I was thinking Cav's were cruising and they had mentioned the effect of preventing knicks from getting into a rhythm. Then was thinking about Mr Pano's but given they don't use Mitch early in the quarter.........Well, ok, we can leave that alone.
But perhaps in retrospect it served the knicks well as it slowed the game down because Jalen was trying to do too much and forceing it. Maybe Knicks gathered their poise and got the defense together which got them into the groove? Then the pace picked up and Jalen was brilliant in transition.

Thus the hack strategy kindo failed but in a way not predicable?

Mitchell was great in the first half. He came in and immediately changed the.momentum and got the Knicks the lead, Second half he looked bad.

As you like to say, I think this analysis is in "hindsight" and, in my opinion, conjecture. There's no proof of correlation between this and Jalen exploding in the fourth quarter a full 8 mins of game time later. My feeling at the time it happened was that Mitch was impactful on the game, and they wanted to take him out of it. Mitch brings a level of energy and rim protection, and even away from the basket, that changes the game, otherwise everyone would not be trying so hard to get him off the court, or gain possessions by having him miss free throws. Having this Achilles heal must put a seed of doubt in Brown's mind to put him in in situations that could swing either way. My argument is just to maximize his minutes by getting him in there when that Hack strategy would result in getting the team into the penalty very early in the quarter. Its clear its not a popular strategy, but I'll continue to think it should be explored. If its an ego thing, let KAT start the game but let him rest at the start of 2nd and 4th quarters.

Otherwise, I'll just let it rest at this point.

Hawks kept intentionally fouling to get into hack-a-mitch in the first round to put themselves in penalty. I think Sixers did something similar. Dumb dumb dumb. Maybe Cavs will do the same since this is a copycat league.

Agree. It’s a stupid strategy even if you put together a run you go over the limit early which means free throws for our guys once Mitch leaves the floor.

sorry still feel the same way. I think the Cavs see hack a Mitch as a positive, lower eFG%, plus it disrupts us from establishing a rhythm and even can affect chemistry. I know Knicks love each other but when the guy's not hitting free throws there has to be some element of "get him off the court". He needs to hit his FTs.

if you want to start him along KAT and bench Hart I might think that's interesting but still risky

I think worrying about Mitch is like the old saying, "don't let the tail wag the dog". Primary thing is to get doing what we know we can do, and use Mitch situationally.

If the NBA wants to fix this all they need to do is make taking FTs (instead of out from the side) elective.

yes, BUT they choose the timing strategically so the only one going to the line is Mitch, and then there's not much time after where the rest of the team can exploit it. And we can't get him off the court easily unless we burn a time out. he needs to get his FT% in the high 50s or better

yes, BUT they choose the timing strategically so the only one going to the line is Mitch, and then there's not much time after where the rest of the team can exploit it. And we can't get him off the court easily unless we burn a time out. he needs to get his FT% in the high 50s or better

Hacking is very situational and a piece of the chess board some coaches impliment better than others, and its about execution of the concept. We in the statistical game and it starts with his FT%!!!!

He was awful last night at the line!!!!

We won 8 straight playoff games? I think Mike Brown is handing the sub pattern pretty darn good.
He put the team in a position to succeed last night and they executed. They made him look genius!

Let's think about this from the opposite point. I am sure the coaching staff has considered this. The question is why haven't they implemented it? I am sure they have
thought of it
