this is absolutely the SHamet I was envisioning, glad to see him finally healthy and playing like he can. He's a perfect 3 & D guard for todays game. Can get his shot off easily, always moving on offense, defends with effort and more importantly, doesn't make boneheaded mistakes. he just always makes the right plays and that's underrated.
KAT & Brunson, neither defend, but the difference to me is Brunson is at least in the right spots, willing to take charges and makes the right play. He's a high IQ guy who is just limited physically. KAT though is just a really dumb player.
What a meltdown by us in the 4th. We absolutely did not deserve to win this. We go up big, get complacent and try to drain the clock with almost a quarter to play. End up chucking bad shots and playing the opposite way of how we played to get the huge lead. Towns is a fkin loser I want him off my team. We are up big, he comes in , Sixers go on a run and get momentum. If Towns does not foul out we lose this game. I just want him off the team. I don't care what we get back. Just get his salary off the books. He plays losing basketball and then he is all smiles. F that. Then Towns fouls out and THAT is a winning play because we go on another run...When he fouled out I said " Yes!" and pumped my fist.

They had 3 on 1 with Edgecomb as the only defender. Our transition offense is the worst I have seen unless we are shooting a 3 or Hart goes up for the layup. That about filling the lanes? They had actual plays in transition,unlike us.

ehh you can say the same about PHI. They were within 2 with a few minutes left and we came up with huge stops and hit big shots and extended the lead to 8. I don't think we really had a meltdown, just a couple of calls that went their way. 8 point leads in todays game are nothing.
NBA: Leads are rarely safe.
Embiid was impressive. We forget before he was injured he was best player in the NBA.
He looked gassed in the second half.
OG was brilliant keeping him in check, the putback dunk, and clutch shots down the stretch.
Road win vs a team that is healthy and on the rise if they can keep PG and Joel on the floor.

No doubt we had the game but could not ice it. Missed foul shots!!!! But there are games like that for every team.

That knicks have Mitch in the event KAT gets in foul trouble is all part of this team. In the here and now its what we got. Two healthy centers that excel in some areas and awful in others.
So on Friday Hart is quoted as saying in reference to Kat "I don't want to hear about your touches - get some blocks".
And yesterday during the game - Kat goes down under the basket writhing around like he fell into a water moccasin den and Hart is standing over him yelling "get up!".
I like this from Hart but it really shows you what a tool Kat is and is probably a window into some of the player frustrations with Kat. Hart's not perfect - he falls asleep on D, makes some bonehead passes but when push comes to shove he's going to compete. Kat on the other hand - will just commit a foul or flail like he's been shot.
Would have some hope for Kat but he's a +10 year vet -- not changing his stripes.
I don't want to see Philly in the playoffs. I don't want to see Embid, he is a despicable. Shamet is better for us off the bench. We need a 9th man, supposed to have been Yabu. Trade for a player to upgrade there unless Diawara can develop in the remainder of the season.

Thibs wasn't so perfect but it always surprised me that people didn't trust his judgement on players.
All the guys he got flack for, CAM & Obi the most, were EXACTLY what he thought they were. And the youngins he DID trust, IQ, RJ, grimes, Deuce...all panned out and developed well.
and its telling to me that he did trust Kolek a bit last year, even though some think player development is just immediately throwing someone out there 30mpg. I think Kolek will eventually be a really solid piece.
Thibs knows talent and knows who has IT. Hard to think of a player he had that he didn't trust that flourished elsewhere.

KAT did have bad back before game. Hard to tell how bad he banged it

Fortunately, we have enough center depth to accommodate him if/when he inevitably gets injured during the regular season, which mitigate his accompanying risk. We only really need him for a postseason run i.e. 16-28 games MAX. I think he can do that, especially if we're only playing him 22-25 minutes a game.

Both of you think a downgrade to a player who is currently injured, who has averaged about 50 games a year over the past 7 seasons, who has upcoming salary of $58.5m and $62.8m, and who will be 33 in 2 months is something viable?

Thibs has always been pretty spot on with regards to whether guys or good or not. Where I think he was slightly off was with his positional rigidity. I think he could have been more flexible playing IQ with Brunson, Deuce with Brunson, Obi with Randle etc. Obi was the one instance I think he was a little too harsh on him. He should have played more here. He's not a worldbeater but he's a useful talent that helped in areas we lacked like fast breaks and tempo. Also him and Randle actually played well together whenever they got the chance.

Center depth is an issue we can fix with limited flexibility. Finding a bonafide talent that can help Brunson win a chip is the hard part. If KAT isn't gonna be that guy, we need to move him and figure out how to get another guy in here, and it's likely gonna be a reclamation project coming at a discount because we don't have any picks to trade.
AD is the best option out there sans Giannis. But yea, we would need to add a 3rd big behind Mitch (could be someone like Messi for NO who they apparently like).

Yes but he's one of maybe 2 or 3 guys who can keep our ceiling high enough to win a title this year in a KAT move.

We only need him for 16-28 games. Rest him for much of the regular season and then hope that the 50 games he does play during the season, includes our playoff run. As much as he's forever injured, when he does play he is transformative. The Mavs have been two completely different teams with and without him. Fortunately for us, we're good enough to be top 3 in the East without him. If he's ready by playoffs, I can live with that because his skillet (and experience) makes him an excellent fit. His contract and demands for an extension makes me a bit queasy though.
This swap would not be my ideal outcome but I do think it is very compelling. I still think that dumping KAT should be the preferred option. We wouldn't have cap space but that +$54 million salary slot would give us enough flexibility to retooling on the fly. You can view it as addition by subtraction; similar to the PHO deal involving KD for lesser pieces (but better fits) in Dillon Brooks and that 10th pick
