Putting up offensive numbers has never been a problem under MDA. Regular season wins are easy to come by. But timely buckets that win big games have not been there. Defense has been non existent. Getting swept out of the playoffs last year was a clear indictment of his inability to coach and motivate at a higher level when the other team is playing hard, smart and with hunger. People who are stat lovers love MDA. People who respect winning know he's way, way overrated and not a championship caliber coach.
Don't all internet forums that discuss sports teams want to fire the coach thinking some unknown mystic being will do better?
Goals? To see an offense that goes beyond scrambling to the 3 point line to launch shots like a Palestinian rocket team. To see rotation on defense worthy of a HS team. That (among other things)would have been a nice start.

Exactly...the damn coach has never had the same roster for more the 3 months...I'm not sure what fans expect from a revolving roster..miracles I guess..
growth of Will Chandler, Fields, Gallo not too bad.
What were your expectations of MDA within that time period given the circumstances?

How about playing the lottery pick and other first round pick on a 26 win team that was stocked with marginal vets that had expiring contracts? How about having a team come out of training camp prepared for the season? How about using scouting to prepare for oponents the first two years in ny? How about practicing a bit more? How about running an offense that vets don't criticize as not having plays? How about giving one of the many big guys that your gm brought in a chance to play and get in a rythm before you banish them to the bench? You generally respond to me with questions and then say I don't answer them. I haven't been able to figure out the reasons that these things have happened so I would love to be enlightened.

dude, we have been through all of this too many times, you just don't want to reason and are stuck on hating MDA. not wasting more time. use that thought process of yours.
I really wish that more Knick fans could read thru SSOL playbook and see just how much is in there that we haven't used! Mike has so much knowledge that there's no way he won't be able to come up with an offensive scheme for this group. It strikes me a bit odd that people don't reflect on his ability to get a lot of offense out of just about any group he's had here.
The defense issue took a big step in the right direction with the addition of Tyson. It's the single biggest issue this team has had since MDA got here. Now we also have more defensive minded role players that will be more effective with Tyson in there. Fields, Iman, TD, Jared and Shawne, if we resign him, can all defend. Having more help and focus with Woodson on board will also help. IMO this team is gonna be better defensively.
When his PHX teams were a middle of the league defensive team with no Center they won 60 games. This team has more size and defensively capable role players. This should be a top team in the East.
Well well. It has come to this again. The beginning of a season and the calls for MDA's head. Sorry to disappoint, but he will be here this year. I say that because we actually have good defensive players now, so he will be given the benefit o f a doubt this year. Granted, we don't have a PG and that will surely be used as an excuse. We will still have garbage plays coming out of timeouts, but we'll also win more games this year so the jury will still be out, as expected.

Yea, but only we do it like there is no tomorrow.
Here we go again. SSDT - Same Sh*t Different Thread.

I think his training camps are a waste of time. His teams are 10-20 out of training camp for the first ten games every season he has been in ny. That record is also before the Randolph and Crawford trades. Dude sucks butt.

Three years into his tenure do you think it is relevant? I care about the Knicks not the Suns. What about his record with the Nuggets do you count that?

just for kicks, let's revisit d'antoni's starting lineups on opening night over the years:
2008-9 - duhon/crawford/qrich/zbo/jeffries?
2009-10 - duhon/qrich???/gallinari/wilson/dlee
2010-11 - felton/fields/gallinari/wilson/amare
2011-12 - toney/fields/melo/amare/tyson
he's had ZERO consistency whatsoever. i don't think he's the best coach ever, but he's really had no continuity from year to year.

My biggest issue with D'Antoni is how he handled 09-10. He had his team form 11/22/08 on basically. He added Darko, Toney, Jordan and Marcus Landry. His team came out of training camp and went 1-9. He had a lot of success with the mvp at the point the runner up mvp at small forward and a top 3 power forward in phoenix but that doesn't mean he is a good coach. In my opinion if you coach a team for 65 plus games the previous season and don't integrate any new players into the line up the following season you shouldn't come out of the gate 1-9. Your guys should be fired up and coached up. 1-9?
I can tell you one thing, MDA is likely ecstatic about the deal for Tyson. For one thing as great as CP3 is and how great it would be to have a great PG, the team would be gutted and that would mean all expectation but no depth or continuity. With this deal he still has key players from last year and with such a short camp and only 2 preseason games, it's so important to have a team that isn't complete strangers or starting from scratch. I'm positive that MDA is relieved with how things turned out.
I could care less about the previous seasons. What I do know is that this is a team that a coach can win with. Too bad we don't have a normal preseason, but it could've been much worse. This team with CP3 would've been an even worse defensive team than before. Now all those that have been hoping and wishing to see defense and a slightly slower pace will get their wish. That is the way this team is made and MDA clearly is going with the make up of the roster. This shouldn't surprise those who pay attention cuz he did change things up before when it was necessary. I think this is going to be a very interesting season and hopefully a very successful season.

meh. everyone on that team knew they were dog meat for the cap clearing 2010 summer of lebron. i'm not convinced.
d'antoni has never had a win now squad in NY until RIGHT NOW. that counts for a lot. if he fails now, he's done. but this is the chance he's earned for three years of moving deck chairs around. this is it.
(he probably won't be here to start the next season. so it goes.)

I never liked D'Antoni as a Knick coach. Thibs, Woodson - defense first. D'Antoni didn't even think about it.
I say fire 'im!
