Disgusting. Sabathia now Wang. AND the offense isn't doing anything yet. Terrible. Have a funny feeling Burnett's gonna throw a gem tommorrow though...

I'm not worried either but I think when you put a ton of high priced FAs together, anything can happen. I expect them to do a lot better than last year but I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't.
'98 Yanks got off to a bad start too. Heck, most of the Yanks teams in the recent times have been off to bad starts.
They are winning 3-1 now.
I think we're relying too much on the HR ball though. When can we ever just mix it up?
i seriously wanna trade that emotionless piece of crap Xavier Nady & just play Nick Swisher fulltime in RF... he's a switch hitter w/just as much pop in his bat as Nady & he gets on base at a good clip... love the energy & enthusiasm he brings to the games

sure say that now after he hits a homerun today...
yeah but seriously i've never liked Xavier Nady... feel free to read up on the threads when we made the trade of Tabata to get that guy... & i've been saying for the longest that this team needs some more rah rah type personalities & Swisher definitely seems to fit the bill.

not a gem so far but a very solid outing.... got out of a bases loaded jam w/a strikeout & pumped his fist like Joba... he's already growing on me, seems like a no nonsense type of guy w/an old school type mentality... i like the fact he said it's all about the World Series for him just like Jeter said, & that personal stats don't mean anything unless they accomplish that goal.

swisher is good b/c he's utility - you can stick him in the outfield, he can play 3rd and 1st if needed so other guys get a break.
when ARod comes back Ransom becomes the utility guy... i would rather have Swisher starting than Nady... gives Girardi more versatility w/his switch hitting in the lineup & it's not like Nady's some kinda defensive gold glover out in RF too, so we don't lose anything there.

fair reasoning - makes sense to me.
interesting that they put Pena in at short in late innings
Jeter's been on fire though. Gotta give it up to the guy.
Real Yankee question marks have been answered in the affirmative...
- Jeter's age/leadoff
- Posada's health
- Cano's head
- bench depth
Its the sure things (CC/Wang/ARod) that have to come around
Yanks about to win, but I guess you never know. Don't have time to watch the bottom of the 9th. Nice job by Burnett to stop the bleeding, and good job by Tex today.

Going from Abreu to Nady/Swisher was a BIG downgrade
defensively Abreu's better because of his arm, but his range isn't all that great either... he's pretty clumsy going back to the wall on balls hit over his head too... i'd put him on a par w/Nady & Swisher defensively other than his throwing arm... we still have Melky on the bench so he'll be a nice late innings fill in defensively in games we hold a lead.
offensively Abreu gives u good basestealing ability & gets on base at a better clip... obviously way early to judge how he'll do this year but he's been struggling in his 1st 3 games w/the Halos.
Swisher had a great game today... 5 rbi's & really added some life to this lifeless lineup today... i'm sure he's gonna have his struggles too but u can't help but like the way this guy seems to have fun playing this game... we really needed some of that in this lockerroom that's grown so damn cold, stale & boring over the years.

nady and matsui are both in the last years of their contracts, correct? swisher seems to bring the right intangibles to the team -- everybody seems to like him, every article i read talks about how he's great for the clubhouse, and he swings a good stick. nady is a weird player, doesnt seem like he really gives a damn, and matsui i like but he's getting up there in age.
nice to see some solid innings out of AJ. he's got some filthy stuff. i'm interested to see if pettitte can give us another 200 IP this year. man i love baseball season.
i think Nady's just a calm guy personality wise but this team has too many of those types, they need someone to get guys pumped up a little in the clubhouse & Swish brings that element... remember our dynasty teams had some real fiery personalities in the dugout between Leyritz, Paulie, Tino, Rocket, Boomer & Wetteland (& even Zim)... right now there isn't 1 guy in the Yankee dugout that tries to pump up his teammates other than Joba... Swish adds a nice balance to the usual bland, calm & professional approach that the rest of these guys like to take.
