, bad drives, fouling, late on rotations - eventually team grows tired of it.

I'll add that we just aren't that skilled with the ball and maybe just maybe Josh Hart isn't the be all end all of Knick success.

I don't think this is a Brown issue --- you have your highest paid player basically on a hunger strike refusing to play good basketball until post trade deadline and maybe more importantly post a max extension.

It's never been clear who exactly helped run Thibs out of town. I don't think it could have been Mikal alone, also think Kat/OG liked Thibs. Maybe it was trio of Mikal/Josh/Jalen (I think Josh/Jalen liked Thibs but maybe tired of him).

I keep going back to we were playing very well just a short time ago == not like Brown didn't come in and establish good system. Players have just stopped playing hard (this isn't role player driven - it's out top player or top players that are driving this collapse).

Not sure if Steve Popper is still a viable reporter -- used to be I think.

Saying rumors leaking that talks around Kat have been had with Memphis, Orlando and Charlotte.

Feverishly working trade options now....

Rick Brunson head coach NY Knicks

Philc1 @ 1/19/2026 10:06 PM
Btw teams are almost exclusively using bigger wing players to guard Brunson one on one which is forcing him to change his shot on those pull back jumpers. Maybe he plays more off ball with Josh or Mikal bringing it upcourt I don’t like Deuce and JB playing together.

Straight shooter, maybe not as tuned in as Ian

This

This is why I’m truly down on this team. There is a maturity issue, a character issue. Not everyone has it, but many key players do and it means that the inconsistency and lack of effort on defense isn’t a temporary issue, but a character issue. This happened last season. They might have another stretch of motivation and go on a run and try to fool us again, but I don’t believe it anymore. There is a true problem in the foundation of this team and until it’s gone, we are truly nothing but pretenders.

Dragon @ 1/20/2026 2:07 AM
how soft is Bridges, everybody is bashing KAT, but at least he is fighting on offence and trying, Bridges didn't shoot a free throw since they invented it, he is never aggressive ....... there is nobody on this team who can pick up a fight, even if he get a tech or throw him out, but fight, be aggressive..... they don't get angry.....

I do wonder if he actually could use a damn break and give up in the damn consecutive game streak.

Yes he’s soft by nba standards - almost anti nba given how he avoids all contact. Hoping he’s dinged up some lately or maybe caught up in whatever stuff is going on with locker room.

LivingLegend @ 1/20/2026 2:33 AM
My assumption has been Kat has been upset with leaks regarding Giannis (with Kat going to Bucks) or with not getting his extension BUT maybe he got wind of these other discussions with Hornets/Memphis/Magic.

Have to figure with 10 years in league Kat has enough contacts where he might get word he’s been shopped.

On that front his lack of extension was probably 1st indication.

There seems to be multiple issues (roster, coaching, KAT, toughness, defense, etc) but if you have mentally tough and resilient players it usually fixes most issues. Great players listen to their coach but are already wired to play hard consistently, not whine at the refs and play through adversity. I do think we have some of that but are mismatched with respects to their talent level. Hart embodies this quality and Mitch plays hard - but both lack offensively so we need high scoring/less defensive players so we don't score like 90's Knick basketball. I don't mind that Bridges is not esp tough as he shows some toughness by playing every game and trying to match up defensively with the tougher assignments every night. OG is also tough enough IMO - he just needs training to not fall down every 5 minutes. Deuce and Shamet play hard and don't seem to be a problem toughness wise.

KAT without Mitch makes us super soft and Brunson is defensively limited. I really think KAT just does not fit with our first team defensively and unless we can somehow land Giannis next to him - we will continue to struggle as we have $50m that can't play when the game gets more physical or needs rim protection. Some say Sabonis and while I like his rebounding, passing and vision - he's not especially big and offers limited rim protection like KAT.

Can Sabonis play better as a PF next to Mitch or do you have to live with him as an undersized C and struggle with lack of pain protection? Also he's out all season I believe so doesn't really make sense to trade for someone until they are healthy and playable...

Knicksfan @ 1/20/2026 4:23 AM
KAT is a problem.

Yes.

But, guys, many of the problems we are seeing, we saw them last year ant they were'nt all related to KAT.

Mikal is back to the same vanishing act that provoked bunches of posts questioning him and regretting the trade. The problem is that this passive, ghost-like version of him has been the most consistent one since he's been here. Do things need to work perfectly for him to show up in a way? Then we're fudged, because the NBA isn't about the perfect moment, but the effort and battle you do when everything is against you. Every team has talent. Any team can beat you if you let them and Mikal is part of this no-resistence crew.

O.G. has also been a problem but from another perspective. It's been reported that he wants to be one of the main guys and he certainly wanted to be paid like one. Well, he did because the Knicks knew he was a huge part of their defense and believed in his offensive potential, like we have seen many times. But not enough. Not enough AT ALL. He is way too inconsistent in BOTH ENDS.

These three players are heavily underachieving, but honestly, even at his overpaid price, O.G. still seems like an integral piece of the puzzle.

But KAT and Mikal? They are very expendable right now, and they shouldn't. The Mikal trade looks like the trade we shouldn't have done. The KAT trade, I think the risk was worth taking because I remember the dark times where many wanted to trade Randle for a bag of chips. But I'd do the trade again for the trade value. KAT's, even right now when he sucks terribly, is still higher. But I think the moment to trade him is either now or in the offseason. Will it be Giannis? Will it be Morant? I don't know, but these two players have consistently shown that they aren't what we need to be truly a contender.

We have some pieces, but this stretch has confirmed many things we have seen many times before.
