Knicks · What do we do with the 15th Roster spot [2/12 Jeremy Sochan for the win!] (page 2)

1) I think Diawara belongs in the starting lineup. RFA likely to get paid. Lean into it. It is what it is.
2) Hart and Sochan have similar styles. Frenetic. Sochan is a worse shooter - but I think he will improve.
3) Rotating in you can use him where Hart was playing “big” without giving up size.
4) in a pure second unit, you have Alvarado, Deuce or Clarkson, Hart, Sochan, Robinson. Spacing will be meh, but recall that’s going to be against second units - these guys will run and gun, push the pace, attack the ball for 94 feet, and rebound the ball like it’s the last ham in the grocery store the night before Christmas. Frenetic.
5)22. He fits with the younger crowd timewise.

I wouldn’t want him to slow Diawara’s development. I love what I see in Mo D. But I am ready to promote MoDi to the starting lineup.

Brunson / Alvarado / Kolek
Bridges / Deuce / Shamet / Clarkson
OG / Hart / McCullar / Dillon
Diawara / Sochan /
KAT / Robinson / Huk / Jemison

Diawara is giving good wing minutes. It’s clear we need another big. We need Mitch at his best for playoffs. But need to cut back on his games a bit over the next 6 weeks to keep the mileage down. We need that big man who can help us survive until playoffs.

you're right we dont need Sochan anymore, MO is that big wing for us.

maybe Boucher is a better fit.

Absolutely love that Sochan chose the Knicks and it makes me wonder if there is some way they are planning on keeping him long term.

This kid is 22 --- can guard 1-4 and sometimes smaller 5's.

He's a scrapper defensively, can rebound the ball and maybe most importantly handle the ball some without calamity.

Does he impact Mo's minutes? Maybe....but I would tend to think Knicks/Brown will figure this out and bottom line we just added another versatile defender to the roster (without a long term commit attached).

IMPORTANT: When this team shows up defensively we win. Our offense I think is sitting 3rd in the league where our D has been sporadic and often soft.

Sochan was a kid I wanted in the draft - he's also another long body to throw at the likes of C Cunningham, J Brown, D Mitchell, J Harden, etc., etc.

LOVE THIS MOVE.

Don't think we need him chucking 3's -- might be interesting in the mid screen roll where he catches near the foul line and can find shooters like Hart.

Will see if he plays much but I hope they find a way -- also another body to manage minutes - keep guys in perfect health for playoffs.

I'm excited - finally another of my Baylor Bears on the roster (respect to Quincy Acy!)

Able body to play in the front court. I wonder if he'll get minutes though with how Diawara has been playing. Not big enough to take Huk's 3rd string C minutes. Hopefully we can get him multi year and provide a low cost prospect.

I honestly thought we'd be looking for a vet ala PJ Tucker to light a fire under some selective asses.

Ian Begley: Knicks targeted Jeremy Sochan at deadline, league sources said. One iteration was Sochan-Yabusele deal. So NYK essentially gets Jose Alvarado & 22-year-old Sochan at trade deadline. Sochan gives Knicks depth up front. Club is also high on Sochan’s defensive versatility and ball-handling, per sources. With Sochan on roster, Knicks feel like they have 15 players they are comfortable having on the court, league sources say

Begley saying we can sign him to vet deal but wonder if we could and he would agree to a 2-year vet min deal?

Me - I'd just assume go Sochan over Huck (I guess dependent on match-ups in an emergency) BUT I think most important parts are we get another long/solid wing defender and someone who can handle the ball.

Could see him in a Brunson/Mikal/OG/Sochan/Kat line-up where he assists in getting ball up court but we keep 3 solid defenders with length on court with Jalen/Kat. Mo is long/solid on D BUT Sochan better ball handler IMO.

Knixkik @ 2/12/2026 3:08 PM
I’m surprised he signed here and didn’t go for playing time elsewhere. He can’t shoot but maybe they see him playing some small-ball 5? He’s essentially the anti-Yabusele as a 4/small 5.

Right now I just see him as insurance and a project (though one that's further along than a Cam Reddish). I think he's got room to develop...if he could develop any sort of jumper...

Could very well get minutes due to injury, but once OG is back, I'm just not seeing the opportunities. Maybe Mo hits the rookie wall and Sochan gets a look. In your scenario, I'd assume Josh is in as a defender, rebounder, and someone who can bring the ball up.

But either way, I'm dying to see the orange and blue hair.

Love this move. Too many good players is one of them good problems. Not worried and honestly, Mo D riding the bench for the rest of the year is probably the best way to lock him up on a reasonable deal. Sochan is basically younger than Kolek. We need as much young talent as we can get.

Sochan is 22 and Kolek is 24, so yes basically younger and numerically younger too

That’s right, wasn’t he the point guard for the Spurs for awhile?. I think he can point forward ala how we had Randle bringing up the ball. Just gives us another guy who can actually dribble and see te floor
