point is to just filter for analytical defensive big. I'm not trying to get into the weeds of rankings. Dwight Powell is very interesting here because he played on a bad team, and the way DPM and plus/minus analytics works he is an outlier due to the fact that your team is constantly in the negative +/- stats (bc u end up losing games), so the fact that he is positive on both filters is probably a signal that hes a good defensive big.

note: CMB as a rookie is crazy
capela
kalkbrenner
rw iii
dwight Powell
goga

all seem obtainable on some level.

For Powell couldn’t it also suggest he’s playing garbage time when the opponent has game in hand and rolls out 3d stringers?

Chandler @ 6/28/2026 8:36 AM
Can any of you cap gurus explain what the highly paid players can do to help? There was that clip a week or two back w KAT where the interviewer in essence asked KAT if he’ll do a Brunson thing and take less money so team can stay together and KAT essentially said we should all get together and discuss

Trading guys like Kolek etc is small change at the edges. Can one or two of the big guys renegotiate to provide the needed flexibility?

nothing, players cannot renegotiate contracts.

kat was talking about his extension, but thats after next season. he's due to make $61m, no one is going to pay him that much so the whole paycut thing is a bit overblown. he'll probably get an extension around 4/200m.

I’m starting to think a reunion with Precious Achiuwa is the best way to replace Mitch (along with Huk).

- He played well here before and fit in. No shot of a bust like that Yabasele
- He can guard 1-5
- He does the dirty work and contributes to winning
- Strong rebounder
- Undersized but has the strength and wingspan to bother bigger centers
- He’s only 26 and still improving
- Good on the fast break
- Can play the 5 and the 4 next to KAT
- His offense improved last year. He may have some upside
- We might be able to sign him to reasonable contract over 4 years
- He’s better than Drummond, Looney and Richards
- There may be better trade options but can we get them? Will we lose them in a year due to cap? Will they fit well or be the next Yabasele?
- By not having to trade for a big, we can use our trade assets to accumulate draft capital. As we saw in this draft, 2nd round picks are important - especially with us not having many FRPs

I’m fine with resigning Achiuwa to a cheap 1-2 year deal but he’s not a center. He can’t rim protect he’s a 6’8 PF and really an old school one at that.

Achiuwa also can only really guard other power forwards he’s not fast enough to guard point guards and wings. Hes not a bad player and I don’t mind him for depth but he’s has limitations

Mo Wagner is a UFA
and
Kevin Looney's team option of 8M may not get picked up

They are both better options than Precious

FO is watching the market right now

I could see Precious coming back. Curious if Melvin Ajinca will attend summer league.

I remember being impressed with him when we first got him. His last year wasn’t as good bc I think he was forced to play more PF bc we had 3 seven footers. I could be wrong but I think the issue was spacing bc he’s not a shooter. So putting him next to Mitch isn’t ideal

But I thought he was decent when guarding a traditional center

Wagner is a very different type of player. Strong offense and bad defense vs strong defense and no shooting

Looney is the same height as Precious. But he’s 30 and seemed kinda washed last year.

Precious started playing poorly when Mitch finally came back from injury and his minutes dropped.

Precious Started playing poor in Toronto. Dude got potential but never seemed to fill it.

He is also a PF not C?

How about Dadiet + 2nd rounder for Kalkbrener?
Chandler @ 6/28/2026 5:14 PM
if Mitch leaves I'd like to think we can use all those second rounders in a trade, e.g., Isiah Stewart was 3 second rounders, but not sure which centers we could get which would work with out financial situation.

if we don't get someone with good feet and strong D more generally a lot of flaws with our second unit (namely being short) will get exposed all the more.

I'm not sure about his locker room fit. Deeply religious, which is OK. But the proselytizing can get old quick.

High skilled defensive PF for Orlando that has had impossibilities staying healthy. 52 games last season were a substantial high in the last 5. Though his larger recovery seems to be over, he lost the last two months of the season to a sprained knee.

He will get picked up by a contending team willing to bet on his health.

The comment above on the locker room fit is well taken, though I’m not sure how relevant that really is. I’d certainly be offering him a minimum contract - though I could see a waiver claim catching him before he makes it to free agency.
