i really like Aceves in the bullpen as the long man in the Ramiro Mendoza role... he can give us quality spot starts in a pinch & pitch multiple innings in relief... as soon as Bruney comes back i'd move Veras back to AAA to let him work out his issues, cuz his control has been horrendous this season... his stuff is still good so u can't give up on him just yet... i think some time in AAA will do him some good.

btw, anyone remember who got the boot from the 40 man to make room for Tomko on the roster?

Teixieria's batting .367 w/ARod in the lineup.

I think Eric Hacker and later they also DFA'd Steven Jackson to make room for Cash. BTW, they got this guy for Hacker today:

He's quite a fatty but throws hard. He may figure into the bullpen at some point this year.

Hacker was a waste anyway, i'm glad they finally got around to doing it... i would've liked to see Zachary Kroenke called up instead of Tomko but i guess they wanna let him develop more in AAA... Casey Fossum might be an option down the road if Coke starts to struggle or Marte can't come back from his injury soon enough... & Kontos could be a spot call up if Veras keeps sucking it up & Bruney has another set back.

Teixieria's batting .367 w/ARod in the lineup.

And A-Rod's batting .154 with Tex in the lineup! I think it's just more of a confidence thing knowing A-Rod is behind you. If A-Rod is fully healthy, I'm sure he'll get his production up. I don't know what kind of recovery to expect from this hip surgery though.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic about this team. We need a 5th starter though. Getting a 4.00 or better ERA from Wang the rest of the year would be magnificent.

Yankees bats are asleep against Kevin Slowey today....gonna need some more late inning heroics.

AJ's good outing going to waste here as he struggles through the 7th
Bonn1997 @ 5/17/2009 3:08 PM
AJ had six strong innings but he's really missing his target now.
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:08 PM
F'ing cash can't block the plate and now Burnett is really deep in it...

Cash is a Boston reject... figures... Cervelli is a much better Catcher, i don't understand why Girardi's even bothering w/this platoon situation.

Those pitches were VERY far off the target. This tough inning is AJ's creation.
Bonn1997 @ 5/17/2009 3:12 PM
They left him in at least one batter too long. He's clearly losing it.
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:21 PM
ARod murders one to left and cuts the lead to 1!
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:23 PM
Matsui with a solidly hit double now and the Yankee bats are finally waking up vs. Slowey!

He was throwing balls in the dirt but if it bounces off a catchers body they've got to keep in front of them. Cash also lost track of the ball.

Swisher with the sac bunt gets Matsui to third...don't love doing that with your power hitters when you're still losing, but Swish clearly has been struggling and it was a good play.....
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:26 PM
Awful throw by Span and the Yankees tie it!
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:33 PM
See now this is where Alby struggles- starting the inning, bases empty. His ERA is over 8 in these situations. When he comes in with runners on he pitchers far better.
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:40 PM
Is this really the situation for Brett Tomko?

I guess we have no choice...
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:44 PM
Phenomenal play at first by Teixiera!
VDesai @ 5/17/2009 3:46 PM
Tomko escapes!
Bonn1997 @ 5/17/2009 3:48 PM
Despite his offensive struggles, Tex has been OUTSTANDING in the field. And I do believe that as long as he's healthy, he'll be fine on offense. I still like the Tex signing very much.
