squeeze bunt with 1 out, tied at 2, in the 8th inning in an elimination playoff game?

that was the DUMBEST managerial decision i have ever seen...
Cookdcokehop @ 10/6/2008 11:35 PM
I wasnt watching the game but I must admit that was a dumb decision. He probably will be fired bc they havent done much in the playoffs since they won it in 2002.
Redcru @ 10/6/2008 11:39 PM
YEA BABY....that was one hell of a 9th inning...lots of crazy shit...
GKFv2 @ 10/6/2008 11:39 PM
Caught that. Got disgusted, changed the channel because I knew the Red Sox would win in the bottom of the 9th and am now praying the Rays show up in their series. If they don't, Sox will win the Series once again.

It's called a surprise bunt. No one expects something like that. I remember Bobby Murcer tried it with the Yankees, in the 1981 world series and he popped it up. Ron Cey caught it, and double played another man off first base. It was a disaster and the last chance Murcer had to be a Yankee hero.

Any of you remember, when Murcer first broke in. Many thought he would carry on the legacy of the Yankee great home hitters, following in the foot steps of Mickey Mantle. Never happened.
nyk4ever @ 10/6/2008 11:48 PM
If only Girardi was half the manager that Scoscia is..
4949 @ 10/6/2008 11:57 PM
And screw Mike Scoscia. He was instrumental in beating the Yankees in the 1981 world series and beating the Mets in the 1988 playoffs, and then went onto the 1988 world series championship. He hot dogged it against the Mets, I remember that much. Screw him. He's getting what he deserves. I'm pulling for TB to go through those bastards in baston.

yea, what an idiot move. I find it amazing how against the yankees this clown makes all the right moves, guys like figgens play like superstars, and they are hitting and running at will. Vs the redsox, they can't even field the ball or make routine plays. It is very upsetting. The angels looked old, slow and horrible. Having to watch boston get another easy road to the WS is a joke. When we won those 4 titles in the 90's and 2000, we faced some tough as nails teams, the indians, baltimore, Oakland, even boston back then. right now the sox get to face a bumbling Angels team, a glorified minor league team in 2007( rockies) that got hot and now they face a very young and inexperienced Rays team to get to the WS... go figure.. thanks scoscia, you hack.. LOL.. that play tonight was a joke. I mean did he not have faith in the sac fly?

I think the dodgers will win it all this year. No one expected them to do anything, worst record of all playoff teams, they are primed to win... LOL

it wasn't a dumb decision at all. Eric just didn't get the bunt down. If you think a squeeze is bad in that situation, you must think the squeeze is never a good play.
Pharzeone @ 10/7/2008 2:16 AM
Isn't Scoscia commonly known as the best infield manager in the major leagues. He tried to catch them off guard. Didn't work, it happens.
knicksbabyyeah @ 10/7/2008 5:08 AM
It's not the move itself, it's doing it in the 8th inning in an elimination game

with a left handed hitter up? made no sense in a game as important as that one. maybe at home b/c you have last licks but on the road???

maybe a bunt would have been fine, but not a sucide squeeze. I would have bunted the ball with the runner leaving on contact.

infield in, 1 out - no way i bunt to try to bring the runner in from 3rd. almost guaranteed the run won't score.

and not only did it result in a double play - a high probability, but they took the bat out of the next guy's hands as well. so they blew 2 shots to try to bring the run in.

it was the managerial decision that cost them the series.

even if it worked, it was a low % play and very gutsy. it made no sense to me.

yanks can't get past the angels just like the angels can't get past the redsox...it's all about pressure, expecatations, confidence, and history...

oh, I am agreeing with you, I am just saying if scoscia Felt he had to bunt, I would not have done a squeeze..

go red sox!

Hows that 2 straight years of choking down the stretch working out for you? Your team is a bunch of dogs.

how is it a choke when the team was in first for all of 2 weeks out of the entire season? I think we did pretty well considering how much of a mess our bullpen was with no closer since the beginning of august.
