Knicks · The really short off season for knicks! How to run it back? (page 16)

I highly doubt Deuce, Landry, and Mo are all on the team next year. Landry was basically playing Mo’s future role as a bench wing. If Landry is back he slides to his natural 2 position and Deuce most likely gets traded for a pick or something. If not then Landry most likely isn’t back. I’m sure for Mo to take this deal he was promised playing time going forward.

Jose - Deuce - Landry was always an undersized trio and put lots of pressure on Mikal and OG to carry all of the 3/4 forward burden. Mo brings much needed balance there off the bench. But someone will have to concede a spot between Landry and Deuce.

Landry could theoretically take a hometown discount to stay but I think he gets a legit contract offer somewhere.

we can offer a legit contract...he doesnt need to take a discount. if we're going over the 2nd apron we can pay him whatever we want. there's no benefit to only going over a little, we are either going over or staying under. but staying under never made sense given this timeline, so I think Dolan just misspoke.

I keep saying this but I'm convinced we are signing Mitch for 2 years 40m, and Shamet for 2/20m... or something around those numbers.

Huk I can see developing into Mitch’s role in the rotation. He’s a 7 footer.

I don’t think the Knicks want to go over second apron nor should they. It would make rebuilding 5 years from now literally impossible

This is a great time for the Knicks to make improvements to the roster composition. I wouldn’t mind trading Deuce. His contract is small which is valuable to a contender. Since our roster is going to be stacked, why not use Deuce as the centerpiece to acquire an additional pick that lands us a 19 year old potential star like Ekuba Okorie who can take his time and develop. We need a PG who can lead the 2nd unit, play with JB and defend 1 and 2’s. He has a 6’8” wingspan and plays D - but he’s best known for his ridiculous first step and being one of the top scorers as a freshman. His team sucked so he didn’t have a ton of assists. If he stayed and the team improved he could’ve averaged 7 assists and been a top 10 pick next year

We can give Shamet a great contract by going over the 2nd apron. If we lose him it’s probably bc we didn’t want him, not bc we couldn’t afford him. I think we want him and he’ll be back

they can incrementally, 2-3m go over the second apron this year and just let deuce walk in FA

This makes a lot of sense if Landry has a 2-3 year deal. and we do not have a 1st round pick next year.

and if KAT gives a small discount, say he starts at 55-57m, they can fall under the second apron with just deuce expiring and a lower KAT starting salary.

this is one reason why I would be disappointed if we trade or stash our 2 draft picks tomorrow. we wont have a lot of opportunities to add talent onto the roster that can improve. our timeline to compete is now to 4 years and we have 0 1st next year. we gotta draft the guys this year so that they'll be ready to contribute when we can't add any talent to the roster.

I agree but you also get to the point where you have too many guys. Like is Deuce really gonna get benched at this point? Just wouldn’t happen, we’d trade him before he became situational.

Mo should be a big minutes eater for us this year. Tons of backup 3/4 minutes and even some 5 if that’s the plan for him.

If we trade our picks this year, we’ll trade them for picks. Maybe 31 this year turns into a protected 1st next year or 3 2nds

Under this front office, things are different. Just look at Julius Randle. We raised his value and used him to get KAT. Today Minny had to trade pick 28 + Julius to get 33.

Mitch had something like an insane 42” vertical when he came into the league. Huk is not Mitch but he’s not awful
