Yeah, I only looked at the stats for anthro and agility and it was clear he stood out dramatically. I’d give up all three picks for him. But, seems unpossible.

And of course he busted out at the combine and the in 5 on 5 play today. Really did well and should be lottery
So it would take the 2 early picks and Deuce probably

Yea! We need a ready made starting PF to allow us the option to match up big with length, athleticism & physicality.
Have pieces with #24, #31, Deuce, Dadiet to dangle if they can identify a target and find a partner.
Would rebuilding Memphis at #16 be interested in a package looking to continue to stockpile prospects?
I'm watching what Charlotte does with #14 and #18 and which players potentially fall to 18.
I don't pay attention to Charlotte enough but with LaMelo, a PoA spacer who doesn't need the ball in a guy like Deuce fits perfectly for a team that is on the edge of making the playoffs. Feel like they need a Center and Mara at #14 seems like a really good fit.
Knicks would presumably sell high on Deuce and move him to a good, playoff level team that also has tons of cap space to give him both the role and contract he deserves, Leon is like that. McCullar seems to have enough at the contract price to fill some of the things Deuce does with Shamet to hold that spot/role down too. What is the cost of a proven playoff level guy who can be an off the bench guy or a starter and fits perfectly with your main man LaMelo? Would #18 for Deuce and #31 be a trade? At 31 CHO could target a backup PG that will probably be there and just falls out of first round territory?
I don't know what the swap would be for #18 and if a player the Knicks could target would still be there and a worthwhile long term fit for them that Walt got that hots for.
Lots of possibilities with a trade partner like Charlotte that seem to unlock both teams.
If we can keep Deuce I'm glad, but I do want a role for McCullar who would potentially be the best defender on the whole team. He will make us nastier on the defensive end and he will be solid on the offensive end with good ball management skills.

I didn’t see enough of McCullar in the NBA to reach that conclusion. I know you said “potentially”, but on team with Mitch, OG, Mikal, that’s a pretty bold claim for a two way player.

Find some clips if you can. He's a superb defender with good fundamentals overall. I said potentially because Wingstop do play elite defense too, but I do think Kev is on their level at least. Mitch is a mountain and a different animal so I don't use him as a comp even if he is important to our D.

I’m a fan of Deuce and think if he gets moved, McCullar would enter the rotation. Health and the 3point shot will determine his minutes. He is a baller in the way Josh Hart is, doing all the little things without the shooting hesitation.
This is the year for Walt to do his thing. So many intriguing prospects in the 14-31 range that fit with this team.
You can splash and try to move up with Deuce and more to get you a talent guy that’ll mold into a OG/Mikal replacement. Grab a small ball C/pf who could grow. 2 wing type specials. Wing and a 3rd backup C who is much better than Huk.

Can one of the college gurus suggest some names for a real pg w size? Legitimate handles and shot creation but also stout enough to put some resistance to Cade and SGA?

Morez Johnson at 24 would be a steal. Morez killed the combine as a big. Has championship pedigree. Don’t see him making it to us, honestly.
With 24 and 31, we could maybe move up to grab one of these. Maybe. Depends on how the draft shakes out.
I think there a number of solid 4’s in this draft in the late first.
I’m basically assuming Carr is gone.
Dream draft today:
24) Morez Johnson - Instant rotation PF 31) Jayden Quaintence - Naz Reid like project 54) Baby Stojakovic - check out his vertical.

OK I am up for this!
24) Morez Johnson - Instant rotation PF and small ball C 31) Tounde Yessoufou - Big guard ala Dort 54) Baba Miller - Mitch replacement
Super probably not possible move up
14/15/18) Cameron Carr - Will cost you Deuce, 31 (or possibly 24) 24) Morez Johnson - Instant rotation PF and small ball C

Morez dropping to 24 is the dream scenario. Pretty unlikely though. Not trading up for anyone if it involve Deuce. He’s simply too much of an analytics star. Knicks are better when he’s in every lineup. Too risky for any player in this draft outside of those top guys.

I'll agree with this statement.
Second Apron decisions will have to be made though. Mitch this year and Deuce next year will cost double/triple or whatever their salaries in short order and Brunson KAT need to be extended. That is just not sustainable, especially when you lose picks or whatnot. Boston felt this. You try to fix this now as much as possible when Deuce is at a trade peak value AND his salary matches the rookie scale slot before another year. Otherwise, you are just avoiding a problem that is a ticking time bomb. Knicks will/can only do this if if if they have the trust in Shamet/McCullar and the new player they draft.
What is Deuce going to ask for that the Knicks will feel comfortable with knowing he is an UFA in a year? Starting this summer or into next year he can demand whatever he wants if this type of shooting keeps up or just leave to go be a starter someplace if he feels like it, because he really does deserve it.
We all hate the previous OG injury counts and Deuce is worse or in the same range.
It's the same but different situation as holding onto Ja, Embiid, Giannis when you KNOW things are going to change. Do not hold onto Trae, AD, JJJ too long otherwise you trade for scraps instead of like Mikal, Bane, Dame initially from Portland and get the pot of gold. Take control of that narrative now and drive it the way you like or wait and get desperate and get driven yourself.

I’m leaning towards this and think it’s doable. Here is why. The Knicks core has really extended to their top 7 guys. They need all of them healthy and dialed in to be their best. None of them are easily replaceable. Let’s say we want to continue this and just keep adding cheap talent around them.
Sign Mitch to a front-loaded, descending contract. Same with Diawara. Give him a contract similar to Deuce’s current deal that starts a bit higher and scales back over time to close to minimum. With front loaded contracts, commit to going over the second apron next year.
The following year, renegotiate with KAT at a lower number and Hart decline the team option and bring back at a lower number. That will coincide with Deuce being extended at a higher number. Sell this Knicks group as trying to keep them together as long as possible. The top 7 plus Diawara and pick 31 on the second round apron contract. Everything else is up in the air. That’s my thought. We can go over the second apron for a year and given Harts contract, KAT’s contract, and Mitch descending, we can drop below again and keep it going a bit longer.
Knixkik@ 5/14/2026 1:39 PM
And if it’s just not sustainable, we probably say Bye to Bridges via trade and try to replace him in the aggregate. But resigning Deuce is a must.

Good player I watched a good amount of. Reminds me a lot of Naji Marshall. The concern is the shooting. But we aren’t getting a perfect prospect outside of the top 20.

It's the second apron that is not sustainable. How do you trade Mikal and take back salary and extend Deuce?
martin@ 5/14/2026 2:00 PM
Pick 31 and he has a chance to gain weight for a few years?
