Knicks · How Jose Alvarado Won us the game last night (page 1)

Obviously, Brunson led the charge and OG had the block and tip in but the real turning point was Mike Brown’s decision to put Jose in and leave him in for much of the fourth quarter.
This video shows the analysis

Tyler Kolek was the key to our comeback against SA in the cup game. Alvarado key to victory last night. Knicks are a championship team, but you can never get complacent and should always fine tune the roster. 3rd string big man who can defend and hit FTs should be our priority in the draft. And either grooming Kolek or getting a high level backup PG who can play on/off with Brunson as a secondary ball handler is the need we need to address in the offseason. Not sure Jose is the long term answer there. Other than that, bring everyone back.

Played the game of his life I hope he keeps his player option and stays with us one more year
MaTT4281@ 6/11/2026 11:41 AM
I was concerned about having him on the court and the liability of the small backcourt on defense.
Jose was phenomenal, even with the fouls. Man went from the lottery Pelicans to literally living out his dream. I'm thrilled for him.

Jose was the key to winning a finals game at MSG as a local kid. What a dream.

Gotta admire the chutzpah of him taking big by shots and driving to the basket in the biggest game of the year 4th quarter

Not to mention he was our "enforcer" - only one I saw calling out Wemby publicly for the Game 3 no call, and immediately tried to foul Wemby back trying to pull out his leg. Looked like he was determined to commit a flagrant, and maybe the fact it wasn't called was some sort of justice.
markvmc@ 6/12/2026 7:49 AM
It really should have been a flagrant, but at that point, even apart from the one-sided foul calls, the refs had blown so many calls, and had called (correctly) the flagrant on Robinson. I think they were in fear for their safety if they called another flagrant against NY.

JB needs a playmaker / ball handler next to him that can setup the offense. Jose and Kolek are good bench players. We need a starter and JB need to play more 2 guard. That’s where he’s special.
blkexec@ 6/12/2026 3:24 PM
JB is Kobe but in a smaller package below the rim type. Mentally he’s a killer and go can get hotter than fish grease.
Imagine if Kobe was a full time PG……or MJ. They wouldn’t have reached their winning ceiling.

This is more so *needed* vs an elite defense like the Spurs or OKC and probably Detroit. Not sure if that needs to be a full time lineup thing. As most teams wont be able to deal with KAT as the hub that worked in the playoffs to this point.
Need the flexibility to provide the different options and use as needed.
Could use a big PG next to JB as stated. Also need PF/C who can provide inside scoring threat with touch around the rim who does the dirty work to free up and be flexible with OG.

MJ was a total sociopath winner. Kobe to a lessor extent perhaps with more narsassistic tendancies? He would rather lose and prove a point where Jordan did not accept it. NO doubt both GOAT like talents! Kobe did not get Finals MVP until the Gasol era. Shag got it three times and in part Kobe could not handle sharing the stage with him in his 20's. Jordan had 6. Phil Jax was the "Sociopath Whisperer".
Jalen is a great study perhap our buddy Marv can best describe. Leadership more in the vein of Curry? Steph in the mold of Majic johnson in he like to have fun ripping teams hearts out. Pehraps in time well better understand who his is when the book gets written. I bit like chis paul but not a dick, and a better scorer and thus far durable thru long seasons. He is entering 1A status but interesstingly might not the MVP of this series given OG's play and contribution.
Not a lot of small guards have won the award. Steph , Isiah, Tony Parker....... If Maybe Jalen has a monster game to seal it and it tips the balance? I hace no preference who wins it, as long as its a knick!!!!!

The MVP is for either KAT or OG to take with a big night.
the edge at this point goes to OG because he's trending and because he just made one of the biggest buckets in Knicks history

Jalen before he’s about to take over the 4th quarter gets this look on his face everytime like he’s Rambo about to fly a helicopter into the POW camp

I don't think it will be Towns (assuming we do win it). He's had to sit too long with foul trouble last two games. OG should get it, but they might just give it to Brunson as the star player of the winning team.

The argument that the Spurs adapt their defense to Brunson and that he has improved his play in the series with each game as the evident first choice even with the changes in the offense reassure me in case he most likely wins it. Would be awesome if OG got it with another incredible game tonight, but it will be awesome as well if Brunson deservingly gets it. Towns has been too up and down after Game 2 to get it.

KAT was +6500 to win MVP yesterday. Put $5 on it

Agree with this. There’s lots of great PG’s in this draft. I’d love to find a way to get a guy like Okorie who might drop
