He's a .770 left-handed hitting OPS guy. In Yankees' stadium, he'll probably put up an .820 OPS. Good acquisition, although I don't know anything about the minor league pitcher we gave up.

I read we gave up two, neither of which I've heard of either
in exchange for minor leaguer right-handed pitcher Casey Erickson and minor league outfielder Eric Fryer.
Anyone here who follows our farm system closely have some info. on these guys? That's crucial to evaluating this trade.
yankees comeback ability is awesome!!!
mariano = greatness...
and the redsox blew a 10-1 lead in the 8th, o's leading 11-10!!!

Boston's really an ordinary team when they're not playing the Yankees.
Hughes is downright FILTHY right now. He needs to get a bigger role out of the pen or he needs to be back in the rotation. He is outstanding right now.
vdesai - it's PHILTHY...
looks like he might be used alot more frequently in the pen...
too early to re-visit melky + hughes + kennedy for johan?
melky is senor clutch and hughes is looking philthy...
Johan's in a slump but still on pace for another 20 win season. Hughes looks like a very good set-up man. If Hughes or Kennedy becomes a perennial Cy Young candidate, I'll eat my words.
don't really follow the yanks except through this thread lol... what's Kennedy up to these days?
Last I heard he had an aneurysm (sp?) and was out indefinitely.
last 9 starts, johan has a 5.4 era...

DJ continues his policy of looking for the smallest, least reliable sample he can find
Oh and there is NOTHING Phil Hughes can do as a mid-reliever that warrants passing on Johan. Hughes is gonna have to prove his worth as a starter.

If Joba continues to not improve from consistently pitching 5 inning games, we're going to have to switch the two.
btw, props to SNY. as soon as the starter is taken out of the game, they have their roving reporter (kevin burkhardt) talk to the pitcher before he goes back to the locker room. nice.
do you think joba can go back to throwing 98 in the pen?
the kid is learning how to pitch at the big league level. look at halladay's #'s his first few years.
joba's 4-0 2.7 era on the road. tells me the guy knows how to pitch. keep him in the starting rotation and let him develop.
hughes wasn't a starter for the team coming into this season. he got a few starts b/c of wang's problems. you let wang work it out, let joba develop and hughes will be a full time starter next season to replace andy.

still too early... Hughes still has to prove something in the majors... Melky's looking to be a very solid player tho... who knows what Kennedy will turn out to be... if Johan continues to decline tho then i'll say u have a much better case.

Joba looked very good as a starter last season and has looked good on the road as a starter this season. You can't switch his role every few months. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of switching him to the bullpen this season.
