Same goes for Landry. Some guys take that over everything else.
Am I the only one hoping either for an upgrade over GTAvocado or that Kolek somehow grows into the roll?
GTA is getting overrated atm coming off a championship. He was very helpful in key games in the playoffs, but he was also ineffective in just as many games during the playoffs.
I have no idea what the FO intends for him, but my hope all along is Kolek is next up to the plate, but I have no certainty there either.
I agree w this. Jose’s best traits are he’s a fighter and does not wilt and chemistry. I like him bc he made key plays but backup pg is a mess and big area of need. We need size there too considering Detroit and okc to say the least.
I agree. We traded nothing to get him and he helped us win a chip but he’s far from a perfect fit at backup PG.
Yes between Jose deuce and Kolek all very likable but also glaring issues. Draft will be very instructive but I’d like a guy with a good handle and who can defend w some length

Huge! Need to know the years to determine if we have to stay under the 2nd apron

Yea trying to figure out if this was a sign we are going to disregard the second apron or a sign we might have prioritized Mo and will shift other pieces to stay under.

IDK how we can give him that much without using our exception, which means we would be hard capped at 2nd apron and cant sign mitch or shamet.
but, Brock is a cap genius so I'm hoping we have something up our sleeve here.

I’m thinking it means we’re going over the 2nd apron. Feels like a 4 year deal which fits into the 2nd year vet min salary that we’d be limited to when going over the 2nd apron

interesting, didnt even think we could give him 4 years and 10+m. but yes I cant imagine not going over the 2nd apron, which is why Dolan's comment was so odd.
maybe he was tryign to scare teams off from offering MO, but MO clearly wants to be here.

that would be awesome best case.
It was bittersweet watching MO last season b/c I knew he wasn't quite ready yet and also didn't want him to be TOO GOOD and have another team throw a bag at him.
but next season I can actually enjoy watching him develop.
And so happy that we prioritized him so much.
Looking forward to watching MO more than anyone we could have drafted, we might be best off just trading those picks for future picks if we are resigning Mitch and Shamet.

Have absolutely no doubt that its a deal that kept them from having to touch the tax payer mle.
$2.7mil over 4 years would be $10.8mil or $2.6mil = $10.4mil. There is probably is a player option after 2 years.

thats a great contract for us and also gives MO a nice chunk of guaranteed money for being a #51 pick. This looks like Deuce situation all over again.

People are speculating that Dolan was confused. When he was calling it suicide he was referring to us being over the 2nd apron for 3 years
Feels like we’re going over. Now the question is who comes back and who doesn’t? Mitch, Shamet and Alvarado are probably back. Huk, McCullar too since they don’t cost much and there’s no reason not to keep them
Sochan and Clarkson probably not bc we don’t need them and we likely want to bring in 1 rookie
Unless the Knicks don’t like what they see in some of our young guys which is a possibility or if they want to make tweaks we only have 1 spot in our 15 person roster
Starters: JB, Bridges, Hart, OG, KAT
2nd Team: Alvarado, Deuce, Shamet, Diawara, Mitch
3rd Team: Kolek, McCullar, Dadiet, Huk, Rookie
It’s a REALLY deep team, especially if that rookie is Zuby or another quality player at 24 or 31.
It’s tough for our young guys to get time

You guys called it. I was really worried that we wouldn’t be able to keep him and go over the 2nd apron. This is awesome
Brunson
Bridges
OG
Diawara
KAT

yea maybe he was confused, because THIS IS THE TEAM that you go into the 2nd apron for, 2 more years to go for chips.
Caused me alot of unnecessary stress...lol.
but this team could be stacked next season if we just bring everyone back, and there's no financial reason we cant. Pay Shamet and Mitch for 2 years.
EwingsGlass wrote:Seems like Diawara is the hardest. Signing him anything over the minimum requires the MLE. Which triggers the hard cap. I would hard cap to keep him. Then becomes a question of what else he could get elsewhere. I’d hope to get him to stick around on a 4 year deal averaging 5mm a year. Backloaded.Robinson is a sizing issue. He’d have to take a real discount to stay here. Maybe take a 1 year deal (no trade clause) and get a bit better sizing next year?
Shamet - Same issue as Robinson. Sizing issue. If I am Shamet and someone offers more money, probably have to take the money and run. It’s a business.
Alvarado. Same sizing issue.
KAT extension. If KAT opts out of his last year and signs for less, then all these other guys can get “paid” next year with the difference.
Hart - It’s a team option, but if he keeps something steady - in the 16mm range, he can keep this squad together.
My priorities are
1 Diawara
2 RobinsonThe others are good dudes, but if they need to get paid, I understand.
^ In answer to your question, how they keep Diawara defines how they can keep anyone else. Robinson is next in my playbook.
Gamble on them now as they can be rotational 2nd unit pieces for the low in 2 years if not next season.

Same. Here’s another thought. Going into the 2nd apron could potentially help us accumulate assets. Let’s assume my 15 person roster is accurate and we use pick 24. We can trade 31 and 55 for future picks
But let’s say we have injuries or we just decide to give time to the youth bc we know regular season doesn’t matter. And let’s say Diawara, McCullar, Kolek and Zuby look really good. Good enough to want to put them into the rotation ahead of Shamet or Deuce or Alvarado. It allows us to trade those guys, maybe at the end of the year, and get more draft capital. What if we drafted Tarris Reed and he ends up being more valuable than Mitch? We could trade Mitch after the season and get a strong return AND maybe get under the 2nd apron after only one year when Combined with KAT being willing to resign on a discount.
If we execute correctly can we keep this run going longer by acquiring assets, drafting young talent with those assets and going back under the apron after next year giving us flexibility to go back over if needed

great points
Jose - Deuce - Landry was always an undersized trio and put lots of pressure on Mikal and OG to carry all of the 3/4 forward burden. Mo brings much needed balance there off the bench. But someone will have to concede a spot between Landry and Deuce.
