Knicks · OT: Rick Adelman Is Free (page 1)

Rockets and Adelman part ways. I'm not too into him as coach because he goes in and out of playing young players.
simrud @ 4/19/2011 1:02 AM
he is not any better than mda - a lateral move, no thanks
AnubisADL @ 4/19/2011 8:27 AM
We NEED this man. Rick Adelman is not Mike D'Antoni.

Adelman will have this team running half court sets and killing teams next year.

Solace @ 4/19/2011 8:34 AM
Do we need another coach that fans are going to give up on no matter what happens? I like Adelman, but I'll pass. The moment we get him, people will start longing for MDA.
Nalod @ 4/19/2011 8:42 AM

Rick is a nice guy and a good coach.

he'd be perfect for the Hawks job.

I think people forget what he did in Houston with a2 often injured stars.

The guy gets results unlike D'Antoni. No one can tell me Houston had a great team the last few years.

s3231 @ 4/19/2011 9:41 AM
Lateral move at best, makes no sense.

D'Antoni is a top coach in this league. Anyone that says he can't coach D should rewatch game 1 against Boston, was a good defensive plan.

Allanfan20 @ 4/19/2011 11:18 AM
There's no way Rick Adelman is so superior to Mike D'Antoni that we'd win more than an extra 3 games this season and I don't think he is better. There would be no purpose of making this move. You either fire MDA because you have someone superior on the line that's willing to coach, like maybe Jerry Sloan, or someone who can coach a contender and deal with superstars, like Doc Rivers (WHo can also lead a defensively minded team.)

This would be just another hype move or an exuse to get rid of MDA, when Rick really isn't too much better if at all.

islesfan @ 4/19/2011 11:52 AM
Adelman would have had the Knicks defending that alley-oop to Garnett and he would have had a play ready to run at the end of the game.
nixluva @ 4/19/2011 12:00 PM
The only problem Mike has is that he doesn't have any rebounders. You give this man some rebounders that can play well enough to warrant staying on the floor on offense too and we win many of the games we lost this year. I'm 100% confident that Donnie will find us a C that can get it done on the boards.

The next most important thing is upgrading the PG spot and hopefully more help at SG. I think Fields will get better tho, so all is not lost. We have to remember that he is still a rookie. Better players have a way of making most coaches look great.

Or he would have done what every other coach in the world would have done, including himself, and that's put the ball in the hands of perhaps the best scorer in the league. I'm pretty sure that's what happened, and a play wasn't actually needed to be called. In fact, there were no time outs. What occured was fine.

This is what I like about Adelman in that he can get his teams to perform under adversity but he does not coach a good defense(they play hard but still give up pts at an alarming rate) by any stretch and he's very stubborn as to who gets into his circle of trust.

At the end of the day give me Sloan over Adelman 10000000000000 times out of 1

Allanfan20 @ 4/19/2011 12:11 PM
And call a play??? LOL. OK, the ball was already in Carmello Anthonys hands to begin with but lets just say it wasn't... which it was. You can attempt to trick the Celtics into thinking the ball WONT go into Melos hands or Amare's or outsmart their defense, which probably wont happen. In fact, they will probably cover both of them so hard that you are forced to make someone else take the shot. Is that what you want? I mean TD can hit a clutch shot but Anthony does it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Or just not have to expend so much into putting the ball into Anthony's hands because he already has it, after all.... and just let him do what he does best and probably better than anyone in the league. Score.

He missed a clutch shot for once. He'll probably hit it tonight and you'll be singing MDAs praises for allowing Melo to take that shot.

Why is it the context in which we talk about results in favor of player and or coach over another it's turned into last possession outcome?

Can we please have context that suggest we won't have to be in a position where everything falls on the last possession and/or refs

I'm so tired of the mantra...."WE HAVE MELO AND WHEN THE GAME COMES DOWN TO THE FINAL PLAY WHO BETTER TO HAVE THE BALL IN THEIR HANDS"

No let's do what the Hornets/Hawks did at least for 1 game on the road and make it very apparent game is in hand regardless of final possession

this is the guy i want!!!!!!!!

he balances offense with defense! not like MDA.

im scared to get a defensive coach because STAT might not listen to him( look at th suns) when they hired terry porter

teams had nearly identical Offensive and Defensive Efficiency stats.

AnubisADL @ 4/19/2011 12:50 PM
Rick Adelman has had success with multiple franchises. This guy is right behind Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich.

Thanks goodness I started out saying I'm wishy washy on him and cited him for his poor defensive focus-implementation, you were bound to come into this thread with such link

Would you want George Karl if he were free regardless if we had Melo or not?

unstopaball12 @ 4/19/2011 1:21 PM
compare the talent he has to what we have. There team faces powerhouse like the sprus, lakers, mavs and thunder 4 times a year compared to us. The kings havent made the playoffs since he has left. and most importantly he ADJUSTS to the situation, not like Mike to continues to play people off position.

This guy will get everything out of our players!

JrZyHuStLa @ 4/19/2011 1:27 PM
Rick Adelman doesn't care about shots falling in more than defense.
