Swisher's in an awful slump, but he's far from the worst. He still gets on base regularly and has some power. Plus he's a good relief pitcher.

Yeah, seriously. Once you stop looking at batting average, his overall production for the season is very solid. If you look at his on-base and slugging % combination (OPS), his production this season has been much better than Jeter's of this or last season. No doubt he is in a recent slump though. Players hit slumps. It happens.

btw, is nick swisher the worst everyday player in the AL (non catcher)?
Believe it or not, I've heard rumblings that the Tigers are possibly looking into cutting Magglio Ordonez because of his contract...
well the redsox did put manny on waivers a few years ago...
i definitely am in favor of letting nady and matsui walk. if damon wants to sign a 2 yr deal with a team option on the 2nd yr, i'd let him come back and be a DH/4th OF, no way i sign him any longer.

That's a ton of offense you're gonna have to replace though. Or you'll have to be willing to tolerate probably about 1 less run per game than this season.
A ton? By letting Matsui, who isn't doing that much and Nady (Done nothing) go? I think they are quite replaceable.
the lineup does have some long term question marks. hopefully we can sign some younger players or some of our guys develop...
quick question:
who would be the top 5 players you would start a baseball team with?

nah, don't get it twisted.. they want to straight out cut him so they dont have to worry about paying his salary anymore.

Well the goal is that they'd release him and then another team would pick him up. You don't have to waive him.
the same way the Tigers released Sheffield.

i thought any player released as to through 2 days of waivers first to see if anybody picks him (and the contract) up. then if he clears, the team can DFA him.

Sorry DJ.. yeah you do. I don't think he'll have any suitors at his gigantic salary, which is why he'll pass through then a team can sign him for the Vet minimum.

having david wright as a top 5 player to build a team with is just idiotic...and what if it was an NL team. no dh there. it's almost like a woman made that post.

Matsui's got an .850 OPS. That's almost 100 points above the league average. Note also that the comment was regarding Damon and Matsui. Nady was not in the discussion.
I think you're underrating pitching, DJ, assuming the goal is to go deep in the playoffs and win WSs.
If we're talking long-term, then
Johan
CC
F-Rod (huge steal by the Mets)
Pujols
David Wright
If you're talking about winning right now (rather than long-term), Roy Halladay has to be on th elist. You could take anyone other than Johan off and replace them with Halladay in that case.
