Knicks · GameThread: Knicks vs Nets 7:30PM DO YOUR F'N JOB! (page 2)

Good game

They've shown they can lose to anyone so getting a win does matter and doing it with their best defensive effort in over a month makes it a solid victory.

Landry Shamet is good at basketball. He just took Clarkson's rotation minutes. Jordan only played tonight because of garbage time.

Shamet significantly improves this team. That is now a proven fact.

The Nets are 12-30.

So we can beat a terrible team. Better than losing!

Now let’s see if we can beat a mediocre team!

I noticed 1 moment in game when Kat got his 1st offensive foul when driving and Rick Brunson was pretty animated on sideline (looked to be yelling at Kat - your holding him).

Read over on RGM a poster saying Brunson (not Brendan O'Connor) was pacing the sidelines calling out plays tonight.

Anyone else notice this? Maybe Brown changed the asst coach in game roles?

Im not verse on O'Conners normal style but perhaps from all this is team now asking for more accountablity. Not saying it was not attmepted pror but frustration and ego does not always make for receptive input. Perhaps the team is telling KAT your being a whiney bitch and elevating the physicality is hurting more than helping. Thus telling KAT he was guilty and he receptive is soemthing they are now attempting? Helping him just digest the occurnce and now "Just move on!".........

SergioNYK @ 1/22/2026 9:21 AM
Pretty amazing what a little effort can do. The entire team was locked in from the jump and played defense like their lives depended on it! I know it's the Nets and they are awful but they are still an NBA team and we've been struggling against the bad teams.

I think it started with Brunson and his effort and energy on defense. He was terrific on close out's! The entire team was! The best three point defensive game of the season by far. Shamet was awesome too! So good to have him back! He's the one guy on the team who fights through screens consistently.

I also thought KAT had a decent game and I get his frustration with the offensive fouls cause every other star gets away with it to some degree. But it is what it is and I don't think it's going to change. The zebras have it out for him for some unknown reason. He needs to adjust. Maybe move away from trying to drive from the top of the key. Brown might need to scrap those plays. Replace those touches with post up's or pick and roll/pops.

Looks like we are back to the 8 players rotation. I've always believed this was the best way to go if you're goal is to try and win games. It's a long season with injuries bound to happen so I suspect we will see Clarkson, Kolek, McCullers and Diawara again this season. But for now to stop the bleeding, we should keep going 8 with spot minutes for Yabu.

The only thing capable of turning this thing around was a win like that. Whether it sticks or not remains to be seen, but step 1 was pretty good.

Anyone else feeling good about the lack of Jordan Clarkson minutes?

it sucks that we signed two players for depth and neither have panned out. Really wanted THJR here and he's playing really well in DEN at vet min.

It’s wild how this FO has either hit gold or completely whiffed at times.

Also noticed during the post game presser, Mike made sure to compliment Kat as opposed to taking shots at him and sending him a message through the media. Someone or the team had s word with Mike

I was thrilled when we landed Clarkson but yeah - no hard feelings now when he didn't play.

I knew he would be a wild ride but too often he gets buckets but the scoreboard seems to head the other way. Maybe my imagination - hopefully he has some big games in him for down the stretch.

Mike Scotto on with Begley -- says I'll mention this 1st on your show.

Not only are Knicks talking with Pelicans on Alvarado but they've also checked in on Yves Missi.

Saw Jeremy Cohen post that he doesn't think Knicks would target Missi as a security blanket for Mitch but more so to replace Mitch (and expiring contract).

Now if that were the thought you could go expand deal to Mitch/Yabu/Kolek/Pacome for Looney/Bey/Missi/Alvarado.

Knicks get 2 back-up centers, new back-up PG, new back-up 3/4 and don't lose Mitch for ZERO.

HofstraBBall @ 1/22/2026 5:06 PM
FYI, we just scored again.

If we have to lose Mitch because of KAT's contract, that's a huge negative return on that trade.

We can resign Mitch and be a 2nd apron team next year. but truth be told, if KAT isnt going to step up, we're better off moving him for financial flexibility.

Think belief is Knicks will lose Mitch this summer due to a high # of cap space teams who will out-pay Knicks.

I don't know for me in terms of hypothetical trade Missi/Looney > Mitch, Bey gives us a legit forward scorer off bench and Alvarado helps with point of attack D.

Nalod @ 1/22/2026 10:45 PM

We won't lose Mitch for nothing. HE played here for 8 years and basically does one thing really well. Exceptionally well in fact. THat was something.
Thats not nothing. As he gets older, he going to get healthier? Its crazy he only will be 28 soon.
What has to be determined is if this window is legit trading him now has to improve the back up situation if the window is now. If not, keep him thru the year and risk losing him, because he gives us that legit chance
But........
DLeethal @ 1/23/2026 5:20 AM
I don't think Clarkson was bad for us this year. He wasn't brought here to be a savior. Seems sort of scapegoat-ey to me. But Shamet is simply better and more important to what we do. But I suppose after Towns' comments, he's getting blamed a bit for Towns' regression because Cam Payne was like Steve Nash for him apparently.
nycericanguy @ 1/23/2026 7:10 AM
Clarkson hasn't been bad but I thought he'd be better, more efficient on a good team.

Shamet is playing really well, he's what I envisioned when I thought he could be a DDV lite for us. I mean 9ppg in just 20mpg and 44% from 3. DDV is at 38% from 3 and 13ppg despite playing 32mpg. So Shamet has actually given us more scoring per 36 than DDV, heck so has Deuce. Pretty hard to believe that for me b/c DDV just seemed like such a natural scorer who was always putting up 20 every other game here.

Always thought he was a really good facilitator type player who could make some big shots and get on a hot streak
