Not sure how I feel about this... After getting his OBP up to pretty good numbers for 2 seasons, Granderson took a huge step back this past year. He's too focused on his hitting hr's, this guy should be lining doubles/triples in the gaps every single time up, not focused on hitting it out of the park.

Yankees, Tigers, D-Backs Talking Blockbuster
8th December, 2009 - 2:11 am
MLB.com - The Yankees, Tigers and D-backs discussed late Monday what would be a blockbuster three-team deal involving outfielder Curtis Granderson and right-hander's Max Scherzer and Edwin Jackson, according to a FOXsports.com report. While it appeared the negotiations reached an impasse, there were indications that the talks were ongoing and could resume Tuesday.
Tigers president/general manager Dave Dombrowski declined to comment on the report specifically and instead said, "There's all sorts of rumors, but don't believe everything you read."
If the deal were to go through, according to the report, the Yankees would get Granderson from the Tigers and a pair of prospects from the D-backs.
The Tigers, meanwhile, would receive Scherzer from the D-backs along with outfielder Austin Jackson and left-handed pitchers Phil Coke and Michael Dunn from the Yankees.
The D-backs would get Jackson from the Tigers and right-hander Ian Kennedy from the Yankees.
I'd love to have Granderson, but man Jackson+Coke+Kennedy+Dunn is a huge cost. Dunn is basically Coke's closest replacement. I know Marte pitched well in the playoffs but I think Coke could gonna develop into a top lefty reliever with some more experience and it would be a short term hit in the bullpen. I'm willing to give up Jackson and Kennedy for him, but we have to be careful with the throw ins.
The Jackson/Scherezer side of it seems pretty strange. A lateral swap at best.
Hearing that Bruney got traded for some "player to be named later" pissed me off yesterday when I heard it on the fan...But reading in Newsday this morning that it's actually for the #1 pick in the rule 5 draft (the Nats have the #1 pick)...I feel a little differently about the deal now. We'll have to see...There are plenty of good young players not protected on their teams' 40 man rosters out there (we have quite a few ourselves)...We'll be getting the 1st pick out of the lot. The Nats will be picking for us. Nice little move by Cash - he and his guys probably already have their eyes zeroed in on an unprotected player somewhere I'm sure. Yanks do their homework on young guys now...
i have a feeling the Yanks are just putting the pressure on Damon to sign... i don't see them giving up 4 prospects for Curtis Granderson... maybe i'm off on this but my guess is they'll keep their prospects for a possible deal for Halladay if anything.
heyman says the deal has been agreed to - only physicals remain:
Austin Jackson, Coke, Scherzer, and Schlereth to the Tigers, Edwin Jackson and Kennedy to the D'Backs, and Granderson to the Yankees.

I'd rather keep Damon over getting Granderson for sure. Aside from the decline in overall stats this year, Grandersons defense the past few years has been atrocious at best.
granderson in center - sign crawford next offseason and you have 2 guys that can play defense, run the basepaths and hit for power. i can see what they are thinking long term.

i think you put granderson in our lineup, w/ kevin long and he will be better than he was a few years ago...

that is way too much to give up for Granderson if u ask me... Jackson, Coke & a lower level prospect i give up at most... if that's the deal i'd rather just keep the D'Backs out of it & get Edwin Jackson in the deal for our 4 prospects... Damon is a proven commodity in NY & the fans love him... he's a clutch hitter in big games & he thrives on the big stage... if we make this trade for Granderson i hope Matsui somehow agrees to a 1 year deal to stay on as our DH, but i doubt he will.
like finestrg said, i think if this deal goes down, it's b/c cash money has something else lined up for some prospects.
the way i see it, you can't expect swisher to produce like he did last year and melky/gardner are a nice combo but we still need an upgrade at the cf spot. and if we can't sign damon, we still could move melky/gardner to left with granderson in center for next season.
I'm not a huge fan of Granderson. DJ, I think you're right that Granderson will hit better in this lineup, which is obviously a plus, but honestly his defense has been horrible the past few years. It appeared to me that this year he was just trying to hit HRs as well and him playing in Yankee stadium probably wont help him any.
I'm just not a huge Granderson fan, I'm not opposed to the deal but I'm not really for it either.
i think they made a decision to go with speed and upgrade the centerfield spot. i also think they may be actively shopping melky/brett too. we need an upgrade in the outfield and he's an outfielder. i think he's gonna fit in great with our lineup. the question tho, will always remain whether or not he can play in new york...but seeing how he handles himself infront of the camera, i think he can.
Great deal and he has a swing that is made for the stadium. If the stadium helped Damon, it will help Granderson even more. I also like that he can hit in a number of spots in our lineup and puts much less pressure on us to sign Damon or Matsui. Coke could be tough to replace in the pen unless we make some additional moves...
i like this deal. granderson is going to hit 35 homers in the wind tunnel, plus he's a doubles machine and gives us great speed in center and on the base paths. echoing somebody else's comments, i think ca$h money has more tricks up his sleeve, this is probably just the first. i'd love to bring damon back but if boras is asking for 4 years at the same money i'd tell them both to go F themselves. this also gives cashman some leverage in those negotiations. granderson in the 2 spot in this lineup is very solid in my opinion.
if Cash can still re-sign Damon i'm much better w/this trade... having Damon as the DH & as a 4th OF option in place of Gardner is fine w/me.

I think this deal increases their ability to bring Damon back. Boras has to be a tad more sensible now, as the Yankees don't necessarily need Damon back. i also doubt who is going to pay him the money they're asking (boras wants essentialy the same contract damon got 4 yrs ago from what i can gather).
If you bring Damon back, you keep him at 2 and move Granderson down to 5th or 6th in the lineup?
Jeter SS (R)
Damon DH (L)
Tex 1B (S)
Arod 3B (R)
Granderson CF (L)
Posada C (S)
Cano 2B (L)
Swisher LF (S)
Cabrera RF (L)
that lineup would absolutely mash, not to mention granderson's speed in CF plus cabrera's arm moving to right are major upgrades. gardner is still on the bench as a pinch runner/late inning defensive replacement for swisher. love that.
are the yankees bringing hairston back? i really like his ability to play multiple infield positions, he's like a new age version of randy velarde, perfect for giving off DJ and arod days off as they get older.
love the move.
Garners speed has been huge for the Yanks this season. His bat aside from his bunting is another story. Next to jeter hes my sons favorite player so I'd hate for him to go :p
As far as the new Guy? He'd bring the speed and pop Yanks need to upgrade the everyday guys. I like the deal but what about this Jackson kid froM the farm. Isn't he supposed to be Jesus Christ himself?

well...the risk/reward is will austin jackson be as good as granderson in his prime?
and if he is, we'll sign him as a free agent then :)
granderson this winter - crawford next winter and you got blistering speed for tex/arod to bring in...

that's the lineup i'd hope to see next year too... we'll see if Damon & Boras come back down to Earth w/their contract demands... if not, then i'd go after Jermaine Dye on a 1 year deal to add some righty pop to our lineup & be our DH... we seem to be a bit lefty heavy & we do have to play half our games outside YS this year.
OT: Figgins to the M's 4 yrs $36 mil
