NBA · Bynum fizzles... (page 1)

Against Dallas yesterday Bynum had two rebounds in 29 minutes. He dropped in 16 pts but evidently couldn't contain Scott Merritt.

Merrit wasn't the problem. Bynum had to go up against our old buddy Eric Chenowith!

Another guy to put on the All-Layden team.

Tariaf had 26 points and 9 rebounds. Nice pick in the 2nd round for the Lakers. Buth Sasha with only 1 assist. They had high hopes for him but I don't think this guy will ever learn to play the 1.

I am going to cut him the same SL slack that I am giving Frye.

26pts 11rbds for Turiaf, very nice. I really liked him going into the draft. I think all the Taft and Blatche talk aside, he might have been a legit better pick then Lee.

Looks that way, I think maybe some teams had injury concerns with Turiaf?

I think everyone is taking these summerleague stats WAY to seriously. Yeah its nice to see that these guys are producing but cmon lets chill out, the real test will come in the NBA preseason when teams player their real players.

Turiaf was a great player in college though--it's not just summer league.

• Bynum is raw. Intellectually we all knew that, but in person it is much more in-your-face — he shows flashes but, at least to me, it’s tough to see how much potential is under there. But there is potential there — he has 26 points and 11 rebounds through the two games. There are flashes of power and good decision making. The first game he seemed to struggle with the tempo of the NBA game (even at the Summer League level), that was slightly better in the second game. He seems to be thinking more than just playing (“Where do I need to be?” “Am I supposed to rotate out to cover that guy?”). Also, his conditioning needs work, he tired in both games considerably. He also needs to bulk up — he could not hold position on the offensive low block or push players out of the block on defense, in fact smaller players pushed him around. Against Dallas (second game) he ended up guarding former Kansas standout Eric Chenowith (who has been in the NDBL recently) and the experience factor showed — Chenowith easily handled Bynum, scoring inside and out. Bynum did have two blocks in the first game. I should say Bynum looks slimmer than clips I’ve seen of him in the past, my guess is he’s been working on conditioning and now he has to work on putting on muscle. Combine his lack of strength and bad passing from the guards and he had the problem of getting the ball well outside his comfort range — when he did get it in close he got off some good shots. He is long, very long, but at times still seems awkward in his body. He is already strong and when he grows into it he could be a beast. But it’s too early to know much.

Oh I agree with you Ro, Turiaf is the kind of guy that will post these types of games against mediocre talent in NBA summer leagues. I know he's going to be a good player in the NBA, so does everyone else because he was a great player at Gonzaga. I was speaking more in terms of guys like Bynum put up a huge stat lines that almost every player on his team also achieved and people going nuts over it.

its only summerleague...it means nothing! besides Bynum is only 17yrs old and Frye went to college for 4 whole years!

Then hopefully the Knicks can get Bynum after he develops, then him and Frye can become good friends and Frye will use his education help Andy proofread his website...

Nik if you and I can't get him out of this before the season starts, it's going be really rough watching these Knicks games at his house on the bigscreen while seeing posters of Bynum all over the living room wall
