Upside: We've got power, we've got surprising starting pitching, and we've got killer relief.
Downside: We've got injuries, we've got slumps, we're leaving 400 men on base, we've got a starting leftfielder and a DH batting .100. The Sandman's old and showing it, somewhat on a more regular basis. Our ace is 2-2.

I don't like losing to the Tigers twice in a row. I'm tired of being the team others use to end their losing streaks.

Very, very cautiously optimistic.

Not good news, but thankfully Joba and Robertson are pitching well..

Rafael Soriano will undergo an MRI Wednesday on his sore right elbow.
We were wondering why he didn't come into Tuesday's game in the eight inning when the Yankees had a two-run lead, and now we know why. The Yankees are saying the MRI is merely precautionary, but it's always notable when an MRI is needed on a pitcher's elbow, particularly when it's concerning an injury-prone pitcher like Soriano. Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson will set up for Mariano Rivera while Soriano is out.

Anyone heard what's going on with Jorge?

Supposedly took himself out of the lineup and according to Cashman will be speaking to the press after the game.

May be calling it quits...

Very bad news...

Joba Chamberlain has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his throwing elbow.
An MRI revealed the damage on Thursday. Chamberlain has already been placed on the disabled list and could need Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery if the problem can't be fixed with a simple rehab process. There's a chance we won't see the 25-year-old right-hander on a major league mound for an entire year.

I have to say this...I don't think this is our year...again. This team just doesn't have the depth - we need at least one more quality SP and we need another bat in the lineup, possibly to replace Swisher full-time and have Swith / Posada duke it out for DH at bats. Unless Cash Money makes some big moves, this team just doesn't have the make up of a champion. Sad but true.

We still have the best run differential of any team in the majors. I do think we'll get a bat for RF- maybe someone like Carlos Beltran. Not sure they are good enough to make a title run but I do think they are still better than what their record shows.

I think the team is about as good as the record shows or maybe a little worse. For 3 of the 5 starting pitchers, you have to be a little nervous about whether they'll continue pitching like they have: AJ, Garcia, and Colon (once he returns).

No one ever posts in this thread anymore!

Jeter should take all the time he needs and then an extra week to return. It's not clear he's an upgrade over Nunez anyway at this point.

The Yanks finally actually beginning to "hit." ARod now at .300- their first player actually at that mark in I think over a month. Robinson Cano seems poised to go on one of those hot streaks soon and get over .300 as well, and Brett Gardner has been absolutely on fire lately. Pitching is tifine- Burnett is just about where he normally is for his career. It was really last year that was the aberration. Nova is doing ok for a rookie, and I think Garcia should continue to be able to give us quality innings. It looks like Hughes and Colon are making progress and hopefully both will be back in a couple of weeks.

He may actually be a downgrade.

His curveball was off last year. He started to throw it less and less. That's his go-to pitch and even if it isn't great any given game, he has to throw it to set-up whatever is working. The Dave Eiland situation certainly did not help last season.

I agree that it was an aberration, due to mechanical and strategic issues not getting properly sorted

For a guy who has kept his life (mostly) private, this should be pretty cool:

HBO will broadcast a documentary about Derek Jeter's pursuit of career hit No. 3,000. Major League Baseball Productions is following the Yankees captain for a one-hour special called "Derek Jeter 3K." The network said Tuesday that Jeter agreed to let camera crews follow him at home and while he was rehabilitating a recent calf injury.

Just an incredible moment. Way to go Jeter!

Let's not sweep the rest of his 5 for 5 day under the rug, including the go ahead single in the bottom of the 8th.

great story about the ball!

Another day, another incredible Yankee moment.

Robbie breaks the record to win the HR Derby title with his dad throwing to him. Just an awesome moment.

Cano belts 32 homers tonight, 12 in the finals. Oh ya, he edged out Adrian Gonzalez in doing it.

Clemons on trail, Dude was washed up, gets roids, starts season 20-1 and 7th cy young.

Uh oh! Mcnamee keeps his needle and cotton incase he threw him under the bus.

Love the Yanks, but Clemmons is toast.

Its not the crime of Roids he is on trail for, its lying to a congress!

I think Congress was right to go after Roids but went about it in all the wrong way and the Mitchell report leaked was wrong.

Giambi, A-Rod, Petit, Knobloch Stanton all said they did it and got passes. A-Rod HOF will be delayed. Bonds and Clemmons lied.

Yanks were house or roids in my opinion. Shefield, Chili Davis, Brocious, Paul O'neil and his "temper", and I believe others had magically prolonged careers or power surge in the house that Ruth built. MLB was rabid with this problem and not just the Yanks but they were the most successful in that era.

And it was fun!

What a nightmare season for Hughes
Bonn1997 @ 7/24/2011 8:44 PM
So who's the Yankees' #2 starter right now?
