If you go to Granderson's profile (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grandcu01.shtml)and click on rdrs, it tells you what defensive runs saved is comprised of, although you'd then have to look at the formula for each of the metrics included in the runs saved metric.

Tex's incredible defense gets pointed out at least once every game. Granted, I'm listening to Johnny Homer and Suzie Suxman call the games, but he makes a big play every game, and you never hear about him flecking anything up. You can talk about overshifts and slumps and pitching matchups and whatever, but I still don't get Jorgie playing first. At all. Tex should be parked there until he's 50.
Cano, on the other hand gets called lazy and makes his share of mistakes on the field. He overcompensates with a gun of an arm. His bat and strength at the plate far outweigh anything he does in the field.

In December 2009, Ian Kennedy went to the Diamondbacks in a three-way trade with the Detroit Tigers and the Yankees, in which Detroit received starting pitcher Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks and outfielder Austin Jackson from the Yankees and New York got center fielder Curtis Granderson from the Tigers.[16]
Now that I see that we got Granderson for him, I don't feel as bad. At least we got something great for him, although I usually would pick a starting pitcher over a position player.
it was either Kennedy or Hughes... the Yanks held their ground and gave up Kennedy. I know Hughes has had a tough year but that appears to be the correct choice.
Career #s
Hughes - WHIP: 1.30, ERA: 4.45, having an alarming season
Kennedy - WHIP: 1.23, ERA: 3.84, improving each year
with the Yankees budget, I would rather keep the guy with top of the rotation potential. Hughes best was pretty effing good. Kennedy is more consistent but isn't a stud. Also, the NL West isn't the AL East. Kennedy's career numbers likely would be better than Hughes if they played in the same division, but not by that much

Who calls Cano lazy? I see him as one of the best defenders in the league.
Would you trade AJ for Zambrano? I know, both have issues, but dumping AJ for a rental on Zambrano makes some sense to me. At least he has pitched well at times this year, unlike AJ...

Again, I'm quoting Sterling and Waldman...I should probably break down and start paying for TV reception again...
Although Cano is currently third in the AL for errors...
Cano took a step back defensively in 2008. Granted, he made some flashy plays on the run, going side to side or charging softly hit balls. He also possesses an above-average arm and features a nifty sidearm flick that helps on the double play. With all his flashes of brilliance, though, Cano still had a hard time fielding simple groundballs. On balls not hit particularly hard, Cano stabs too quickly at the ball or botches the play entirely. He also can seem lackadaisical. As time passes, 2007 is looking more like the exception than the rule.
There's other quotes like this about Cano's fielding, but again, I'm basing my original statement on the keen eye and baseball brain of John Sterling.
That was quite an offensive show!
I can't believe A-Rod's contract goes through 2018!
^I can't believe there were people willing to give him that contract at that time. The only reason the Yankees gave him that contract was so he can capture the HR record as a Yankee. Supposedly they regret that more than anything.
^^^^^^^
As well as to keep from watching him light up Yankee pitching.

I love that Mo' has reverted back to being John Wetteland.
Bases loaded...bottom of the ninth...strikes out the stooge looking...
2nd and 3rd, one run lead, top of the ninth, strikes out the last batter LOOKING...
Now he's going to specialize in boring, repetitive winning outcomes while adding drama!
I hope CC is not wearing down. He's been mediocre in his last 8 starts.
They've said CC's not as effective on extra rest. I don't understand why we can't bring either Colon or Freddie out of the BP for long relief and get back to a normal 5 man rotation. Both those guys have been hurt. CC's a workhorse. You treat him otherwise and he degrades.
MO! MO! MO! Gotta go to MO!
I'm guessing Modell's has already beaten this to death, somewhere.
The greatest reliever in the history of the game.
People might hate us, and hate Johnny Homer Sterling, but life is good as a Yankee fan.
Now if we could just get rid of Waldman...
I am very surprised / impressed by this team's record and the way the have held it together these last few months. Girardi deserves some credit here. I still believe that their pitching may kill them in the playofffs, but their lineup is great and matches up well with Tampa Bay. Boston also has a great lineup, but they have been decimated by injuries to thier offense and their pitching. Their strength at the beginning of the season is now their liability. I'm heading out to the game on Saturday vs. the Sawx and have to say that I was hoping their would be more on the line. That said, playoffs here we come baby!!!!
CLINCHED!
I was pretty skeptical about this team earlier this year and there's still plenty of weaknesses that could get exploited in the playoffs, but fuck it!
Jeter's 3,000th. Mo's 602. Snatched the division away from Boston. I'm feeling some magic this year. Let's go!

That's one possible interpretation but no one really knows if that's what's going on. I remember last year at the end of the season he looked a little less sharp and then after the we find out he needed knee surgery.
And why on earth after we've already clinched a playoff spot do they make him throw 127 pitches?

because we used 8 relievers earlier in the day?

Eh, OK. I was at work all day and forgot there was a double-header. I'd rather jeopardize a reliever's health with extra work than CC's though.
Funny, but the teams putrid record against the Red Sox this year is the difference between the sawx making the playoffs and the yankees perhaps having the best record in all of baseball.
All this with a no. 1 starter who is tired, and no the no. 2 starter not really having that title!
I appreciate the team not panicking to make a deal for a pitcher. We relied on offense and got the job done.
1st place and so far top record in the AL!
My expectation is we run into hot pitching and we going to be toast.
But we are in the playoffs and maybe, just maybe Jorge gets to be the hero one more time!
Dream series of Yankees vs. Phillies would be intense. An all star pitching rotation vs. an All star line up! Who steps up? Phillies bats or the Yankee pitching staff?
Some of you are likely too young to remember but one of the best series I recall was the Astros-Mets in the NLCS which the Mets were the team of destiny but the Astros had a hand of hot pitchers led by Mike Scott and Nolan Ryan. Those two both started their careers with the Mets and were traded to find great success with their new teams. Ryan became a star with the Angels and Scott was having a great season in 86'.
The Buckner miscue and the Red Sawx series was the headliner but for the mets to get there they got taken to seven games and wore out the Mets a bit for Series.
Yanks-Phillies would be a blast, providing of course its a close series!
