i don't know WTF people were making a big deal out of Swisher having a little fun on the mound... i mean come on, that's not meant to show up anyone, especially some scrub like Gabe Kapler... puhleaze, can people relax a little? we were the ones getting our butts kicked that game, not the Rays... i love what David Cone was saying during the play by play... the Rays had NO BEEF! thank you David for spittin' some damn truth in the booth... STFU Michael Kay, u never even played the game, WTF do u know about what's cool & what isn't cool about how guys conduct themselves on the field? u'r a fan of the game, not an ex player, stop pretending like u know something.

... we had Swisher pitching out of necessity & he was good enough to take 1 for the team & having a little fun with it in the process... what's the problem? Jorge Posada needs to relax a little... OK, fine, he didn't find anything funny about it losing 15-5, i'm pretty damn sure Swisher didn't either... does Jorge really think Swisher wanted to be on the mound that night? sheesh... this is what i'm talking about, all these guys w/sticks up their butts in this clubhouse for the longest time... it's nice to have someone like Swisher around who reminds guys that baseball is supposed to be fun.

Nady Injury: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story...

Melky will see more playing time now... just as well, he's a big defensive upgrade over Nady & we don't really need Nady's bat in the lineup once ARod returns... Swisher's doing GREAT! u can't mess w/him in the starting lineup, & we have to get Damon & Matsui AB's too... this may be a blessing in disguise... hopefully Nady will be back before the trading deadline so we can unload him for something.
GKFv2 @ 4/15/2009 6:02 PM
Nady is gonna be out for the year dude. It's not a blessing. It killed out depth. That sucks. I liked Nady too. Oh well. We gotta hope Nick Swisher will be a suitable as a year-long replacement.
TMS @ 4/15/2009 6:32 PM
Nady's no big loss.
GKFv2 @ 4/15/2009 7:27 PM
It's a big loss. Thinking otherwise is incredibly short-sighted.

It hurts a little, but I think Swisher would've beaten him out anyway. Where it hurts is that Matsui and Damon will probably hit the 15 day DL at least once or twice and he would've made a difference then. The Yanks do have Melky Cabrera to take that place and he seems to have some renewed motivation right now.

Great to see Jeter come through in the clutch again today.
djsunyc @ 4/15/2009 7:33 PM
if we can get solid pitching like this 4 out of every 5 games, we're gonna be alright...

that's your opinion if u think it's short sighted... IMO it's no big loss cuz we got plenty of depth in the OF Austin Jackson waiting in the wings to be called up along w/Swisher, Damon, Gardner & Melky on the active roster already... when ARod comes back Cody Ransom will also become a utility guy on the bench... Nady was surplus who's got a solid bat but his defense is average at best... Swisher gives Joe G much more flexibility in the lineup being a switch hitter & he's on fire right now... losing Nady will only hurt if Swisher goes down (knock on wood), but even then we still have enough depth to fill in spots in the OF in an emergency situation.

It's not like losing Rivera but I'd definitely say it's a significant loss. Now we cannot afford to lose or even to rest any outfielders. Yeah, Cabrera is a better fielder than Nady but not to such an extent as to make up for an almost 200 point OPS difference last year or 100 point career difference.

definitely shades of the good ol days w/Andy giving us a workman's effort start, Jeter coming through w/the clutch hit, & Mariano closing it out like he always does.
djsunyc @ 4/15/2009 8:14 PM
i'm a little worried about mo - he used 8 pitches in the 9th. that's way too many.

and bruney is doing his best mariano impersonation...
TMS @ 4/15/2009 9:34 PM
Bruney's friggin' throwing laser beams the past couple games

was gonna post that myself. guy looking fantastic the last few games. lights out. like dj said, mo's gotta be a bit more efficient in the 9th - he aint no baby anymore and every saved pitch helps his longevity.

What did he do? I missed that part of the game.

orangeblobman @ 4/16/2009 12:22 PM
He pitched an inning, man! Had a strike out, too!

No, I knew that but "having a little fun" made it sound to me like he did something inappropriate while on the mound. Maybe I just misunderstood his post though.

Hughes is not the guy u want waiting for long relief stints... he needs regular innings on regular rest... we will probably be calling up Aceves or Tomko... Hughes will only be called up to make a start in place of 1 of our other starters probably.

I was talking about him starting, no long relief. If Wang continues to pitch like this, then it's going to be an automatic loss every 5 games and every 5 games, we have to waste our bullpen. Maybe we bring Hughes up and show Wang that him starting is not an automatic anymore. Maybe it's time we give Hughes the shot anyway, and see if last year was a fluke.

yeah if Wang struggles again in another start i wouldn't be surprised if they sent him down to Tampa to work out his problems & give Hughes a shot in the rotation.

Not sure why he'd get another start at this point. It's looking like he needs some time in the minors to fully come back from his injury. We have another capable starter, so why not promote Hughes until Wang's 100%?
It probably depends on whether they think they've made progress correcting the problems between starts (if the problems are simply mechanics). Matsui's had just as awful a start, BTW.
Bonn1997 @ 4/16/2009 3:02 PM
Let's get CC one more run so he can be the winning pitcher. At 105 pitches, I don't think he'll come out to pitch the 6th. He was pretty inefficient today.
djsunyc @ 4/16/2009 3:51 PM
f'n veras...
