Knicks · Haywood a Knick? (page 1)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bskball.com reported that new york is interested in aquiring rookie center Brendan Haywood. Orlando already had Ewing, DeClerq, and Hunter so they don't have any use for Haywood. He almost got dealt in a four-way deal last week that would have brought Mateen Cleaves back but the deal fell through.

I think Orlando will be looking for point guard help and we may have just what they're looking for. We could send Charlie Ward and rookie Micheal Wright to Orlando for Haywood and a throw-in such as Dee Brown. That would be fair for both teams.

After this trade, we can sign new york native point guard Shammond Williams using the medical exception we get when Luc Longely and/or Mugsy Bogues retire. We will still need to upgrade, but i think our roster will look pretty good.
C Camby, Haywood, Knight.
PF Thomas, Johnson, Weatherspoon.
SF Sprewell, Rice, Johnson.
SG Houston, Sprewell.
PG Jackson, Williams, Brown.
What do you think?

This article in the Orlando Sentinel talked about Haywood not being a lock to be on the Magic roster, so there may be some truth to it.

Medical exceptions are hard to come by in the NBA, unless the injury/illness is non basketball related, so I wouldn't count on the Knicks getting any help from an exception.

NYC should not give up our starting/former starting PG for a crappy rookie center - aka Brendan Haywood. The guy is 7 foot and can't bench 185 pounds more than once. Imagine what Shaq would do to him. Or even Jahidi. Please! the ORLANDOUGH TRAGIC is the enemy. ENEMY. Charlie is worth alot more than everyone realizes. He is probably the most solid backup PG in the league, with Outstanding D, good leadership - he has houston following him like a puppy, and ward has toughness, what other PG would undercut a PF (remember when Ward Undercut PJ Brown in the Playoffs)? Yes, ward is a religious fanatic and stupidly blurts out zealousness and nonsense, but we shouldn't dump him for trash. I say we try and get rid of Mark Jackson, and let Ward be our starter, and Shammond his protege. Also, what is the deal with us carrying Rick Brunson, if we NEVER use the guy? In the summer L, he had some game, but not enough serious game... and what's up with us picking Mike Wright and Chenowith? We should have traded those picks for future considerations or something... in the Summer L, those two were HORRIBLE. Remember guys, orlando(ugh) is the team to beat in the east, if Hill and Tracey McGrady gell... McGrady is really a superstar.

Yeah, I'm not sure that Haywood is anything to be excited about. People look at his size and weight and instantly think that he is legit NBA center, but he was really soft at UNC if I remember correctly.

Anyone have a link to his summer league stats?

Hey, we already have our own version of Haywood: Felton Spencor. Let's hope the Knicks bring him back for the veteran minimum: I need someone on the team I can refer to as the Big Mamu.
Blade @ 7/31/2001 2:39 PM
that guy is soo hairy.....reminds me of austin powers 2 "u are hairy.....like ANIMAL!" "GRR BABY!!!"

either way orlando is gonna have armstrong backup grant hill at the point and will have a lineup like

5- Ewing/Declerq
4- Grant/Outlaw
3- Miller
2- McGrady
1- Hill/Armstrong

they dont need ward. what orlando needed was a young pf or a young sizable center with toughness. they didnt get that and are practically stuck with this lineup cuz they signed ewing and grant. who are still good when only relegated to rebounding, and teh fact that theyre only bein paid a combined 4.5 mil, thats a very good deal
Andrew @ 8/1/2001 10:38 PM
No chance now...Haywood's headed to Washington.
