Knicks · Let’s talk Detroit (page 3)

Knicks getting a week off which helps especially OG. He probably won’t be 100% rest of the way.

Can’t believe I’m rooting for Harden.

Its great Josh gets time to heal that hand, Brunsons ankles get some rest, Mitch has had it pretty easy thus far stays good, and Kat gets to sharpen his claws a bit!

The Deuce abdominal finally got loose and let this team get more fine tuning in preperation.
Im not sure Who I want knicks to play next but let them play themselves into exhaustion and fatigue.
Knicks earned this rest and the advantage.

I think Knicks match up against Cleveland much better but Detroit also kinda playing like trash and neither team has seen Knicks 2.0 for this season.

7 game series is all I wish for so whichever team we get we come in fresh and butter their asses like Marlon Brando

How about this: Cavs seem easier to me but Detroit would prep Knicks better for an OKC matchup if things turned out well for them

While last year was a great reminder that regular season games go out the window in the playoffs, I'd still prefer to play Cleveland than to come out of the ECF banged up from a tougher Pistons series.

Cavs will win only when Donovan does what he did last night. He can explode, but I don't think he'll do it 4x in the series. I'd also like to keep home court advantage as long as possible. (Looking at you, Minnesota!)

newyorknewyork @ 5/12/2026 4:13 PM
The new dynamic of KAT playing as a "Joker" changes the dynamics of the past Knicks vs Pistons matchups. Or any other previous matchups.

On the other end vs Detroit. Blitz Cade to get him to give up the ball, attack Duncan Robinson as often as you can. They lack consistent floor spacing around Cade outside of him.

Ideally we would have beaten Philadelphia in the ECF with all the flopping to get us ready for SGA. Although Harden is like SGA light,so I want Cleveland

EwingsGlass @ 5/12/2026 9:26 PM
NYK / CLE / DET
Brunson / Harden / Cade
Bridges / Spida / Thompson
Hart / Wade / Robinson
OG / Mobley / Harris
KAT / Allen / Duren

Ok.

Cleveland has the more dynamic back court. More offensive starting 5, but Allen shrinks the court and they have defensive weakness. They can get hot in a hurry, but will have difficulty shutting down any offense.

DET lacks shooting, they are forced to start Robinson to add a single 3 point shooter to their roster and instead rely on a heavy handed sizable offense and hard nosed defense. They remind me of Thibs’ teams. Big, strong and chippy.

That said, I think we match well against either. I’ll take Cle for home court advantage, but otherwise good with either.

What are the matchups?
Hart on Cade
KAT on Duren
Bridges on Robinson
OG on Harris
Brunson in Thompson?

I’d put OG on Cade and Hart on Harris. Harris plays soft.

For me, besides Cade of course, controlling Harris is key.
The Pistons are a much different team when he has it going.

Keys will be keeping their bigger lineup off the boards especially Thompson.
How JB handles blitzes.
How we handle one of the better defenses in the league.
Health of Duncan Robinson and Lavert
The play of both our benches.

I see Detroit as a tougher matchup because of their size and athleticism.
Having home court also helps them against us.
However, if we play the way we have recently, don’t think it matters who we play.

Agreed watching the Magic and now Cavs series. Harris and Robinson have been the difference in success and failure for them as supplement scoring options. You can either choose to let Cade get his in a one on one matchup and focus on locking everyone else down. Or blitz Cade and make these other guys beat you.

Robinson is their main floor spacer. Could also put Brunson on him though. This takes away their ability to work Brunson in the paint with Thompson for offensive rebounds like they have done in the past. But in contrast Brunson would be easier to shoot over for Robinson.

All in all on defense Detroit's length and physicality will cause problems. But on the other side of the coin. We have the capability of defending Detroit better than they will be able to defend us. Prior, hero ball between KAT and JB made us easier for a team like Detroit to defend. We now have way more ball and player movement. Detroit on the other hand only really have Cade as a shot creator and lack strong shooting and floor spacing as well.

Lock in defensively for their limited offense. Grind it out as the better balanced team.

“If not now…..when?” Legacy media all jumping on the Knicks bandwagon. I don’t like it. It was better when they were all haters

I watch 90% Knick games only, but watching teams like DET, CLE, ORL, PHI now... they seem disorganized and make a ton of mistakes compared to us. None of them scare me.

It reminds me of when we were bad and teams like GS & SA were so good, I would watch them and they just look so organized and cohesive compared to the crap product we were putting out there.

Winning 7 in a row with some devistating historical spreads gives that impression and rightfully so.
ATL and Philly had no answers to counter and create issues. Detroit and Cavs obviously are tied and thus are "evenly matched".
GS and SA in their winning ways was a pleasure to behold.
Remember its not always a lack of execution of one team but the denial of it by the opponent.

Grind it out for sure. Also feel the pressure will get to the younger Pistons.
If we get the Cavs, major worry is their aggressiveness to the basket and number of fouls they draw.
Especially Spida. May take KAT and others out the game early. We would also have to guard the three well which has not been our strong suit.
But yeah, prefer the Cavs.
