NBA · Duncan to be named MVP (page 1)

Does he deserve it or should it go to someone else? Jason Kidd maybe? It's a close call. Thoughts?
BigSm00th @ 5/7/2002 6:07 PM
I thought Kidd should get it, but both are equally valuable to their teams. What about for Coach of the Year, I agree w/ Carlisle coming in first, but Rick Adelman, Sac-Town's coach came in second. Nets aren't getting any love.

Their big tournaround really suprised everyone and someone should get recognized for having part in the great season. I will have to agree with you there.

Sounds like the Knets could use this as a pivot to turn the East into a beast in the playoffs...

Knets?

Maybe that's a Knicks fan with Nets envy.

The Knets are the closest the Knicks are going to get to the playoffs in the next couple of years.

Very funny.

I think Kidd should have won it.

I read an interesting article saying that some of those voting were sick of the Eastern bias so they voted for Duncan as #1 and didn't even include Jason in their top 5.

I've watched all of the games in the conference semi's and Kidd has really impressed me (he deserves props for playing despite the nasty gash), but Timmy has struggled against the Lakers. 9-for-26? 9-for-30? Not very MVP-like...
BigSm00th @ 5/11/2002 4:32 PM
Yeah, but Kidd's going against the fairly inexpierienced Baron Davis and in the first round against Jamaal Tinsley and Kevin Ollie where Duncan is going against Shaq. And the award is on regular season play. But Kidd not being in the top 5 is absurd.

I thought it was fair for Duncan to get the MVP. Everyone says how much the Nets have improved but come on now, Kidd wasn't the only reason. Surely, having Martin and Kidd come back from season-ending injuries helped, getting McCulloch through FA helped too and the rookies contributed as well (especially Jefferson).

Duncan's team won more games and his impact on the team is huge. Anyone watched the Sonics-Spurs game where Duncan missed the game because his father died??? The Spurs lost by like 20 points. They looked completely lost without him. The next game he came back and the Spurs won easily...
