now they're saying the yanks are going to LOWER their offer to pettitte.
I think the TMS -BONN war of words is the best I've ever seen.

i don't understand the Yankees' strategy here... Andy is the perfect stopgap solution to have... he's reliable, he's durable, he's a lefty, he's experienced, he's NY tested, he's a leader... he's a perfect back end of the rotation solution... just throw an extra $2 mil onto that contract & get er done... or toss in some incentives & an extra option year clause that Andy can make effective if he reaches certain milestones this season... it's a low risk to take... Andy belongs in pinstripes next year, & this is not simply sentimentality working here... Phil Hughes is not a reliable option as yet, he has to prove himself first... AJB is a high injury risk & so is CMW... Joba has yet to prove himself as a starter either... we need a veteran who we can pencil in for 200 innings next year to go along w/CC Sabathia... Yankees hedging on a couple extra mil after they just spent enough to buy a small country this offseason? ridiculous.
Andy is being just plain stupid by declining 10million. At this point I'm ready to move on and let Hughes fill the 5th spot in the rotation.
i think he can get probably get a 2 year offer from other teams looking for pitching if he wants to pitch... a team like the Cubs or even the Dodgers would probably be interested in bringing him in on a deal like that... Cubs just lost Jason Marquis & the Dodgers are going to lose Lowe, Penny & Maddux this offseason... i think the Yankees are being a little stingy here w/a guy who's been a stalwart in the rotation almost every year he's worn the pinstripes.

Both sides are being just plain stupid right now.
For Andy his ego is clouding his own common sense. He is getting older, his pitches is not what it once was. He is at best like a little better than a .500 pitcher. But it also amaze me how they can shell out all that money but nick pick on 6million
just put in some incentives on a $12 mil deal... reach 15 wins & u get a $3 mil bonus, which will raise the value of the contract to $15 mil... i mean come on, we paid Roger Clemens $18.5 mil guaranteed for half a season & he was mediocre that season... they can't show any love to Andy who's been 1 of the best lefty pitchers in our franchise's history? it's not like he's washed up either... he's still an effective pitcher for the back end of the rotation.
Andy is an old shoe. Throw it away. Besides, he used steroids. I have 'ZERO' tolerance for cheaters.
i think he's still got another good 2 years in him at the very least... we signed a 36 yo Jorge Posada to a 4 year guaranteed deal last year... signing 36 yo Andy to a 1 year deal w/incentives now is low risk.
as for the cheating part, i respect u having zero tolerance for cheats, but realistically i bet u at least half the league has used roids at some point or another... just cuz they haven't been fingered yet in the Mitchell Report doesn't mean there aren't plenty more out there, probably several more on the Yankees team just like there are on every other team that u don't even know about... it's a sad reality of the times but it is what it is.
Red Sux just signed Rocco Baldelli to a 1 year deal... about to sign John Smoltz to a 1 year deal.
They'll both come pretty cheap and have the potential to be outstanding deals. Cash has done a lot this off-season but he still has to do something to improve CF and the 5th starting spot even if it's just minor moves.
why don't we give a shot on Scott Podsednik. He can be the type of player to move the runners over and he has some speed out there

because Brett Gardner's the same kind of player pretty much & much younger besides... if anything signing Baldelli to a 1 year deal would have made sense since he's only a part time player solution anyway, & as a righty batter in CF would have been a good platoon solution w/Gardner, but maybe they still wanna see if Melky can be the answer out there, who knows... my guess is they're still looking at trade options for CF as we speak... David DeJesus has been mentioned some in rumors w/the Royals, but they always ask for the moon whenever they discuss trades w/us so i don't expect anything to get done there... Nate McClouth has also been talked about but i doubt PIT would give him up either... i think Cashman's only looking for a stopgap solution in CF since we have Austin Jackson coming up in a year or 2.

Do you think Brett Gardner has a chance to beat out Melky for center? Do you think Melky will have a better year as well as Cano
i think those 2 kids will be platooned all year... both bring some nice things to the table
Gardner has elite speed on the basepaths & awesome range in CF... his arm's pretty average to below average tho, & he has no pop at all in his bat, but he is very patient at the plate & can get on base by drawing walks... he's a perfect guy to play some small ball with cuz he's also an excellent bunter as well... i think if he stays healthy, in a part time role he'll put up somewhere around .250-.270 BA & steal you about 20-30 bases... if he plays fulltime he can easily steal u at least 50 bases, he has that type of speed, only question is will he get the AB's to get on base... i doubt it.
Melky's got an elite arm in CF, his range is pretty good, not excellent... just average speed on the bases & has a little pop in his bat if he gets into 1, but i've noticed it looks like he's actively trying to hit HR's instead of just making contact w/the ball & i think that's upset the Yankees coaches about him... if he gets back to trying to drive the ball into the gaps & hitting doubles instead of trying to hit HR's everytime he's up at bat, i think he can have a solid year for us in a part time role, say around .270-.290 BA w/7-10 HRs & 50-65 RBI.
combined these kids won't give us even close to top notch production in CF offensively, but w/the addition of Mark T & Nick Swisher & the return of both Jorge & Matsui to the lineup, we should be fine offensively... all we need those 2 kids to do is play defense in CF & not be an automatic out in the #9 hole.
Cano i think is gonna have a bounceback year... i think last year was the exception for him & not the norm... that guy's gonna hit .320+ this season & hit for more power IMO.

Where's Swisher playing? He's probably gonna see almost no time at 1st base.

swisher or nady will get dealt.
Swisher might even see some playing time in CF, or in LF if Damon is used in CF during some games... Nady is gonna be our starting RFer in all likelihood... if i were Cashman i would go into Spring Training w/both Swish & Nady on the roster & see how everything pans out... u never know who might get injured & having depth is never a bad thing... if everyone is healthy to start the season then u can look into trade options using either Nady or Swisher as trade bait, but i hope we keep both of them cuz Swisher provides a lot of flexibility for Girardi to use cuz he plays multiple positions & he's a power hitting switch hitter
I see swisher being in the role like Luis Soho. Just fill in a spot when they need someone to get a day off. As long as he doesn't trip when moving side to side like luis did
