I'm as big of a Yankee fan as they come. Never wanted Tex. Hope he proves me wrong.
Screw his bat, we finally have a glove at first base. If he hits it's a bonus. (BTW- thanks for taking the joke)
its a good fit. They have a gold glove first baseman and needed that. They have a swtchhitter with power to backup ARod for the next 8 years.
Now they need some good speed to bat 9 and 1
fish is a big fan of switch hitters...
swish/matsui/nady, one of them will probably get dealt (maybe two)...
^^^ haha... nice
Gotta deal Matsui.. so slow, can only DH. Good hitter but this team really needs an infusion of youth and speed, especially at the top and bottom of the order.
Jeter/Tex/ARod/Nady/Posada/Cano is a great 2-6. 7,8,9,1 should be youth, speed and defense. Would like to see Melky back for the D. Damon for another year leading off? OK.. but I would package some of our very good young arms in the the system for an outfielder with speed and an arm.
Don't the Yankees have a decent outfielder or two in the minors? Even the 90's yankee teams had homegrown players mixed with imported vets.

they're still 1-2 years away. maybe gardner or melky can platoon the CF spot...

They have this kid Austin Jackson who they are projecting to be ready for the majors in 2010.

Swisher will be playing some in CF as will Damon is my guess... Joe G really likes Gardner so i think he's gonna be getting some time out there as well.

i don't think that's gonna happen now that we signed Tex instead of Manny... Swisher is making peanuts relative to the rest of this roster & Nady's arbitration eligible... if Nady gets signed to a reasonable deal i think he stays & plays RF, & they'll probably alternate Damon & Swisher in CF & LF w/Gardner as the backup in CF, & Matsui will DH fulltime as he was slotted to from the beginning.

With all that said about my feelings for Tex and how I don't like him at all. I really feel there is something missing with him...
Who bats 3rd, Tex or Arod?
i would bat Tex 3rd cuz he's a switch hitter w/ARod batting cleanup & Matsui batting 5th.
just wanna say, THANK YOU BRIAN CASHMAN! you played this offseason like a freakin' virtuoso.
Tex is good but 170 mil? not sure about that...
I heard the nationals offer was close if not as high, I wonder why he didn't go there?
Not sure how much I like the move. Good move, way overpaid, but whatever..
Hey TMS,
Remember Cashman's speech at the close of the 08 season. Asked if he'd return, he said that he had 'unfinished business'.

"There's unfinished business here and I've chosen to finish that business,"

Anyone know how much over last year they are spending. No Moose, No Giamibi, and no petite I guess its not that bad. 8 ears for Tex is a big number.
We going for Manny now? Our own allstar team!!
No Abreu either. I think going into this offseason we were going to shed 85 mil in deals.
No Pavano also
The Yankees had $88.5 million coming off the books that, even with the Teixeira contract, they expect their payroll to fall below $200 million. New York has committed $423.5 million in salary in the last month, with $161 million going to left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia ($23 million over seven years) and $82.5 million on right-hander A.J. Burnett ($185 million over five).
I'm just glad that we got Tex instead of Manny. I love Manny's bat, but his head is the problem.
LOL, The Yankmes still think they can buy a title, LOL They couldn't buy one the last few years, now they spend even more and they still won't win one, what a joke!. LOL

The Mets thought they could buy Johan Santana and just make the playoffs. What a joke! lol.

putting together the best team on paper is all u can ever expect out of any GM, & Cashman did just that w/these signings... now it's up to the players to execute & pull their end of the bargain... the funny thing is if this team fails to win a championship u'r gonna see certain Yankee "fans" blaming Cashman & Yankees' ownership for spending so highly on FA's this offseason instead of building up w/the youth... some fans are never ever satisfied.
i am loving every bit of hate the Yankees are getting over these signings... the bitterness & jealousy & absolutely palpable... it's up to these players to finish that unfinished business now Rookman... but u gotta give Cashman props for putting this current team together regardless of the outcome of this season.
