Knicks · Why not go Old School? (page 1)

I've been thinking about this strategy where coaches put non-bigs on KAT or other centers to defend them with more quickness.
But in the old days, such a strategy would not work with the old school centers.
Patrick would establish in the post and drop baby hooks all day long.
So why not punish this strategy similarly? Instead of setting up at the top of the key and barrelling in for Offensive foul,
why not set up deeper and get the entry pass closer to the hoop? Is KAT unable to convert on this type of play?
Not saying it has to be his every play, but why not make the most of the height advantage and punish the matchup?
Just seems so obvious to me.

I like the idea but also think the athleticism and ability to switch/cover has improved significantly since the 90s. Players today are faster and more focused on defensive schemes as it is less of a "star" league. Also the Hawks may not be as tall but they do have length/wingspans that cause a lot of disruption. Then there is the Mitch free throw issue that is hit or miss much of the time. I do think using KAT to punish in the post and utilize his passing will be a big part of our success.

This....and I don't believe they teach "big men" how to post up anymore. KAT is horrible at it (and extremely weak) It seems to be a lost art.

KAT may not be an Old School player.

Coach did change things up too

Because KAT's post game isn't on the level it should be. Getting pushed out of the block by much smaller players way more than he should be.
There was a time when Dirk had a similar problem, which would hurt him come playoff time. Then he put in work to develop his post game/strength(One-Legged Fede). Processed to lead one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history.

Let's get Hakeem in here. Shit, Patrick is part of the organization. Harness that strength!

Rumor is KAT doesn't like contact, so maybe that's why he plays more on the outside.

KAT does not get calls. Seriously. He literally gets fouled every time he drives or posts up and the refs look the other way. NBA refs are a joke on fanduel’s payroll they and the NFL refs can entirely F off
