I see we have a deal in place for Russell Martine, pending a physical. Whew, and I thought we weren't going to make any big moves!

well, at least he didn't re-sign Javy & Lance Berkman... there's always a silver lining.
Jorge is going to be a full-time DH
Don't laugh but supposedly we signed Mark Prior

TAKE THAT BOSTON!

I thought he fell off the face of the planet. Why is this a big deal. He USED to be good, unless he's secretly got himself back to being good?

Loser.
there's two ways to look at the Prior signing. H20fan hit on the first. Second is that he hasn't pitched since 2006 and maybe his body is fully recovered.
I'm goin with th first: Jonathon Bender Pt II
Report: Yanks could pursue Carlos Zambrano
The New York Daily News' Bill Madden expects the Yankees to target Carlos Zambrano via trade.
It would be an interesting fit, putting Big Z and his fieriness under the spotlight in New York. He would be reunited with former Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild, who is now with the Yankees. Zambrano, who has a full no-trade clause, posted a 3.33 ERA but a 1.45 WHIP in 2010 and was banished from the club for a midseason blowup. He returned to pitch well down the stretch, though, not giving up more than two earned runs over his final 11 starts. Still, we can't help but think Big Z in New York is a disaster waiting to happen. Dec. 15 - 1:23 pm et
That 1.45 WHIP is barely better than AJ's was last year
Glad this Lee thing is over -- time to move on..Heard about Prior - not a bad low risk move..Supposedly he looked good last year in rehab ball. Nabbed Russell Martin too. Not a bad acquisition. Pretty decent 2-way catcher if he's healthy..I think Greinke might be the best bet for us as far as acquiring a starter..KC might be asking for the moon though..
What's the deal with Wood? Is he willing to come back and set up for us? We might have to offer him closer money to set up -- even then, who knows? I'd like to get him back in the fold..
Zambrano is worth getting because the Cubs are not gonna ask a lot because of his contract and he clearly has a lot of upside if his head is on straight. He's not worse a candidate for bounceback than Burnett. In fact the two are probably pretty comporable. Thats a move they should make IMO.
Greinke is tough- I mean this is a guy who has had major depression issues and the Royals have to get a king ransom for him. It just doesn't seem like the right move to make.
Prior is a no lose signing. No risk if he's not healthy or doesn't pitch well. If he finds himself than we win big.
I think we need to start focusing or money on the bullpen. They need more depth and they need setup guys. The Dodgers are about to sign Matt Guerrier whom the Yankees should've been making a big play for IMO.
we should have signed Scott Downs for the pen... dude can throw the ball.

Would've liked him to. We're letting a lot of good relievers go. Jesse Crain just signed with the White Sox. Red Sox are probably gonna get Fuentes. And now it looks like Kerry Wood is going back to the Cubs.
Our entire pitching situation is a mess. Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances are on the way but can't be counted on till 2012 probably.
Sawx just signed Jenks...they are really making impressive and aggressive moves this offseason. Wow.
I heard we were close to signing Pedro Feliciano
Heyman reporting we signed Pedro Feliciano to a 2 yr $8M deal w/a 3rd yr option pending a physical
Kerry Wood goes back to the Cubs for only 1 yr/$1.5 mil? Did he not want to go back to the Yanks at all? I'd have a hard time/believing or understanding how we wouldn't be able to offer him more than that for more years.

that's strange cuz they were talking about Wood the other day on Yankees Hot Stove & said he was looking for at least $6M per over 2 or 3 years & that the Yankees weren't willing to shell out that much for a setup guy... can't believe we didn't offer him at least $4M per to bring him back... maybe he just really wanted to go back to Chicago?

Wow. I really wanted Wood back. It appears he is the second guy to take less money to leave the Yanks. I get Lee but I thought Wood would want to come back.
