Knicks · Game Thread: Knick at Hornets.....Nalod in the house! (page 3)

Nalod f*cked up

Knueppelmight be the best player from this draft. He’s getting it done

And in other news I was monumentally wrong about Detroit thinking they’d be bad wo Cade. They’re playing well w the St. John’s point guard

Nalod @ 3/26/2026 11:30 PM

First time in years that areana has a buzz to it.
That team beat us. Knicks defense in the 4th got the stops but could not hit when they needed to.
Kunuppel was impressive. Kid is strong and that shot is deadly.
Putting Bridges on Brunson was effective. They created some interesting match ups and Knicks just could not get it done.
I thought at least 25% of the aren was in Knicks garb. they were everywhere. I come from my office and was not donning any orange and blue.
SergioNYK @ 3/26/2026 11:33 PM
Flukey loss. Too many uncharacteristic things happened ie. ourebounded 43-24, Brunson 0-6 from three, Hornets 20 FT attempts to just 9 for us.

Give Hornets kudos but throw this one in the trash and move on.

Alvarado was atrocious tonight

Seems like this team goes hot KAT goes. When he’s involved and on, we look like a championship team. Without his offense our scoring is inconsistent.

Tonight was unwatchable. Without KAT involved this team is trash.

Brunson has zero chemistry with KAT and if they don't fix that they are getting bounced in the playoffs

KAT was visibly frustrated towards the end of the game and I don't blame him for feeling disgruntled at this point

If Brunson can find Mitch for two consecutive lobs then he should be able to pull his head out of his ass and run some PnR's for KAT

I constantly see the two of them bumping into each other at the top of the key and unable to figure it out. It is becoming pathetic. Even if KAT is not a rocket scientist, it is Brunson's responsibility to make it work. And he is failing at this big time.

A small number of positives:

Mo keeps doing good things though. He's a keeper

Clarkson has really stepped up his game lately

Mitch has been steady

My worry is not our bench. Our starting unit has very little chemistry for long stretches. Brunson's game is not meshing well with his fellow starters

Dragon @ 3/27/2026 4:54 AM
one of the positions, Brunson looked frustrated with Hart, the ball was not moving at all at some point when it was in the hands of the captain, they looked very stagnant today

Thought Macari was spot on tonight on KAT, right around the 16 minute mark: "Is it they have to figure out a way to get KAT more involved or is it that KAT has to BE more involved". Good summary on KAT following that remark.

Too much dribbling. Can't think of another team that has their PG dribble this much in 1/2 court sets...especially with their back to the basket.

Knicks will be a different team with Deuce and Shamet as depth. But man Kon is a good player. Best in the draft.
SergioNYK @ 3/27/2026 10:06 AM
Can't win every game and we were due for a loss so I'm not going to go crazy over this one. Hornets have been playing well and they kind of are a bad match up for us. The three point defense is still a major issue. Not sure how you fix it as it seems to be scheme and personnel. Deuce and Shamet would help but if we are going to get back to the conference finals, we will need Brunson to make that extra effort in this area cause teams are picking on him and swinging the ball to where he's got to sprint and close out. Hornets are 3rd in the league in three point percentage and that's concerning in a potential playoff match up.

OG needs to be better too. Cannot score 3 points in the second half after scoring 14 in the first half.

At least Kolek finally got some time over Alvarado. Let's be honest. Alvarado has been disappointing. He's shooting under 40% from the field and 30% from three. As a small guard, that's just unacceptable and unplayable. Cannot risk his poor shooting in the playoffs so if I were Brown, I'd let Kolek and Clarkson play those backup PG/non Brunson minutes.

Teams have several years of data and experience to plan for Brunson. Now that they know who to put on him and how to pressure him he is responding more often than not by trying to force the situation instead of working it out with his teammates to defuse those pressure defenses.

In essence, the more Brunson has to fight his instinct is to push even harder. You see this in guys with the hero ball mentality. It works great some of the time with the game on the line because of his clutchness, but overall it can be a major issue when his over-dribbling drives us into deficits we can't come back from.

We saw in previous playoff seasons that comeback wins are some of the most thrilling experiences for us as fans, but you can only string so many of those together until you get sent home for the Summer.

The way this team is playing against the better teams is usually comeback and hero balling. It is not a recipe for a championship when the offense stagnates for such long stretches due to one player's over-usage.

Brunson has shown me he is not a superstar, only a star scorer. He is not elevating his teammates. He is only bailing them out. That won't get it done.

Every team with an elite big pg gives us trouble. This is is why I desperately wanted us to bring back Delon Wright. This is one of those games where his defense would have helped. I know he’s no world beater, but I compare him to Eric Snow in that on most teams they wouldn’t be anything special. However for our team like AI’s Sixers, he was a great fit. Last night I would have gone:
Wright
Shamet
OG
Mo
Mitch

Just to get them out of rhythm at least. Onto the next one. I am a bit concerned about facing either Charlotte or ATL in the first round. Although I expect us to beat those teams in slowed down playoff basketball. Btw, it’s interesting that the Hornets sucked for pretty much MJ’s whole tenure, but are now good right after he sells the team.

Knicks have missed both Deuce and Shamet. Should have injected McCullar but that’ll be next year

martin @ 3/28/2026 9:25 AM
Yes, Diawara will be happy to do this next year
