He goes by the first name Slade- I just posted some stuff about him in the draft thread.

Never wanted a thing to do with Burnett and theres was good reason for it.

That performance as a follow up to his last Red Sox one is just unforgivable.

he coulda pitched a gem & still lost tonight... we couldn't even touch Beckett all night... pretty pathetic performance all around.

I haven't given up on AJ but it's been a bad season for him so far

I agree but a better pitching performance instead of coughing up homeruns right out of the gate maybe not as demoralizing to his teammates. They spotted the guy with a big lead last time and he stunk up the joint.

And it wouldn't have used up a lot of our bullpen (the day before Wang starts!)

Yeah but he sucked just like he's sucked the rest of the season. He coulda atleast kept the team in the game for 5, I mean I woulda been happy with him exiting after 5 with the score 3-0, but he was just deplorable.

I called BS on that whole "he pitches great against the AL East" thing offseason. So what, he sucked against everyone else and was bound to come back to Earth. 90 million wasted.
nyk4ever @ 6/10/2009 1:14 PM
By the way.. DJ, that Sox bullpen completely shut us down last night. COMPLETELY and that wasn't even Oki, Paps and Masterson.

We have a mediocre pen. It is a serious shortcoming. They have *the best* bullpen I have seen in a long time.

Also, if he'd pitched well an simply lost 2-0 or something like that, there would be more cause for optimism about him. But we're about 60 games into the season and his ERA is near 5.

i agree w/u, it may have changed things if he'd been able to keep the game close... i'm not trying to make excuses for him, i already said it was a pathetic performance from the entire team all around... the starting pitching stunk & our offense couldn't manage anything more than a measly 2 hits against Boston's pitching... hopefully we'll have a different result tonight... we can't continue to allow this Boston team to own us the way they have all year.

& i dunno what anyone's complaining about w/the bullpen, they weren't the problem last night... Tomko & Veras were filling innings because AJ stunk it up early & anyone who thinks the bullpen was "used up" last night needs to get a clue... we still have all our main guns ready to pitch tonight in Hughes, Aceves, Coke & Mo.

as for $90 million being wasted on AJB, i think it's a little early to make that conclusion... i was iffy on the signing too, but i'm not gonna jump to any conclusions just yet... so far he hasn't lived up to his expectations but we're not even at the halfway point in the season... still time for him to turn things around... Teixeira was looking pretty pathetic for a while there too until he finally woke TF up, let's see if AJ can do the same.
Allanfan20 @ 6/10/2009 2:08 PM
I'm sick of Girardi making excuses for the team.
Bonn1997 @ 6/10/2009 2:34 PM
No one complaining about the bullpen on the team was citing last night as their evidence

There were no good options, though. They weren't gonna make the same mistake 2 years in a row and have a $180 mil team--going into a new, expensive stadium--with a bunch of kids in the starting rotation. Cashman and the Steinbrenners tried to buy their way in one off-season out of years of under-emphasizing starting pitching (while over-emphasizing offense). It may still work well enough to win a WS, though. They have the luxury to make many more mistakes than any other team.

Wang looks like a shaken man with no confidence. The part of me that's not pissed at him actually feels sorry for him.
Bonn1997 @ 6/10/2009 8:13 PM
Wang should not throw another pitch tonight. I don't get why they're leaving him in. We're just blowing our chances of coming back.
GKFv2 @ 6/10/2009 8:14 PM
Wang sucks. Leave him in the pen and have Hughes start.

The thing is, I don't trust him in a big moment in the 'pen either. He'd basically be a mop-up guy until/unless he gets it together.
TMS @ 6/10/2009 9:18 PM
3 runs back w/3 more ups to go... still a ways from being over.
MaTT4281 @ 6/10/2009 9:25 PM
These last two nights have been painful. Can we get some relief in the final 3 innings?
MaTT4281 @ 6/10/2009 9:28 PM
...that will work.

Thank you Johnny!
