That's fantastic. Santana's an awesome guitar player.
nyk4ever @ 1/29/2008 4:27 PM
Wow.

I'm really glad the Yankees stuck to their guns and kept Hughes and Kennedy.

I'm also glad the Red Sox didn't get him.

no brainer trade for the mets.

none of those prospects helped them yet. new stadium in another year. pedro getting older. followed by their collapse last year and a raise in ticket prices.

good trade for them...plus johan in the NL against all those weak hitters should give him better #'s.

wilpon opened up the pocket book and have now officially put the mets expectation levels through the roof. it's now get to the world series or bust.

but damn man, 7 years $140 - they better win a world series within the next 3 years.

as a yankee fan, i'm glad we didn't give up our young pitchers. i've got some world series under my belt. now i'd like to see some of our young guys.

cashman is officially on the hotseat. yanks miss the playoffs next year and he's gone.

EVERYBODY, CLAP JO-HAN...

Exactly.

The Twins GM screwed himself by getting cute and acting like a tough guy. He totally overplayed his hand and turned down better offers from the Yankees and Red Sox. I bet Twins fans can't be too happy with this trade.

Good trade for the Mets. But they better win the World Series soon. They gave up what little they had on the farm and are going all in. Personally I don't think they're even the odds on favorites to win the NL East, the Phillies are right there with them, much less the NLCS.

the Mets didn't give anything up, they still have their best prospect that's one of the best prospects in all of baseball.

First 5 threads on the official Minnesota Twins message board:

FRUSTRATED
I think I'm going to Throw up :(
Smith caved at the end
I am NOT HAPPY with this deal
SMITH DID NOT GET HOSED

The last one was obviously posted by the misterearl of their board and was promptly filled with posts arguing differently.

Yeah, but he's an outfielder. They don't have any pitching depth in their farm system now. You don't think that's giving up anything?

Want to make a bet that sometime in July or August, the Mets are struggling to find arms because of injuries to their starters?

We Still have Pelfrey

Pelfrey??? LOL Good luck with that.

Good deal but omar manaya has a depth and youth problem. He's gotta spend some MORE money.

Right now Pelfrey is our #6 starter. Plus we have a couple near ML ready bullpen guys. I'm not worried.

You said it yourself, Pelfrey (3-8 5.58 ERA) is the Mets insurance when, not if, they need starting pitching help. And they have nothing in the minors.

Pelfrey was brought up very early and didn't get much minor league play. He has shown improvement and had a 4.88ERA for the second half of the year. I know, i know, Kennedy is so much better and more proven, Hughes is going to be better than Santana, and Chamberlain is the next Rivera.

Do you trust Pelfrey to pitch a big game in September or October?

As a Yankee fan, I completely trust Kennedy, Hughes or Joba.

Would you trade Pelfrey for any of those 3 young Yankees pitching prospects? I'm sure all Mets fans would.

Honestly, I wouldn't trade some of the second tier Yankee pitching prospects for Pelfrey.

Pelfrey is still yong. Now he can go back to the minors and work on his mechanics and when he gets the call up again he will be better prepared. I am also hearing that the Mets will now considering signing Livan Hernandez sending El Duque to the bullpen.
