Knicks · Who Would You Take With The 17th Pick? (page 3)
Olbrannon@ 5/30/2011 8:27 PM
I voted Singleton. I really feel he will not be there for 17. Iman Schumpert is an awesome pick and would be my next choice. I'd also have to look real hard at Jeremy Tyler and some of the other center prospects and Marshon Brooks. Failing any of these and maybe even if... I still would consider trading this pick for Mozgov. 'Specially if I can't get what I want
CrushAlot@ 5/30/2011 8:45 PM
Draftnet updated its mock yesterday and has the Knicks taking Singleton. I think that would be a good pick. They also have Cleveland taking Williams over Irving.

He's definitely a half court weapon though, and would fit in well with our current group of players (though not with D'Antoni's preferred style).
Do we pair him with Douglas to cover his defensive liabilities? That might work...
I wish we had more than one pick, we need to get more players on undervalued contracts to compete.
I'm going the "Trust in Donnie" route. In such a guard filled draft, he has to come away with a least one PG. Also, because of our need for height, he has to draft a big, which means buying or trading for pick(s). Anything less is unacceptable.
I've come to the realization that my knowledge ofcollege talent is limited, and I must defer to the greater minds in these situations.

1. Marshon Brooks 2. Jujuan Johnson 3. Darius Morris
I respect your opinion Briggs but these guys should be available after 17... why would you burn a high pick on them? Marshon 19, Johnson 31, Morris 23.
I guess Marshon isn't that much of a reach at 19.... but he doesn't fill a need (I think Landry is fine at SG actually)

Markieff Morris - gone baby gone Tristan Thompson - too Channing Frye and too 6'9 Kenneth Faried - too short and skill set too specific Tobias Harris - another redundant skill set, we have a guy named Carmelo Chris Singleton - wish he was 6'11 and not 6'9, we have enough 6'9 guys Josh Selby - nope, "For a potential PG, his game management isn’t the best" Jimmer Fredette - no thank you Reggie Jackson - only if he can play in October Trey Thompkins - maybe
Darius Morris - YES, the Knicks need another playmaker, with emphasis on the "maker" part of the word.
Jimmer Freddete had some nice nba measurements with sweet jumper to match. Not sure how you dismiss him and prop up Darius Morris.

Agreed. People seem to sweat measurements, and I just don't get it. Fredette is a winner now and will continue to be in the NBA.
He WILL be gone by 17. I'm sticking to my original pick, Faried. I think he is going to be a great NBA player. But I have taking a liking to Singleton as well. He can play here, and be traded for a better center eventually.

Fredette has a specialized skill set. Cool. If his shot is off, what is the next best thing that he brings?
Defense? Nope.
Assists? Maybe
Steals? No.
Marketing? Yes.
Rebounding? Not in this "grown man's" league.
Repeat after me... (say it slowly) triple.... double.
THAT is why you jump at Darius Morris.

After Fredette's measurements came out - I think I would pick him if available over Faried at 17. I think he has the kind of head on his shoulders that 1. MDA will actually play him & 2. he might actually explode.
Of course, where is Adam Morrison!
misterearl@ 5/31/2011 12:23 PM
franco12 - head on his shouders?
C'mon man! The Knicks do NOT need another shooter.
Distribution. Floor management. Leadership. and insurance against Chauncey Billups' 73 year old knees.
Long live the BBC.
Ira@ 5/31/2011 6:20 PM
My first choice is Nikola Vucevic, because he's a center with a fairly well-rounded game. If he's not available, I'd pick Darius Morris, because we need a young player who can run the offense. If those two are gone, its between Faried and Brooks.

If those two are gone I think you take a chance on a sleeper like Shumpert or Josh Selby. Shumpert has an NBA body - one ready to compete with guards such as Rose, Westbrook. His only downfall is his shooting percentage. IMO, this is also a double double or triple double kid. I think Selby is a step above TD so I would take him and trade TD.

franco12 wrote:With Melo and Stat- it be great to have a PG that can set them up, but honest, their talents should be enough to score on their own. We should be able to get by with a PG by committee - Toney Douglas as a kind of Charlie Ward/Chris Childs.
Where we get killed is on the boards. I don't care if Faried is undersized as long as he has the motor and heart to grab boards. Because we really don't have anyone that has that hunger.
They've proven they can't create their own shots. Well not efficiently anyway. They both have horrible shot selection and desperately need a point that can get us some easy points and get good ball movement leading to open shots.

Here a video scouting report on Singleton. His defense is impressive but his offense game isn't close to being NBA ready. HE might have to start out at power forward while the rest of his game catches up. http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Chri...

The more I hear about this kid the more I keep thinking, 6-11, lanky, no offensive game, versatile defenders to skinny to play center, natural position small forward, all I wanna know is why are we drafting Jared Jefferies again?

oops. Didn't realize that. So we want a smaller Jared Jefferies then?

He's gonna be a good player. He's an actual basketball player, he's not Jared Jeffries. He's gonna be lockdown, he grabs boards, and he's developing a jumper. PLus hes athletic.

Honestly speaking I know about 4-5 players in this draft. This years draft is going to be a major crap shoot.
joec32033@ 6/2/2011 10:35 AM
I will take your word for it then. He just seems to play no other rolkson out of my head.e then "defender" at a twiner position. Getting a defender just to get a defender seems inefficient to me. Personally I am really warming up to grabbing the tough Morris twin and buying a later pick. For some reason I just can't seem to shake Reggie Jackson out of my head as the smart pick.
