Debbie downer? What does that mean? Not breaking out the champagne after playoff losses? It was a reasonably nice regular season that gave some great moments, sure. None of this held up to Yankees standards though. If this was the one year we had to sacrifice to stay under the luxury tax, I'm fine with that though I hope it doesn't happen again. If Boston is going to outspend and outperform us every year, then there's nothing to celebrate.

You're talking about that 4 inning start with 4 walks? It was adequate but it's not what you want from a true ace. You think Verlander would be happy with that pitching line? Severino's best post-season starts would be classified as subpar regular season starts. 3.8 innings per start and a 6.26 ERA is what it is.

Agreed, good feeling gone, and as the wise owl of the board posted some time earlier, this was a nice season, but we ain't as good as Boston.

Who would you have signed that Cashman wasn't willing to sacrafice for?

Severino has ranged from poor to adequate in the postseason. That's basically what you want from a 4 or 5 starter, though the post-season stats don't hold up to a 4 or 5 starter. I didn't say he was doomed. I said I hoped he wasn't. It's super early in his career.

Who would I sign? I'm way too busy with fun hobbies and work to put the time into seriously evaluating roster possibilities. I'm just a fan who doesn't want his team to settle for second best. That's not the Yankees way. Or at least it wasn't.

Let's see what Cashman does this off season to get us over the hump.

Mets are never going to trade with the Yankees, so that's a non-issue.

Through the injuries and slumps, the offense was never consistent enough. So how do you address that? Mo money. We've got a decent core. Flood the lineup with enough big money bats around the Core 4 and hope we can get some more quality free agent pitching. I agree with Bonn. Outspend the BlowSox.

This is the problem with sports fan logic - confirmation and recency bias.

Only could a sports fan conclude that something that happened in 1 the last 10 years is somehow the rule and not the exception.
