Knicks · A moment of Sobriety on Darius Morris (page 5)

This dude isnt even a 1st round pick on Chad Ford's or DraftExpress's.

Dude is probably getting exposed in workouts.

I buy that 2nd round pick off Miami and send them Douglas though. Someone good is going to slide into that 2nd round for sure.

I wouldn't do a deal with Miami, and I surely wouldn't send TD to them. Becareful what you wish for, it might come backto bite you in the ass.

TD is almost exactly what they need. They need an actual PG who is a playmaker, but TD can bang those 3's and he aint scared. They could certainly use him. But I wouldn't do it.

There won't be any deals between these franchises now for the next few years. It's officially on between us the Bulls and Heat. All 3 teams represent the top of the East going forward IMO.

Video breakdown of Darius Morris for anyone who's interested. You can definitely see where the Andre Miller comparison come from. The kid knows how to use his length and body to shield away defenders and draw fouls.

Love his floor generalship. His head is up and he's patient. Sometimes not having freak athletic ability can be a blessing. He sticks to what he can do. Man I really like some of the things he does in setting up teammates. If I could merge his passing with Shumpert's athletic ability...

He's so big as a PG and he knows how to get off inside. He's got a deceptive 1st step and since he's so big he doesn't need to blow by his opponent, just get him on his hip and he can get to the hoop. He's just a solid player IMO. A guy like him can play forever in the NBA, cuz his game isn't predicated on athletic ability. I still like him for the Knicks as a pure PG with great size. The way he whips the ball around, you could just see him being successful in a situation like NY with scorers all over the place. He'd be a low cost solution and no real risk.

Typically I abhor drafting for need (because let's face it--we have PLENTY of needs), however, considering the star power/scoring options we have, and what Morris' strengths are, I could see him blossoming here. I don't think he'd be a good fit on every team in the L, but here? Absolutely

if he can do that in thenba and thats a big if. i dont think he can which is why i dont want him. numbers are cool but when u see him play and get down by the paint with a small guard on his hip and shoot over him, its gotta concern u. how will he do that with a joakim noah or joel anthony lurking the pg? worse yet can he do that with rose, wall, deron on his hip? theyll be playing us 12 times a year. i dont think so. he cant shoot! can he guard them? no. idont want morris.

Not putting in a vote for or against Morris but Rondo can't shoot either

It's a concern, but the way we play using the PnR and spread offense so much, the PG doesn't have to be blazingly quick!!! Duhon wasn't quick, CB isn't quick. You just need to know how to use picks and to play at a fast enough pace to force the defense to stay on it's heals. This is the trick of success in the NBA. Bird was one of those guys that played at perfect pace. You can use change of speed and direction to gain an advantage even when you aren't the quickest player.

Besides Morris hasn't had MDA working with him. He'll help teach him how to fully exploit a defense along with CB. Also Morris would be able to post smaller PG's which is a plus when you have great court vision and a QB arm at PG. MOST of what a PG does has nothing to do with freak athletic ability. Morris seems to have all of those other things in enough quantity to be successful. Besides the Jumper is often the last thing many guards develop. CP3 and Rose both got WAY better than they started off being.

"Vucevic's Knicks workout yesterday was solid, but the Knicks also were impressed with Michigan point guard Darius Morris, who has risen on their draft board. Morris outplayed Kansas guard Josh Selby, who is being viewed by the Knicks staff as too big a risk at 17."

Yeah - this made my morning. I'd be thrilled with Darius Morris. I'd be very happy with Vucevic.

Long Live The BBC

crzymdups - Vucevic is big and that's cool... but Darius Morris has a unique quality that is essential to TEAM building. "He makes those around him better."

Our beloved Knicks have two star players who desperately need another LEAD player who understands the angles and who can manage a game in the fourth quarter.

Imagine 6'6 Darius Morris and 6'7 Landry Fields developing chemistry... and presenting matchup nightmares for opposing shrimpy defenders. Fields, as we know, moves off the ball like John Havlicek. Darius gives Fields a wink, hits him in stride and the rest is history.

"Give me Darius Morris or give me death."

TheGame @ 6/21/2011 10:31 AM
The primary plus of getting Morris is that it allows you to play T. Douglas exclusively at SG. Morris is big enough to guard SGs (and he actually might be more effective guarding SG). You can have Douglas guard the PG and Morris and Douglas can play at the same time. This will allow Douglas to focus on the two things he is good at: defense and scoring. Draft Morris and take the ball out of Douglas's hands and let him split minutes with Fields at SG.

I'm with you Earl. Darius is the best (purest) pg of the bunch. he has great size to over the d, great vision and post game in the paint ala Action Jackson. I'd like for the Knicks to buy an additional pick to snag Morris, but Not Chi's pick because that might be too low.

Would be happy with either one. No to Marshon Brooks. Would love Norris Cole in the 2nd if we can buy a pick.

At 17, Im not sure of picking Darius Morris because talent in the top 15 can fall and even if they don't, we may be better off picking Vucevic and buying another pick to maybe get Morris or any other guard help.
misterearl @ 6/21/2011 11:33 AM
Knicksfan - a while back I read an interesting statistic on the limited number of NBA players selected after the lottery level who actually turn into legit NBA contributors. The list is not not that long and the stats on second round picks who succeed is astonishingly small.

The talent in the first round is not at the bottom and the second round is the biggest crapshot of all.

There is a reason Landry Fields was such a shock.

It goes like this:

First round 1-15, college guys who can play basketball

First round 15 and over - college guys who can play basketball who have some flaw to their game

Second round 1-15 - college guys who can play basketball who have a significant flaw

Rest of Second round - college guys who would not get picked at The Rucker for a full court game
