Knicks · The Near Future...... (page 1)

While knicks are advancing, all teams are looking at players, trades, potential FA, roster scenarios (who might shake out), and so on.......

I think we have a draft thread but perhaps one we can segregate trade concepts, FA's (including our own) and draft.

Our bench did not have dead weight cheerleaders or "mentors". Our bench warmers are yoots either ready to start advancing or will be let go either by being trade fodder or outright let go.

1. Dadiet: On the cusp of turning 21 he has takent an unsual path. Lets pretend he is not French, or Knox, but on his own. Leon and co. have a plan we are not privy to? The sweet jumper? Good length? getting his body with man strength? He on a Deuce like assention? Or is he a throw in for a trade/pick? In other words he has not shown much but is he a prospect?

2. Diawara: Talk about outplaying draft status? THis kids looks like a 1st round pick with more intrigue given he has performed at this level. Not a sure thing but not a bust. Lets assume Leon knows what he is doing and has an agreement with him and his agent. We did give him an opportunity and thus he owes us something for it. Perhaps we in turn trade him but we get something in return.

3. Huk: This was the year fo him to show up but Mitch stayed healthy. I think there is more here. Funny, he has played in 54 games and his minutes are up over last year. With Brown, he is not allowed to even look at the basket! I have no real take here. 7 footer and mobile. I need to see if he has any offensive chops. Looks quick enough to play PF? Since knicks have been blowing out teams those garbage minutes might skew his totals a bit.

4. Deuce: Seems like we turned him from a defensive demon to a micrwave scorer. He is due an extension. I can see him being resigned, traded, or allowed to walk after next year. No revelation here. We all love deuce but.......

5. Mitch: Similar to Duece. What is his real market value? He content with is role? He had more offensve load last year when Thibs allowed him some room to show off his handle and it looked ok. But how can you give the guy the ball if he can't hit a foul shot? Jarret Allen is the prototype. He is nice touch around the rim but look at last night (game one ECF's), Allen gets hacked rather than left to score and missed to key FT's in the melt down. Its not a blatent hack strategy but it something. While I don't see his replacement I can see him being allowed to walk. I trust Leon here.

6. Mikal: He and Josh (separately) could be part of a bigger trade. Be nice to get a Walker Kessler (see mitch) but thats just one of many far out concepts. Two thirds of the Villinova mafia. Hard to fathom going forward without both!

We punch a ticket to the finals that matters. Keep praying on OG's hamstring!

I’m really high on Diawara. I’m not high on the others. I don’t expect Hukporti or Kolek to be on the roster after this season. Hukporti will be let go and kolek will be traded to a team where he can get a real opportunity as a backup PG. McCullar could stick as a non-guaranteed player due to him being a useful wing in theory. Dadiet might hang around another year simply because he makes enough money to be used for future trades, etc.

I expect the Knicks to mostly replenish the youth in this draft. It’s a good opportunity to fill out the roster, as we won’t have a first round pick or pick at the very top of the second round next year.

The biggest variable next year is the second apron. Will they go over it or won’t they? They have done enough this year so far to justify going over for a year. If they can resign Mitch, might as well go over. If he leaves, it’s a moot point as they will stay below another year. So he is the biggest factor with all of that.

Shamet and Clarkson should want to be back. Do they value their roles on a contender or do they want more consistent rotation minutes ? I’d like to prioritize Diawara slightly more next year during the regular season and make sure he sees every game minutes. A lot of factors here. I have no idea what happens but my gut says we are mostly the same team next year with a couple of rookies replacing Kolek, Hukporti etc. time will tell. I really enjoy this process of projecting this stuff out, so it’s natural for me to focus on this and forget we are currently on an incredible run. I have to try to just enjoy that first.

Wow surprised at your Kolek trade mention. Knicks don’t need to trade him and his upside and ability to run team has been shown. 2 years left at less than vet min too. Don’t know how long GTA has to opt in or extend his contract, but you can’t move Kolek until at least after that. I don’t see any upside to trading him for the Knicks and lots for keeping him.

The near future is tomorrow night!! ECF game 2!!! What is this blasphemy!?! Talking about splitting up the team that may take us to glory!?? Thinking about next year already is something I can't even wrap my head around right now.

The only thing I have been saying all season is Pac can go. That's all I got. It's all gonna come down to the draft when discussing the end of bench players. Assume they will do whatever they can to juggle salary but, we are most likely going over the apron. Once that happens, contracts like Kolek hold tremendous value to the team.

That just took a lot of energy. GAME TWO TOMORROW NIGHT!!! LET'S GO KNICKS!

It’s middle of May and we’re still playing basketball!! Our off-season keeps getting shorter. Key dates:

Last day of playoffs - June 19th
NBA draft June 23-24
First day of free agency June 30th

Life is good

Yes I agree, there’s no real reason to trade him. I am just looking at how this front office operates. I expect Alvarado to opt into his player option and be the primary backup. I think the Knicks do Kolek a solid and move him to a situation where he can play, while recouping a second round pick or two as they are pretty bare bones in a couple years. With his contract being 2 more years for cheap, the Knicks can likely get a little value for him. And given the fact they will be managing around the second apron for the foreseeable future, they will not extend a player who isn’t part of the core group. Knicks tend to get ahead of these things. They will simply replace him as a third string PG with an overqualified cheap vet.

Yeah, the off-season is for teams that got bounced from the playoffs and we're still in it!

Ain't no time for trade scenarios

Well nobody here has to participate in this thread, but be assured Knicks front office, as well as OKC, SAS, and Cav's are in their offices staring at the whiteboard thinking of the chess game that is the off season. The coaches are not. Fans need not be engaged.
If Bucks are taking proposals knicks are thinking.

I would think the teams that are still in it have contigency plans. Cavs thinking about Lebron? They damn well should be. Mitch is a pending free agent. Be malpractice if Knicks were not engaged at some level either with agent and potential replacements.
No worries, nothing negligent by fans not.

As for Kolek? GTA was bought in as its obvious Kolek is not the man for the job NOW. Next year perhaps. Diawara? So much potential but for a team whose window is open and limited cap space its going to take some finesse/planning we are not privy to.
