Off Topic · OT: mets lose! (page 2)

you know what, as a met fan, i am not going to make excuses. true, it would have been different if we were totally healthy but the cards were banged up too. we had our opportunities throughout the series and blew it. leaving countless people in scoring position throughout the series is not the pitchers fault especially with the "firepower" we have. however, we have to remember that this is the first playoffs for most of the players dealing with unpredictable circumstances concerning injuries and delays. sure they did well in the season but we played a playoff tested team with a hall of fame manager. they knew what they were doing. so it is good experience and i know that we will have a good offseason and make changes (ramirez and zito?). with that said, i know that i can say that we have a much brighter future than the over the hill overpaid yankees who "choked" the first round. at least we took the cardinals to the limit of the league championship while jeter and rodriguez was home watching the whole thing.

26 Yankee Championship and ya only seen 3-4 of them...please stfu.

Its a shame that New York Yankee fans...so called NEW YORKERS, are actually happy that another NY team lost.

The Mets got out-pitched in this series..plain and simple...BUT it was a nice surprise to see our young picthers (Maine and Perez) hang in there like they did.

Still a yankee town baby!

are you sure about that? The Yankees LOST this town last season...and with the rise of fame of Reyes, Wright and Beltran and the strong pitching farm the Mets have in the minors it'll be a long time before the Yankees take over again.

I guess maybe they can spend another 50-100 million this offseason.
NotFrye @ 10/20/2006 9:45 AM
Lot of haters here. Reads like a red sox forum.

The Yankees are a joke and so are all fans that are truly happy that the mets lost, get off your high horse and cheer for good baseball not that shit that takes place in the Bronx. Sign a max free agent every summer and then still lose in the first round of the playoffs, i love listening to a team that complained about major injuries when they still had a lineup that included, Damon, Jeter, A-Rod, Giambi, and Posada for the entire season......

You have one prospect in your entire system, and your GM continues to make awful move after awful move....

We have three players you would probably interchange for Jeter, A-Rod, and Damon in the long run, and plenty of young arms ready to establish themselves. We were missing our starting left fielder, and two of our best starters, and lost our fifth starter at the beginning of the season, no one wants to cheer for a team with no character that is way overpaid. Your team is old and tired

The Mets had it all this year, no Yankees, a easy trip to the playoffs and they blew it.

* gag: cause to retch or choke
* a valve that controls the flow of air into the carburetor of a gasoline engine

I was a lifetime Yankee fan and I don't much care for baseball anymore, but I will say one thing about the Mets. Losing Pedro, Hernandez and a few others? They sure put up one hell of a fight, like a New York team should do, and they found some more young pitchers. I really think they are going to be a major force for the next couple of years. Go NY! If I was George, I'd get rid of A-Rod, Shef and Giambi. Those guys are losers with a capital "L" !

hey, we got to game 7 of the NLCS without our 2 best playoff pitchers, our best setup man, and our left fielder. we pick up zito this offseason and we're in the WS, legit contenders.

Sorry dude, but Zeto's another loser in important games. Look for someone else.

You got beat by a team that won 83 games, lost Mulder, their closer, Pujuols had a bad hamstring and Rolen played with a bad shoulder. We suck but it will sure be fun getting swept by the Tigers. Go cards

Everything you said. Makes zero sense!

Your right about the teams being banged up. The series could have easily went either way, unfortunately, fate took it's course. Next year is yours.

EnySpree @ 10/21/2006 2:20 AM
Well I'm a yankee fan, and I will root for Any new York team including the nets as soon as Jason kidd retires.

My thing with mets fans throughout the years is that they take the most pleasure watching is suffer. They always have something to say. Its sickening all the met fans that popped up all of a sudden. All they do is talk about the yanks. If anything that is plain disgusting.
Do you know how much hate mail I got via e-mail, texting, myspace? Mets fans are the worse.

If the mets won that is a good reason to celebrate cuz they are a ny team. At the same time the yankee fans don't care. Good for the mets ok, now move on. Mets fans still brag that they beat the yanks cuz the made it to the semi-final. Yay! No rings, no glory.

Same with knick fans and hater. Most NBA fans love to trash the knicks. Even causal fans and people that don't even follow basketball. What the hell is that about?

We still got the jets, giants, rangers, islanders, devils, and knicks playing. Somebody win the chip please!
jazz74 @ 10/21/2006 8:29 AM
to be honest with you, i did not mind the yankees for awhile and actually rooted for them ( loved mattingly, winfield and willie randolph) in the eigthies and partly nineties. it wasn't until interleague play that i started to despise them. the reason? the fans and players. i saw, especially around 98-03 how the yankees players just had the arrogance around the mets especially jeter. that ticked me off. then the yankee fans just bragged and bragged ( and believe me during that time they had a LOT ot brag about), i didn't want to hear it. i almost compared those fans to philly fans with the arrogance and smart comments. so, eny, i feel the same way too, except on the other side of the fence. maybe the giants can do something but i am not holding my breath.

Like Eny said, you deal with a bunch of Met fans that keep telling you all seson how much the Yankees suck etc and how good the Mets are cause they are in 1st place. You deal with a bunch of loser fans that haven't won anything in 20 years and then you tell me to turn the other cheek. Its easy to look the other way when you aren't being taunted.

I'm a Mets fan, I didn't see any Mets fans rubbing it in the Yankees fans faces on this board. So if your motive is revenge, you came to the wrong place.

Furthermore, I find it hilarious that Mets fans are "loser fans that haven't won anything in 20 years". Then what are Knicks fans? Do you really believe that the number of championships your team has won has any type of bearing on who you are? If you do, then you are the loser. Don't get it twisted, all you do is cheer -- if they win championships, be happy -- but don't think it means you are somehow special.

I watch sports for entertainment, I don't take it to heart. When the Mets lost, I was just happy that I got to watch a great team have a great season. I'm not happy with the result, but it's not that serious to me.

It doesn't matter where you say it. Once the rivalry is set, anytime you comment on the other team you speak your mind. I dont see you saying anything when people are talking crap about the Nets when there are no taunting Net fans on ultimateknicks. Are the posters on ultimate in the wrong place? Its very convinient for you to point out this only about the Mets and a pretty weak thing to call me out on.
Furthermore, I find it hilarious that Mets fans are "loser fans that haven't won anything in 20 years". Then what are Knicks fans?
Loser fans. Really, think about it. People ask me why I still bother with the Knicks.
Do you really believe that the number of championships your team has won has any type of bearing on who you are? If you do, then you are the loser.
Wow, thats excellent. Good one man.
Don't get it twisted, all you do is cheer -- if they win championships, be happy -- but don't think it means you are somehow special.
Once again, if you were being taunted by someone thats a Yankee fan, you would know what I am talking about. And if you dont get bothered by that, you are a better man that I. I doubt that after reading your post where you had to get personal to try and get your point across.

If you watch it just for entertainment, you definitely dont know what I am talking about. Ask a diehard fan and they will tell you how much bad losses affect them. I remember the Knicks losing to the Heat in 1996 and being really upset. I remember being really pissed after losing to Detroit this year. I remember being pissed when the Giants lost the superbowl.

Seriously, I was replying in general to someone why I was happy the Mets lost. That reply talked about the Met fans that were happy when the Yankees lost. I didnt get personal with anyone. When I said "loser fans" I meant they were rooting for a losing team. If that didn't translate, it shouldnt matter to you since you didnt taunt and tease a Yankee fan when they lost.

Happy about a good season? Please! Stop being naive. Fans can be passionate about the team they root for you know and the same applies to a rival team losing. I wonder if you as a Knick fan were happy when Pat Riely and Tim Hardaway's Heat lost to the Bulls after beating the Knicks in the brawl? If not, you have no clue where I am coming from so stop judging me or calling me a loser. I answered to another poster asking us why we were happy. If you cant see that, there is nothing I can do about your bruised feelings.

Judging by the length and passion of your reply, I think you are the one with the bruised feelings. I'm sorry, Silver -- I meant nothing personal.

Maybe you should stop underestimating your own team. Your 'sucky' Cardinals are holding their own against the 'mighty' Tigers and could be on the verge of taking a 2-1 Series lead. Obviously, the Mets got beat by a team far better than their 83-win season indicates... especially since the Cards weren't healthy, for the most part, until October. The Cards had all season to replace Mulder-- who wasn't that effective anyway-- and a good, young pitcher (Wainwright) to replace your closer.

The Mets lost two front-line starters one week before the playoffs began - hell, El Duque went down 1 DAY before the NLDS - and the Mets had no time to recover. Plus they were missing a lefty power bat, Cliff Floyd, who would've offered the struggling Wright some protection in the lineup. As promising a future as Wright has, he's 23, and experienced post-season pressure for the first time. He didn't respond well. By contrast, the Cards have some vets who've been here before-- 2005, 2004, 2002, 2001. It makes a difference.

Can't deny that the Mets failed to hit when it counted - but sometimes, you have to tip your hat to great pitching. Just like the Yankees and Tigers. Or like the Reds had to in 1973 when the 82-79 Mets knocked them off in the NLCS and took a superior Oakland team to 7 in the Series.

Both NY teams had great regular seasons that most teams would kill to have. The Yanks got beat by a younger, hungrier team who pitched them aggressively and confidently. The Mets got beat by an experienced team that was more opportunistic. Nothing to be ashamed of for either team. Well, A-Rod maybe. ;)

nyballer @ 10/25/2006 1:23 AM
hey i have a question - if the mets fans are the ones that celebrate the yankees losing, how come a yankee fan started a thread with the title "mets lose!" - i don't see any mets fans starting celebratory threads when the yankees lost.

and the tigers don't look so good after all - maybe the AL/NL disparity is a little blown out of proportion?
Solace @ 10/25/2006 9:15 AM
I think any crap Mets fans take after losing is well justified. Why? Because this is a team where the fans get more enjoyment out of the Yankees losing than their own team winning.

I'm a Yankees fan, and I was actually rooting for the Mets to win it all, once the Yankees were out, but I was rooting against their fans. They have the second most annoying fans in baseball (Red Sux are first), but their team is fun to watch and it would've been nice to see a NY team win.
