Lakers still should have traded him to compete for another chip with Shaq and another superstar.

seriously, shaq is not that dominant anymore.
YOu think they would have been a lottery team with Shaq last year? I'm sure they could have at least gotten Marbury, Pierce, someone at that level for Kobe. Would a Pierce/Shaq or Marbury/Shaq combo have missed the playoffs last year and be only around .500 this year? Maybe that combo would be less flashy than Kobe but Killa and I are talk about wins not flash.

i never said they would have been a lottery team. shaq and a good wing player is still a good team, but not a championship team. miami isnt going to win the ring with shaq.

who has the 3rd most? D-Rob with 71?
Wilt's had a few in the 70s and some guy named David Thompson once had 73.
David Thompson of NC State he was good don't know what happened to him though. his career ended early I believe
Too much coke.
Maybe stat padding has its place in sports. I was just asking out of curiousity. I'm truly sorry if I offended you Isles. You know that it would break my heart if I offended you.
the people in LA pay to see Kobe

I agree but I think I would've kept Kobe too because having Shaq no longer guarantees a championship anymore. he's not the same player he was. They just have to surround Kobe with the right players

So you're agreeing with me that they would have been a better team by trading Kobe instead of trading Shaq?

If you keep Phil and have a Shaq/Marbury or Shaq/Pierce combo, all you need is to add the right role players. Use the MLE and draft picks wisely and you'll be competing for the title for the next 4 years. If everything works out perfectly with their current team, maybe they'll have the chance to compete for a title for that long a time period but I doubt it. And things never work out perfectly anyway.

I edited it out before i thought anyone saw it, because I didn't want to have the debate. But since you brought it up yes.
At the time Shaq was traded, if they had traded Kobe instead, they could have gotten any of these players for him
+ another player:
Paul Pierce
Vince Carter
T-Mac
AI
Ray Allen
Stephon Marbury
Baron Davis
Richard Jefferson
Keep in mind, the Lakers could have gotten any wing player in the league PLUS another good player for him. When you add that plus Shaq, you have a Lakers team that is on par to compete for another championship for several more years. People do pay to see Kobe, but they would pay for a championship contender just the same OR MORE. If I were the GM I would have traded Kobe and gotten one of those guys plus someone else for him, it just makes good sense all around. They missed the playoffs last year and Shaq was in the ECF. That could have been LA in the WCF instead. The Lakers are very very far from winning a championship.

As incredible as Kobe was, I have to be flat out honest and takes sides with Bonn on this one. Yes, good job by Kobe for keeping it up while he was still there, but Phil let Kobe beat a horse while it was LOOOOOOOONG dead and should have just pulled Kobe out by the time the outcome was determined.
Isles, Kobe accomplished a lot today, no doubt, but Cones and Well's perfect games are far and miles above that, in terms of that. They were FLAWLESS.
I'm with Bonn. Padding stats is not the way i roll and I'm honestly never for a player taking 46 shots a game. It's anti team bball.
Lakers won the game and you can't compare it to baseball
Don't accuse me of it Search up a little more

I guess I'm influenced by the league I've played in for about 5 years now. The rules take sportsmanship very seriously; you're not supposed to rub it in the faces of your opponents. I know my league is not the NBA but I think the same principles of winning like a gentleman and having respect for your opponent should always apply.
[Edited by - Bonn1997 on 01-23-2006 12:33 AM]
The opponents were dead. Stop shooting your dead opponents (With Kobe) and let the rats (The scrubs) take care of the rest. To me, it would have been highly more impressive if it was a close game. It wasn't though. Sorry, I'd still take Timmy D over Kobe any game, as well as KG, Shaq and LeBron.

A Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis, Shaq combo could have won 4 straight titles. Those other players plus Shaq plus one more solid player thrown in a Kobe deal would have been better for the Lakers too. Kobe is a wonderful talent who had a wonderful game. No one is denying that.
Duncan definitely not sure about the others. they don't have Kobe's killer instinct and Shaq isn't the same player and Shaq/Marbury would to lose to the Spurs/Pistons

how do you figure... shaq is surrounded by a better team than that in miami and they arent going to win a ring, let alone 4. i doubt shaq will even be in the league 3 years after this one.

I don't think he's surrounded by a better team in Miami. Wade's awesome but Ray Allen's outside shooting would be a PERFECT compliment to Shaq and Rashard Lewis is light years ahead of whoever Miami's 3rd best player is. Nevertheless, I think they could have won the championship last year if Wade hadn't gotten inured in the playoffs.

good point, if he's not winning it with Wade how is he suppose to win with Marbury/Allen. The Shaq from afew yrs back would definitely win with Wade
