Off Topic · Which cell phone provider does everybody use? (page 1)

I currently have Verizon but am getting a new cell phone soon and I'm just shopping around and doing some research. I'm also looking into switching providers. AT&T and Sprint seem to have some good deals and cheaper phones!

What does everybody have and what do you think of the service and all those good things?
djsunyc @ 6/3/2009 1:46 PM
verizon data plan no longer covers extensive video streaming.

i have sprint - no problems and they have a very good data plan.

T-Mobile is cheap as hell. I get 1000 minutes for 39 bucks and you can get unlimited minutes for 49.

I hear bad stories about T-Mobile and their service though. Like it's always tough to talk on T-Mobile phones b/c of bad connections ect.. You don't agree?

Naw, not at all. T-mobile is quality. My girl has Verizon and its rare that she has reception and I dont. Verizon has better penetration, no doubt, but its overrated and certainly doesnt account for the price difference --- unless you are some sort of major executive that stays on the phone, 24/7 T-Mobile is cool.

I have AT&T and haven't really had problems with them for several years (Cingular and AT&T).

Plus right now its the only carrier with the iPhone (awesome for checking UK anywhere you go) - which is a great phone if you don't have a BBerry. Only thing I dont like is the data plan is mandatory - dont really need it since I am on WiFi most of the time.

i have AT&T on a family plan... it's only $10 to add an extra line & we pay about $80 a month for 3 phones & always have roll over minutes left over that get credited for the next month... the service is OK, i do get dropped calls here & there, but it serves my needs well enough i guess... the Mobile TV service sucks tho, don't even bother w/getting it.
Allanfan20 @ 6/3/2009 4:51 PM
I don't even care about TV and Youtube and and stuff like that. It would be nice to check my e-mail and to also check up this message board and sports scores, but I don't need a mobile TV.

I'm actually going to the Verizon Store and the AT&T store right now. I am starting to be attractive to the Blackberry Pearl. I'll let you mofos know.

my friends & i were talking about phones last nite as it happens, they said just wait for the Blackberry Storm 2 to come out for Verizon... supposedly it's sleeker & will be an upgrade over the current Storm.
Allanfan20 @ 6/3/2009 7:01 PM
I heard horror stories about the Storm. I decided to stick with Verizon though. Turns out to be cheaper because I apparently get an employee discount and I don't get it at AT&T. Plus most of my friends and family use Verizon so I can get the plan with the smaller number of minutes. Apparently I don't even come close to 450 minutes a month b/c most people I know already have Verizon. That's a good thing.

I'd consider T-Mobile if it's as cheap as Sebstar says, but everyone I know or knew who has or had it has nothing but bad things to say. I'm staying away.

Thanks for the advise though fellas.

I have the Storm and I haven't had one problem with it.. best phone I've ever had.

Oh and I'm on Verizon
Allanfan20 @ 6/3/2009 8:20 PM
What do you like and dislike about it nyk4ever?
nyk4ever @ 6/3/2009 9:47 PM
Pros
-The touchscreen has worked absolutely perfectly for me.
-The internet browser that comes with it works well, if you don't like it, you can download a different one like opera or something.
-The camera is 3.2megapixels.
-My gmail account is integrated into the phone.
-The facebook application is great for the Storm, huge screen helps.
-Google maps gives you gps if you ever need it. I know your a quaker and all, but hey, it's good to know it's there if you're ever stuck (and thats free)
-Mine came with an 8gb card, which is great becuase the music player is awesome so I've loaded up a ton of music onto it (the music player almost rivals the ipod)

Cons
-Paying 30 bucks a month for data and internet sucks. With the way it works though, I seriously don't mind the payment.
-If you're huge into apps then you might be a disappointed. don't get me wrong, theres alot of apps, but I also have an ipod touch and Apple is light years ahead in the apps department. There are some very good ones for the Storm - just not enough for my liking.

I honestly love the phone, I use it all day while at work, when I'm out at night, when I'm at the bar, whatever... great phone.
Allanfan20 @ 6/3/2009 11:27 PM
I just heard bad things of it crashing all the time and stuff. I don't need the facebook thing because I deleted mine. I do like that camera and the music thing though.

Crashing? I haven't heard that, that's never happened to me.

i may have to start a new thread... I may be looking for a new phone but have always had a simple one. I don't use internet on the phone, but maybe it's just something I am missing and never tried.

Just calling, txting, pics. Everything else seems like overkill for me.

if you just need a basic phone, the lg vx5500 is very good. i just got it a few days ago and it is beautifully designed plus very affordable

edit: though the camera is only vga

I'm with you on that Martin. I actually was thinking of getting a blackberry, but now I decided on getting the LG EnV3. It has like a 3 MP camera, it seems great for texting and it seems to be a decent looking design. You should consider it. It is about $129 though, which is pricey, but it might be worth it at the end of the day. It has good reviews too.
