Knicks · Do we throw away next season Just to wait for CP3?? Or do what we must do now and have no money for CP or D Williams?? (page 1)

Papabear @ 4/23/2011 9:53 AM
Papabear Says

Either we spend the money now waive Billups and get a Center , point guard and fillers on defense now. Or Blow next season doing patch up work and making Amare work that much harder and watch him break down. I know about the CP3 deal at the wedding but Melo was ready to sign his extention with the Nets or Denver if we didn't give away our whole team.Either CP3 force a trade to come to us and we give up everything except Amare and Melo and I don't think that good enough.

babyKnicks @ 4/23/2011 10:05 AM
Can any of our capologists find two bodies in this list sand not impact ability to get cp3?

Carlos aroyo, nene kristic, jeff foster, Tyson Chandler, Carl Landry, Jason Richardson.

Jason Richardson and Tyson Chandler is worth waiting for Rubio.

Billups isn't signing for less and not worth 14 mill.

If Donnie can find a way to make this team really solid while keeping flexibility, Im all for that. But there is NO WAY we should lose another year to wait for another star if we can really improve the team now. We have Stat and Melo in their prime now. We need to give them a solid supporting cast now!

You don't throw away anything when you have 2 all stars.
GustavBahler @ 4/23/2011 10:44 AM
An All-Star PG would be nice but at this point I'd be happy with just a competent, reliable one who can play on both ends of the court. Can't think of anyone out there who fits the bill right now who they can get.
Moonangie @ 4/23/2011 10:50 AM
We did the starphuck already. These guys can win now with some solid help. But it all depend on the specific players. Waiting a year to sign CP3 is probably the only way we land him, since we have not much left to trade. If he tries to force his way to us, does Billups' deal with the rest of our scrubs get it done? I am not sure that would give us time to field a solid playoff team next season. Oh the details, the details.
crzymdups @ 4/23/2011 11:18 AM
I really don't like the idea of waiting around for the CHANCE to sign CP3 or Deron or even Dwight. I think we have enough star power... we need to try to find some young guys who can develop into corner stones for the team. This team needs its Rondo and KPerkins - young guys who grow into important players.
Vmart @ 4/23/2011 11:21 AM
You don't throw anything away. Make some moves and solidify the center position draft a pg and groom him behind Billups and basically scrap the CP3, Deron Williams idea.

for me it's not so much as waiting for the chance at those guys so much as what better options are there to spend money on that really qualifies as building a championship contender?

The Knicks need PG and C. Realistically, at C you have Tyson Chandler and Nene out there (and then scrubs after that). Chandler ain't going anywhere and unless Denver collapses and Nene decides he doesn't like his family being out there (I think I recall his wife being pregnant and really liking area, I could be wrong on that), who else do you target that's worth spending money? All the other worthwhile C's are RFA.

I don't see any PGs out there that you would forgo Billups and sign for major money.

So, if you buy out Billups, all you are left with are dudes in the $3-7M range and whose quality matches that - guys who have MAJOR flaws in their games.

I don't understand the logic that says, I can't wait 1 more year for the perfect fit guy in CP3/DWilliams or even Dwight Howard - and any of those guys would solidify 5-8 years of legitimately competing for EC - because of impatience.

It's the old, you can have 1 candy now or 100 pieces of candy tomorrow if you wait.

Someone help me understand who are the guys that are worth it this year that the Knicks should go all in with?

Ideally I'd like the following lineup next year.

Varejao
Amare
Melo
Mayo
Sessions

We'd have a nice young core.

I would wait. It's clear that any of the other options have are not going to make us a championship contender.

I'd love to get Varejao but how does it happen? I can't imagine Cleveland trading him for anyone on our roster or without getting picks back.

If Dwight Howard was a real possibility, since the indications he has given is that he doesn't consider NY a possible landing spot, THEN I'm all for waiting. But its not probable and longterm we might be better of with a combination of Sessions/D. Jordan or something similar because since we need so many pieces, we may be better of spreading the wealth we have now that we have Melo and Stat.

True. I am hoping that Atlanta beats the snot out of Orlando and further agitates Howard, and then I hope Richard Jefferson leaves team. That would annoy him to all hell and increase every other teams chances.

Trade Expirings, 17th pick, Fields, and/or Douglas.

Memphis was willing to trade OJ Mayo for Josh McRoberts and the Pacers 2011 pick.

^ awesome, that gets you Mayo. How do you come up with anything for Cleveland for a starting C and PG?

martin wrote:^ awesome, that gets you Mayo. How do you come up with anything for Cleveland for a starting C and PG?

Cleveland is in Rebuild mode.

Varejao is owed almost 36 million and he is 29 yrs old. Ryan Hollins and some other D League scrub is a cheaper option for them at this point.

Im thinking:

Billups, Douglas, maybe a 2nd rounder for Varejao, Gibson, Sessions. Cleveland would still have Davis and their D league scrubs plus whoever they draft.

Why in the hell would Cleveland make that deal? They would be crazy to do that, it's not even close to equal value.

so you think CLE is willing to give away a decent starting center and a better backup PG in Session so that they can pay $30M for 2 PGs in Billups and Baron?

I know they are rebuilding but that doesn't mean you give away a decent C who is relatively cheap by all comparisons.

Varejao is owed about $25M with a team option 4th year. $8M per is good value, and you just don't trade it for expirings.
