Thought that Big Pappy (Papi??) was taking something to make him happy, but this is still disappointing.

They should really publish all the names on that list at this point.

how much better does steroids make a player?

even the great mariano rivera couldn't defeat steroids back in 2004...
OasisBU @ 7/30/2009 2:03 PM
I always knew the Sox were juicing

Strength and recovery times are improved. You have to have some kind of talent, already, though.

Easy to see how they helped McGuire, Sosa, and Bonds, though, in terms of the statistical improbability of doing what they did, when they did it.

Where is Curt Schilling? I thought he was the authority on the subject. After he spoke about A-Rod he got sort of mute on Manny and now no press conference or radio broadcast about Ortiz and Manny juicing. His silence speaks volume IMO.
TMS @ 7/30/2009 2:39 PM
Asked about the 2003 drug test on Thursday in Boston, Ortiz shrugged. “I’m not talking about that anymore,” he said. “I have no comment.”

sounds kinda familiar

that's cuz he probably thinks he won those rings all by himself.

I love how ESPN aka capital of Red Sox Nation now don't want to hear about tainted world series. I love how it is now oh well, what done is done attitude. Man what a difference from the A-Rod committed the crime of the century approach they took back in February. Classless from ESPN to now jump on the lawyers from leaking the names when they had little issue with A-Rod's name being leak. The look on Peter Gammons face is priceless.

i told u that would be the reaction... anything anti-Red Sux nation is covered up & swept under the rug like it's no big deal... anything anti-Yankee is blown up to epic proportions... it's their MO.

Big time on Gonzalez.

How do you know that Rivera isn't on something, though?? Or other Yankees?

Nobody is above suspicion. I also recall there being suspicion about Damon when he was on the Sox- but I don't remember the source.

Rodriguez and Clemons are mega-stars. Bonds is the all-time homer king. These guys are going to take the biggest hits when their sh** hits the fan.

Ortiz's name was just revealed, and you figured that Manny was juiced back then too. There will be plenty of articles looking at the legacy of the Sox championship teams given this new info.

I think the Yankees get treated fairly. They are the Uber franchise so its Uber news.

Sox are underdawgs so they are treated better.

Consider the amount of yankees over the years implicated or accused.

That 1998 season where Paul O'neil freaking out on called strikes, Brocius was babe Ruth, Chili Davis was like 50 years old, Darryl Strawberry's return, etc etc its better to just let the dead sleep.

Few years after Aaron Boone recovers from a bad knee and slaps down the Sawx?

They all was doing it. Red Sawx will get theirs. Lowell was always a good player but on the sawx he was amazing! Too bad Nomar didn't juice up, he might have been the man!

If you don't believe Nomar was juicing on that 03 team then you are naive. Forget Ortiz, Nomar has all but disappear from a HOF career after the 03 season. All Mitchell had to do was open his eyes and go into his team's locker room to find out all about steroids instead of spending $20 million dollars

Mariano's velocity & stuff was electric when he was a skinny rookie coming up from the farm system... the guy was throwing in the mid-upper 90's when he was throwing a lot more 4 seamers... when he went over to the cutter his velocity dipped to the mid-low 90s but he became more dominant than ever... his body has not largely changed ever since & his success is predicated on the movement of his pitches not on his blowing away guys w/his sheer velocity.

Agreed completely... and the best part of reflecting upon the Yankees dynasty is the only two superstars in baseball I have no doubt were clean were Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. Mo does one thing well (and he's amazing at that) and the Jeter haters always bashed his lack of power. Everyone else I can think of I have my suspicions, even on the Yankees (the haters said the same thing about Paul O'Neill but he would beat the life out of the Gatorade coolers).
TMS @ 8/8/2009 11:36 AM
Ortiz press conference is about to kick off in an hour to address the roid questions... funny enough MLB & the players' union decides to come out w/some statement today to sorta defend the guilt of Ortiz & Manny & raise some issues about some of the test results being challenged by MLB & warning fans not to rush to instant judgement on some of these names that are being leaked... i'm wondering where was this support for ARod by MLB & the Players' Union when his name was leaked?
djsunyc @ 8/8/2009 12:34 PM
tms - it's disgusting how mlb and the union come out right before the press conference totally defending ortiz...and now he is denying steroids. classic.
TMS @ 8/8/2009 12:35 PM
so according to Ortiz he's blaming it on careless use of over the counter supplements, but he denies ever taking steroids or even being aware that he'd tested positive until this past Thursday.
